New to IUI: Starting on Low Dose Nasal Spray

As per thread on Gen Fert Discussions, later this year due to have IUI starting on a low dose nasal spray as I do ovulate. What does this taste like - yuk????

Just wanted to know what IUI "feels" like and can I do jabs myself as nurse seems to think someone has to jab me in bum?

Jabs are done either in the leg or tummy (or bum but not easy if you're doing them yourself!) & aren't as bad as you think!

Lisa is the best one to advise on the sniffs

As for the insem itself it's very similar to a smear, uncomfortable rather than painful but you may get cramps afterwards for a short while!

Good luck Lorraine - if its the same sniff i had (synarel) - its not that bad but can taste yucky when it runs down the back of your throat - all worth it though!! xxx

What is the "low dose" ?

My protocol was to sniff once every 4 hours (so 8am, 12, 4pm, 8pm and sniff twice when I went to bed).

It can taste pretty yukky. A bit like very awful cough medicine!

But, even though it's called "sniffing" you don't actually have to physically sniff it up. You pop the nasal spray into a nostril and spray it.
If you do actually sniff it up it is much worse as it'll go down the back of your throat.

Have a tissue to hand though as some will dribble out !!!

Good luck :)

The Cons said "start on a low dose nasal spray as blood tests show I ovulate"?

So you hold one nostril and snill once with the other - sort of thing?

Also Steve thinks it will be impossible for him to be there at the Induction Apt - can I jab myself?

Lorraine: it depends on what they give you to stim. I used Menagon on one or two cycles and had to have someone else do them as they have to be given into muscle - awkward to do for yourself. The rest of my cycles I used Gonal F which gets given into the fat layer that sits just under your skin. These are given into the tummy or the thigh and you can then give them yourself. They are really not that bad at all - it's the first one or two that are hard to do but they really are not sore...

Good luck, Hun

You dont have to close the other nostril - just stick it up one and spray!

Did they mention the name of the stimming drug - depending on the type of the drug depends on where you inject it

Puregon and Menopur are tummy (sub-cuteanous)
