Big day tomorrow

Hello everyone.

Just thought I would pop in and give you an update of our situation.

We started injecting the Menotrophin on 20 Sept, I was really worried about doing the injections but Jo assured me that I didn't hurt her at all. We injected 1 ampule per day until 24 Sept, Jo then had a blood test and the Doctor decided that we should start injecting 2 amp one day, 1 amp the next.

Jo had blood taken and a scan on 29 Sept (Cycle day 10) and we had the following follical result:

Left = 1x15mm & 3x14mm
Right = 1x14mm + small

The Doctor decided that we needed the following injections to ensure we did not over-stim. 1 amp followed by 1/2 amp then none on the next day.

Jo had more blood and another scan on 02 Oct (Cycle day 13) and we had the following follical result:

Left = 1x17mm, 1x14mm & 1x15mm
Right = 1x16mm & small

We had a call from St Michaels (Bristol) on Monday afternoon saying that it was 'All systems go', Jo and I were shocked as our luck is rubbish usually and we thought they would say they were going to abandon the cycle. Monday night at 10pm we had to inject the Ovitrelle, which was absolutely terrifying for me as we were not really shown what to do. After much internet searching we found the instructions and I (eventually after much panic) managed to do the injection.

Well here we are, it is Tuesday and tomorrow morning is D-Day for our 1st cycle (and maybe last as we have only been granted 1 cycle at the moment) of IUI. It feels a bit strange at the moment as we have been attending St Michaels Hospital for nearly 2 years now and it is strange to think that if things don't go 100% tomorrow then that is it for us at St Michaels.

Fingers crossed that everything will go well.
Sean

Hello again everybody.

What a busy day that was, very exciting though.

Started with me doing my bit [zx138] and going to the Priory Road clinic, at midday we picked up the sample and delivered it to St Michaels, where we were informed that they had double booked everything and we will probably have a big wait....

We both settled down with magazines and a newsagent picnic (Cans of coke and packets of crisps), typical though we were called in within 10 minutes. After going through the usual hospital checks, we (read Jo) were inseminated (is that a word?). Jo said she felt 1) somewhat exposed and 2) slight discomfort akin to period pain (probably similar to being kicked in the balls for a man then????).

That was it, we were back sat in the car within 40 minutes, I cannot believe 2 years of various appointments, prodding, probing etc etc was actually over within 40 mins.

Jo and I went out tonight for a nice meal and Jo has taken the rest of the week off of work so she isn't going to put any un-necessary strain on her body, luckily I am off of work until Friday night so we can enjoy the next couple of days and try to enjoy this experience.

Now we have to wait, the horrible 2 week wait that we all have to deal with.

I will keep everyone updated, I have everything crossed and we are hoping for a [zx249].

S & J

I am glad it went well - surprised you went so quickly - is it literally insem into uterus, rest and then go when ready? Keep everything crossed for you and keep occupied and calm-ish over next 2 wks.

My DH says he can now go on the 31st Oct for the Ovulation Induction Apt which I am so pleased about.

Hiya Sean.

Glad it went smoothly. It is a somewhat exposing situation isn't it!
My last Insem it was open season on my unmentionables! I had a nurse try.. couldn't do it... she got a male (yes Male !!) Dr to try... he couldn't (mind you I swore at him too - that didn't help his confidence!) then they eventually got my normal Dr who I'd asked for originally and she did it in 2 seconds!

Good idea for Jo to have a couple days off. Is she taking it easy? Does she have some good DVD's and magazines around her!

She may experience some cramping in the next couple of days... and there is a possibility of some spotting. She shouldn't be too worried - the spotting will just be because the catheter can scratch slightly.

It's nice that you have a couple days off with her until Fri night - I guess you're shift work? My brother works shifts too in Bristol - he's a printer!

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone.

Jo is being made a comfortable as possible, unfortunately she is not one to sit down for too long. She has enough books, magazines and DVD's to sink a ship.

Lisa, I do work shifts, I too am a printer in Bristol working for Xerox. I work this weekend Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon 7pm-7am. Not nice hours but it pays the bills.

Great news Sean and Jo! Good luck for the 2WW!

I think we will be insem on 16th Oct. We were due to go away that weekend but have had to cancel. We're hoping to go the weekend after (will be 4 days after insem), but I'm not sure about flying. Anyone know what the advice is after IUI?

Sean and Jo: Good luck on the 2WW
Tracey: There is nothing to say that you can't fly after IUI. Ladies who go overseas for IVF/ICSI often fly just a dew days after ET so I don't see why you can't.
