What a Surprise! I'm Starting IUI

A/f started Sat 13 Jan so I thought ... I wonder if I would be able to start IUI? Due to my back injury I am part-time on medical grounds so was 100% convinced my Manager would either not be happy but agree or say no as I am just part-time. As I have first blood test on 23rd Feb and I am back f/t that week she was ok about though.

Day 1 begin Day 1 of A/f (13th Jan) my Protocol is:

Day 19: I start Norethisterone Tablet (31st Jan)
Day 21: I start sniffing Buserelin Spray and carry on til they say stop (2nd Feb)
Day 42: (Day 22 of Sniffing) I have a blood test to see if am ready to start the Gonadotrophin Injections. If blood test ok DH has to come with me to show that he is able to inject as it has to be done in left and right bum check (alternately).
Usually Gonadotrophin Injections are done for 10-15 days according to scans & blood tests but do vary. Blood tests and scans are done usually on Mondays, Tuesday and Fridays at 8am.
When scans and blood tests show that eggs are mature, have first injection of hCG. Eggs releases 38hrs after hCG injection.
If it is after first hCG injection is done that I stop Buserelin spray. The sperm is prepared private clinic 2 days later and insem done on same day.

I am very happy to start IUI. With the last long weeks since back injury with lots of sadness elsewhere etc etc I didn't think I would actually be starting in January 07. But my back and foot - thanks to Osteopathy - is moving in right way so all is good to go.

Great news Lorraine, good luck.

I must say I hated giving Jo the injections, I have no problems with needles being stuck in me, but actually doing the injection freaked me out.

Although the injecting cycle isn't pleasant you may find that it does at least give you a feeling of actually being in control for once. We are actually doing something tangible to help for a change, rather than just feeling helpless on this rollercoaster.

RE: What a Surprise! I'm Starting IUI

D/regging symptoms are bloody terrible. I've got used to the hot flushes ... almost welcome them as I feel the cold. Don't sneeze now when I sniff. Headaches are few. But the mood swings is the worst. The last week I've had the period as well and period symptoms do not combine at all with d/r symptoms. I'm trying to not be moody and a complete cow but I know I am. Poor DH.

First blood test for IUI is on Friday 23rd Feb. If levels of oestrogen are low enough we have to go back that day to show them that DH can do the injections. He's practicised a few times and is very happy to do it! Rather too happy (still thinks he will slap bum to numb it lmao).

lorraine sorry i missed this until now things have been hectic with the move, but just wanted to say i am so pleased for you that things are happening now. keeping everything crossed, injecting ain't that bad- i liked the thought i was taking steps towards pg when i did it.

when we moved house i found the sharps disposal box at the back of the kitchen cupboard- even though i never got that bfp it made me smile, thinking about how it played a part in my journey to where i am now.

Yes!!! Levels of Oestrogen were low enough so Mr Cahill ok'd me to start the Menogon Injections. Steve demonstrated the first one today in my bum in a calm and patient manner (so nurse said) so she was very happy that he would do it correctly. Next Blood Test: Friday 2nd March 2007 at 8am

Rather tired now as was up at 5.30am; train at 6.43am and at hospital at 7.30am so read my book. First spray of day at 8am and first blood test. Nurse said she would ring me with results so at 12.20pm I thought "great results already". She said there was a slight problem as the bloods had gone on walkabout and didn't arrive until 11am so that would delay the result but could we come anyway as she and the Cons were fairly confident that my levels would be low enough to start Menogon. Said to get there by 3.45pm. So we left just gone 3pm and the nurse rang en route to say levels were low enough and that we could indeed start injections. I only then told Steve what had happened as I had every intention of whinging that it was hospital's fault if we got there and result showed not low enough. He didn't really take it in anyway as he was nervous about the first injection. But he was very good and took it steady. Well done sweetheart . Oh yeah and I did have a quick glance at notes and she had put on there avoid triplet pregnancy (because of thyroid condition that will make me tired when pg was warned to not risk a multiple pregnancy but maybe that means that they will chance twins).

They didn't say. Just said blood test next Friday (2/3/07) at 8am. Maybe it depends on the result of that? Anyway very happy to be on the next stage. We did get rather excited on way home. Partly coz DH did so well on injections (I know it isn't too bad but this is a man who hates needles and blood so he did fantastic) and partly coz we realise we are one step nearer to hopefully getting our dream.

Good luck for Friday Lorraine, Jo and I (well Jo actually as I am working) have an 8am appointment at St Michaels on Friday 02/03. Our appointment is for the 1st blood test and then if all the levels are good then we should start injecting later that day. Jo has been down-regging for the last couple of weeks and she has been experiencing hot flushes etc etc. I am not too sure about the mood swings as I have been on my best behaviour, lol.

I really didn't like injecting Jo on our last cycle, but I have decided that on this cycle I am going to be less of a whinger and get on with it, after all I have the easy job. I suppose I better start practising on that apple/pear again to re-learn the technique.

I'll see Jo there then (though I don't know what she looks like!). Tell her I'll be there one looking half asleep ;(. I am not keen on d/regging. The symptoms are strange. I feel for anyone going through the menopause. Steve said my bum is much easier to penetrate than a pear!!!! He was bit more nervous doing last night on his own than he was with the nurse. But he's doing brilliant.

Hiya,

feels a bit strange posting here as have been a clomid chick for a few years. I've just finished a stint on norestithone to induce a bleed. When it happens ( although more like if! as ov but no bleed or pg has been the problem) have to take letrizole then injections of puregon. Am really wondering if anyone can help me understand whta to expect? Do any of these have the side efects of clomid? How many cycles of iui do people normally have? Why have the hosp pharmacy only given me one vial of puregon when I might need 5? They also mentioned that it comes in different strengths? Why's that? Asked lots of qus when saw cons but forgot these!

Sorry to be a pain.

Blood test results showed slow to progress (for what they expected) so got to double up to 2 powders to 1 water. Bit disappointed but as a good friend pointed out by text (thank you!) better to build up slowly than overstim. But despite waiting until 9.30am for pharmacy to open to get more drugs I now don't have enough so have to go back again on Monday morning. Can't do much about it really. Boss was ok about it. Just hope this is a hiccup rather than a sign of the times.

Nice to see Stidd's partner there though when she came out. All the best you two!
