Aspirin

Quick question ladies ....

I started taking 75mg Asprin from the start of stimms as there is some evidence that it helps with your womb lining ... I know quite a few girls on here did/do the same, and quite a lot of clinics recommend it.

My question is ... when do you stop taking it?

Cheers girls

just a thought....yes i have them

you know the way aspirin is supposed to thin the blood ?( would that make bleeding worse ?( just a thought....am also on it btw...although dr didnt seem to advise either way....she was very helpful told me to ask consultant  so will be interested to hear the replies to this....

quick question also:

why does sanatogen pro-natal have more folic acid in it ?(

all the pre-natal vits have 400mcg but it has 700mcg ?( ...350% of recommended allowance.....why would you need that much ?(

Apparently the dosae is so low it wouldnt cause your blood to thin enough to cause bleeding .... just increase blood flow.

I'm not sure about the folic acid .... I take the pregnacare vitamins double pack (whick contains some kind of disgusting fish oil .... yummm) and that's just 400mcg which is what most preg vits are ... why don't you ask at a chemist? I'm sure Boots will be able to shed some light???

Seems that most of you are still going ... I think it's like most things ... if someone told you that doing a daily handstand (Not a chance) would make the baby stick, you'd do it ... I'll keep taking it and ask my doc when I should stop at my next scan

its meant to make the lining of your womb thinner...yes...but when a little baby is in there the lining has to get thicker ?(....i'm so confused about it but i'm taking it anyway

Mum24p - i have to take a high dose of a disorder i have MTFH ( i think that is in the right order!) and Factor VI as i dont absorbe it into my blood stream well, also some women benefit from an extra vit b suppliment (especially those with PCO)

Asprin increases the lining as it encourages blood flow

Kirsty, i was told the same as rosie and only told to stop if i start bleeding.

34 weeks is the norm if you have been prescribed it, that ensures that you are all sorted for birth and its well out of your system but ensures good womb lining uup to the latest safest time.

Just seen this post and was interested because i thought I was originally told to take it to week 12 of pregnancy but I asked the nurse last week and she checked with my cons and he said stop now I know I'm pregnant. I'm very confused as i thought it was good to take it through pregnancy too?

I took mine right upto the day I was induced.

Irish, you are right aspirin thins the blood slightly, but this gives an increased flow causing the womb lining to thicken hun! :))

It all depends why you are taking it in the first place, if you are taking it to thicken the womb lining then stop at 12-14 weeks, if you are at risk of abnormal clotting factors take all the way through. There are several theorys on stopping before you give birth, one doctor told me to stop at 34 weeks, but the cons told me to take it until I was induced. After birth though I suffered a massive heamorrage and had to have my womb manually contracted (not nice) so the next time around I'd be tempted to stop at the 34 weeks

I'm on both aspirin and heparin, both to icrease blood blow to the uterus. I wasn't told to take aspirin during stimming to help my lining (but I did anyway!). The decision on whether I needed them or not was made on day of ET based on my red blood cell count. At my last blood test two days ago my progesterone had dipped a little so they've uped my heparin, again to thin the blood and maximise blood flow. I think it very much depends on your individual situation as to whether you should be taking aspirin or not...

I'm only 5 weeks in so don't know yet how long I'll be taking them for but for the heparin I think it's at least up to 21 weeks.

Low Dose Aspirin?

Hi

I got my first ever BFP yesterday - yay! My clinic has advised that it won't do any harm to take 75mg aspirin from here on in but I am a bit worried, does anyone have any experience/words of wisdom on this?

Much appreciated!

When to stop taking baby aspirin?

Hi Ladies

I've been taking baby aspirin and my clinic says it's ok to stop taking it and the pessaries at 12wks. As 12wks is getting closer, I find myself getting anxious about just stopping everything all at once.

If you are taking aspirin, when do/did you stop taking it?

Many thanks

RE: When to stop taking baby aspirin?

I am still taking it!
The m/c obstetrician I am seeing advises taking it until 34 - 36 weeks.
I saw her on Tuesday and she told me to keep taking it and we'll decide when to stop when I see her again at 34 weeks.

Is it your clinic who have been dealing with investigations for your m/cs or have you been seen by a m/c clinic?

Hi Jen

The aspirin was recommended by my ivf clinic, not cons who did all the m/c tests.
Apparently all my clotting tests were normal, but I still think stopping aspirin at 12wks is a little soon. I'm not sure if asking the midwife will be any help either, so I don't know what to do and I'm scared. Would it hurt to carry on taking it?

Hi Liz,
My IVF clinic stopped my aspirin early on (6 weeks) because I had bleeding. I am still taking clexane, although that works differently to aspirin.
For stopping the pessaries, I took them on alternate days on the last week so it wasn't such an abrupt stop.

My blood hasn't shown any clotting issues either (and I;ve had all of the tests twice)....however, the m/c cons thought it was worth a go anyway. Who knows, it may have made the difference or it may have been a coincidence. As I have not had any adverse effects (unlike Mavis) through taking it she wanted me to stay on it until almost full term. It is certainly standard practice in her clinic to do this.

Whilst my midwife knew diddly squat about taking low dose aspirin she did ensure that I had appts set up with the m/c obstetrician. If I was you I would speak to your MW and ask to be referred to an obstetrician to talk over your previous m/cs and how long you should take the aspirin for. Until then, well, if you haven't had any side-effects then I would keep taking the aspirin. But of course I am not medically trained and am not really in a position to advise on that....except to say that it doesn't appear to have done me any harm and my baby is kicking strongly as I type.

Thanks Jen and Mavis :hugs:

I have had some bleeding, well more of a brownish/red thick discharge (sorry that is yuk and tmi!) but it has, fingers crossed, stopped now. I think I will continue with the aspirin as I have that 'gut' feeling that I should. But I will ask the midwife and also cons for their advise as well.

I can't wait till I feel some movement! Must be an amazing sensation. I had a scan yesterday and my flump has grown quite a bit - 49mm! We even saw little fingers lurve
hmm think I should be updating my diary :snigger:

Aspirin after BFP?

Hello Everyone,

Just wondering if you ladies can help.

I'm on Clexane injections, Cyclogest pessaries and 75mg aspirin tablets. I got my BFP yesterday :D and rang my clinic this morning to ask if I needed to carry on taking aspirin. The nurse hesitated for a minute before saying to stop taking it from today.

I would appreciate any tips and advice that could help.

Can't really help with stopping I'm afraid, my clinic have kept me on the aspirin and clexane as my blood tests showed my blood was still clotting heavily. If you're worried about what the nurse said then I'd try to get a Dr to talk to you, some clinics just use aspirin for implantaton and some keep you on it for a while, it doesn't do any harm to continue to take it.

Thanks a lot Grace. I did ring the clinic again and spoke to another nurse who told me to carry on taking it until I go to my 6 week scan and then the doctor will tell me how long I need to take it.

Many thanks again.
