Tips.. egg collection

So tomorrow is the day. I've to be there for 9.30. Anyone who has done it, are there any do's or don't. What does the pain relief feel like when you get it? They told me it will make me dizzy and I'm freaking out. Dizzy makes me panic. Did you get anything to calm your nerves?

Best of luck Anniebell.
You will be well looked after. I maybe was lucky and didn’t feel dizzy, or wasn’t aware as you are lying down. The nurses are lovely and held my hand throughout. I choose not to have my partner in with me as he is so squeamish that seeing him all nervous would make me more nervous. It is over fairly quick, and you are given a bit of time to rest before leaving. I was able to walk to the train station afterwards.
I just kept thinking this is one step closer to my dream and tried to adopt a positive mental attitude.
Get plenty of rest the next day.
You have all the hard work over you, look how well you are doing.

Good luck.

Thank you both. I'll be glad when this is over tomorrow. Hubby will be with me. Did you find it painful? I'd rather know what to expect than not. I'm an idiot!

More uncomfortable than painful. I have had more pain at my dentist- but maybe I need to change dentist!
Plus maybe it’s a bit like childbirth, once it’s over- you kind of blank it out.

Anniebell- I don’t know if you had a HSG test (dye test) as part of your fertility tests? I honestly didn’t find EC half as bad as that, but maybe I got lucky. It is a weird sensation, but the doctors/nurses do it every day so have faith in them. Hope you sleep tonight

Good luck annie. I found it more uncomfortable than anything over in 5 mins. There are a few sharp pains. Once it was over i felt grand no pain that evening or next day. Its just a surreal experience but everyone is lovely. I went it into it completely blind to what was happening think i was expecting some sort of key hole surgery lol lol

Quick question ladies I'm supposed to have my EC on Monday and for those that have had it did you have to remove gel nails , acrylics nail varnish etc. .

Excellent number, fingers crossed for fertilisation for you Anniebell.

Oh and in answer to marthas question, I wore nail varnish on my toes as it didn't even cross my mind and no one said anything. However at the RFC you aren't under anaesthetic like some places so maybe that's why some get advised not to. Best of luck for Monday xx

Martha, a few extra days will make all the difference.

I got 11 eggs, 8 injected and 4 fertilised. I have to ring back Sunday. That phone call was the most nerve wrecking of my whole life. Pray for my wee embies... I feel such attachment to them already!

Brilliant Anniebell! Your dream was right then, 4!! I know what you mean about that phonecall. I was very 'together ' about the IVF until I had to make that phone call and then while I was waiting on them telling me how many if any had survived I just started to cry. I got good news like you but wailed when I came off the phone. Praying for your embies. Mine were day 5. Xxxxxxxxxx

More waiting for me.... 4 wee embyros have survived and all doing well so they are leaving me until Day 5. I could have cried. We live so far away that they had told us be ready to walk out through the door. They didn't answer the phone for 10 minutes. I was going out of my mind. Then not need to go anywhere was deflating and more waiting is torturous but I am delighted delighted delighted all have made it this far. More than I had ever hoped for. Tuesday cannot come fast enough!!!

Joys, did you lose any embryos between days 3 and 5? Did you end up with any to freeze? I'm a little worried but I suppose I'm just gonna be a ball of worry for the forseeable!

We went from 6 (Day 3) to 3 (day 5) & had one transferred and two frozen. They said it's normal to lose some as they would've been the ones unlikely to have survived anyway. I remember thinking as long as 50% survive but saying that you only need one to have to a baby so I've got my fingers crossed for you. The wait is very difficult. I'm currently waiting for my scan to confirm it and it's excruciating as the RFC said to be cautiously optimistic until you hear the heart beat.

I can't even imagine how you are feeling waiting on your scan. When is it again? This past few days have been really hard wondering and worrying. I know what will be will be but it's so hard to turn the thoughts off. I know if I just get one I'm flying but you want all of them to do well. Tomorrow will tell the tale.
