Poo!

Hi all,

Not sure where to post this!

Anyway, little one was 6 weeks old yesterday, I'm a little concerned that he hasn't pooed for three days! whoops2 I saw health visitor yesterday and told her he hadn't been but she didn't seem overly concerned!

He's certainly weeing well and farting loads! (They are really smelly, :yuk: but they have always been!) he doesn't seem bothered in any way and certainly isn't screaming and crying, he does strain as if he's going to do one but then doesn't!

Should I be worried? [zx120]

Hi Rico, are you still BF? I seem to remember DS being the same and would go a few days without a dirty nappy compared to one of his friends who was constantly pooing. I think it would be more of a concern if he was formula fed as they find formula harder to digest than breast milk.

Hi Rico

I got squish weighed yesterday and someone else was querying just this who was also breastfeeding and they werent at all worried. From what i overheard was just keeo an eye on it and as long as its not causing discomfort not to worry.

Squish is bottle fed so different i know but she goes a couple of days without a poo and they arent even worried too much about that.

If you are BF it's pretty normal for them not to poo every day - my health visitor said sometimes they can go a week without! Xx

Thanks ladies,

Yes still breastfeeding for now although still incredibly sore! Being tested for deep thrush even though neither of us seem to have any outwardly signs of thrush! It has to be something as Hv said the latching and feeding was fine!

I'll know on Friday! Days like today I'm ready to give up but I so want to continue!

Still no poo! But he's not seemingly worried about it so I'll try not to be! I may go to clinic tomorrow just to check if nothing comes out! ?o(

Hi, Hun
If you are still breast feeding then please do not worry. Breast milk is really well digested leaving little to go as waste so babies can easily skip up to 8 days between poos. In fact I remember reading that breastfed babies can also vary widely ranging from 8 times per day to once in 8 days...

I reckon that as long as you little one is not uncomfortable, don't worry about it.

Hi,

Regarding the pain - have you tried completely different feeding positions - like the rugby ball hold (just google it: breastfeeding rugby ball position - images). It was the solution for a friend of mine so definitely something to try.

Glad to read about the poo - guess it was huuuuge. Yes strangely normal up to 10 days to go without if breastfed.

Glad you have poo!!

I found the rugby ball position was good for pain - but could ony do it on one side as was too cack handed on the left hand side!! Have you tried nipple shields? I didn't use them as managed to get a good latch that didn't hurt after about 4 weeks but some of my Nct friends did and they worked for them. Well done for persevering. It's tough to bf - you're doing really well xx

Thanks for the suggestions ladies,

I've had a visit from a lactation consultant and she showed me the football hold, brilliant when she was here, but then couldn't manage it! :hairout

Tried two types sizes of nipple shields - no good for me!

Have changed my sitting position now so it is a little easier, but as my nipples are so sore no feed is pain free! :pinch:

Determined to carry on though, but it's getting close!
