Egg Collection on Monday! Nervous!

Just done my trigger! So nervous about egg collection on Monday as I don't really know what to expect.
Any hints/tips/advice or what to expect from it? Is it very sore or uncomfortable? Xxx

How did the trigger go hon? Enjoy your injection-free day :)

With me - NBM from midnight, no jewellery (except wedding rings), D.O. Makeup, perfume or nail varnish. We went in to the little ward, sat on the bed and the consultant came and talked us through the procedure, I got changed in a gown, the nurse came and put a canula in my arm, flushed it and gave me antibiotics. Went to the loo, 3 times, a really empty bladder is best. Then walked into the ‘theatre’, got into the stirrups and was covered in all the sheeting and cleaned. Nurse put in pain relief and sedative, I was definitely with it for a good while as remember consultant asking me how much it would take to get me drunk, how husbands work was going, heard 3 songs of my CD. Felt 2 slightly uncomfortable bits, I guess when they went in either side but nothing too bad, only lasted a couple of seconds. Then I must have gone to sleep as don’t remember the rest of the CD. Wheeled back to ward, slid across to bed, snoozed for an hour or so, come round from sedative, BP checks every 10 minutes, decaf coffee and biscuits  canula out then home. All in all 4 hours.

Sorry for the waffle :) I was nervous too but it really isn’t too bad at all, and is very exciting as this is it xxx

Thanks for that Dusky, it's good to have an idea of what will happen.

Trigger was fine. I was nervous doing it, kept thinking I'd mess it up and not get it done at the right time or something would go wrong but it was really easy to do. Had a dream last night that I had to do another and I messed it up and it leaked everywhere and there was some left in the needle when I was done lol. Glad i didn't have that dream before it!

My notes say I can have a light breakfast but to avoid heavy meals for 1-2 hours before. Plus it only says to avoid perfume, nothing about make up or nail polish and the Dr actually commented on my gel polish on Friday but didn't say to remove it or anything.

Anyone else had egg collection at rfc and had to go with no make up/nail polish? X

I just showered that morning and didn't put deodorant on, no makeup or perfume. I took it all with me and just did it in recovery. I also told my OH no deodorant or aftershave. They say it's mainly the perfume because of contamination but I wasn't taking any chances!!
I wasnt in long, i didng bleed and blood pressure etc was normal straight after. Just relax as best you can, my nurses Dr and embryoligist were such good craic I was so relaxed x
Good luck x

I guess everywhere’s different, they say NBM cod of the sedative and the other stuff cos it’s toxic to eggs, the chance is so teeny though xx

Thanks ladies, I'll just avoid perfume/deodorant/make up anyway to be sure. Think my nail polish should be ok though since they didn't mention it and it's not in the notes. I've been busy this weekend with a friends birthday yesterday and my mum's 60th today so not too much time to dwell in it thankfully.
Had a really nice chat with my hubby last night about it all and how he's feeling, he doesn't normally talk about it all too much but he'd had a few drinks and it was really nice to hear how he was feeling deep down about it all.
I'm excited too but the nerves over the actual procedure are kinda taking over. Think it's the unknown too, if it done it before and knew exactly what to expect it wouldn't be so bad x

Janelle RFC are much less that 4hrs ad we dnt get sedated out to sleep, just a pain relief that makes you a little woozy!! You sld be in and out in about 2hrs!! U will also get gas n air to suck on and you can use as much of that as u want so just keep sucking lol l definitely felt abit uncomfortable in parts but they collected 20mature eggs from me and I had slight OHSS by then so cld have been a mix of it all!!

Good luck and I’m sure you will be fine!! X

I wasn’t put to sleep but I did fall asleep, I think linked to low BP as that’s what the consultant said to DH, not me tho. Ooo wish I had gas and air, love that :) Think I was only in the room for 30-40 minutes xx

The embryoligist was fab he shouted in every time an egg was collected lol it actually was so exciting in the room. Don't be nervous at all Janelle it will all be over in a flash. X

Gcrm

Hi
My experience of egg collection at gcrm- I worked before so travelled up in my work clothes. I had showered and washed my hair as normal and did have make up (light) and deodorant on. I keep my make up and gel polish on during collection. I was told not to fast from evening before. Embroyolost came to see me before to show me a picture of the embryo being used and doctor talked briefly about procedure. I was taken in a trolley to the room wearing a gown. Anasetic was used and I was out for 20 mins - from wheels done to back to my room was about 25-30 mins. I’ll be honest mine was very easy , straight forward and I didn’t feel a things. No pain afterwars and continued with my routine as Normal.
You will be fine tomorrow and everything will be ok.

Good luck and don’t think too much about it xxx

All done and dusted! We got 4 eggs which is ok, I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get more but considering I only had around 7 follicles 4 isn't bad I suppose. The EC was very uncomfortable and sore, they seemed to have trouble getting to my ovaries, think they were playing hide and seek lol. The nurse had to press down on my stomach a lot to get them in the right position. At home now and I'm feeling not too bad now, sore to move too much or pee etc (sorry tmi) but fine if I'm just sitting or lying down.
Hubbys biopsy went well too and they got good sperm to use. He had the gas and air during his biopsy and it was hilarious. He called the Dr and nurse f***ers 8| and thought they were playing a prank on him lol.
I've to phone in the morning to see how the 4 embryos are getting on, fingers crossed they all fertilise since there aren't many. Then probably ET on Thursday afternoon xxx
