I agree, this is a great site and like I said before I think I get better advice here than I do from the GP or health visitor! Can definitely talk about more stuff than I would with friends as we've all been through the same journey to get our wee miracles. No one apart from you guys even knows that I had fertility treatment! I was the same as you pip, read loads before I was brave enough to post. I don't think I'd actually have got through the treatment if it wasn't for the support I received here. Hopefully if I ever have more treatment there'll be others going through the same again.

Thank you all for your advice about R's skin. I'm at my wits end. His whole body, face and arms and legs are bright red and really dry and sore looking. He even managed to scratch his tummy when in the bath and made it bleed. Yeah pip he is still under the pediatrician but next appointment isn't until July. I will maybe try ringing them tomorrow though and see if it will get me anywhere. Sorry to hear Olivia is under the weather. I bet Amelia loved getting you all to herself for a while though!

Ashatar your poor boy - keep pestering people's lie until you get seen - hope you find a specialist soon privately. I found a fab consultant paediatrician who had an interest in allergies here - you could ask for a list of paediatricians and see if any have an interest in allergies maybe?

I also love this site - it's been a total godsend to me and like some of you many of my friends don't even know I had fertility treatment so it's great to come on here and chat to people who understand. The advice and support has been wonderful. What I think is sad is how quiet the site is compared with how it used to be - loads of the people who used to be on here have disappeared - do hope that the site continues into the future for others as it's such a great place. I'm not going anywhere! Like you Ashatar I think I get better advice here than from HV etc and I know with my first DD I would have gone totally bonkers without the support on here lol!

Also love hearing from you Sasha - come join in the chat ( and you Onewish if you're reading!). I know this is called new parent chat but really it's just parent chat! Sasha you helped me so so much when DD1 was born xx

Omg ladies I am so tired, Dd2 up 5 times last night - maybe she's coming down with a cold as DD1 has one and DH has yet another cold too ( although luckily nowhere near as bad as the last one). Hoping I avoid it. Don't know what to do really as the only think that stopped her crying was milk - it's so exhausting. She's not overly hungry in the daytime and night before last she only woke once at 3am so I don't know what's going on!

DD1 is regressing with her toilet training big style - she's refusing a wee when she gets up and through the day despite obviously being desperate to go ( dancing around the room etc). She's had a few little accidents and when we try and get her to go for a wee she starts screaming and crying. I don't want to make a big deal of it but anyone have any ideas? It's a shame as she's been dry day and night since August.

Hope everyone is well - how is R Ashastar? How is O doing Pip?

Net could she have a water infection making it painful to wee? Other than that I don't know. It must be so frustrating after months of being dry!

I'm with you on the sleep too. J is so unpredictable! He's been refusing formula for a week now, I just don't understand after 2 weeks if happily having a bottle every evening. I was supposed to be going out tomorrow but to be honest I am feeling quite run down so can't really be bothered anyway!

How was the dentist visit Pip?

Good to hear from you Sasha x

Thanks for your lovely posts ladies.

Net my ds done exactly the same thing round about November time, he was toilet trained in March I think but still wears a nappy at night, he started to do the dancing about but refusing to go and up until then we had had very few accidents, then it progressed to just standing and peeing himself, I'm not really sure why he done it and thankfully it's past but we just went back to basics of telling him to go to the toilet whereas before I gave him a wee bit more independence and he just went whenever he needed, he hated me telling him when to go and if he refused we used to play a game to see who could make it to the bathroom the quickest, he always won obviously.

Hope everyone else is well will pop back later

Hi everyone :)

Net Z went backwards a bit when F was first born but thankfully didn't last long and he's back on track again!! We just ignored it, and if he had an accident didn't make a fuss and just said oh no let's try and get to the toilet next time.
Took F docs again yesterday, his chest is still really bad it's been 10weeks now since he first got poorly, feel like I'm failing him :( they gave him an inhaler last week which hasn't helped at all, so yesterday he gave him some antibiotics. Let's see if that helps.
Had a cheeky night off night duty last night, Z fell asleep at 5.30 as he wasn't feeling great so took him up to bed, said to dp I'm going to lay down about 8 as was feeling lousy too, then me and Z woke at 7 this morning, dp stayed downstairs with F, of course I got moaned at he said I thought you was only going to lay down ;) well he could of woke me tuff s**t!!! rotf then he said F woke him up loads haha welcome to my world, I'm not going to feel sorry for you love hahaha!!!

Thanks all for the toilet advice! I'm hoping she'll just stop being scared of the toilet in time...it's almost comical to watch her dancing like crazy as she's so desperate to go but I ask her and she says ( or shouts) nooooooooo. Generally 10 mins later she asks to go for a wee and sometimes it's just a bit too late.

Anyone else's LO have bad drool rash from teething? Any ideas to help it? Poor E is absolutely red raw on her cheeks and chin. I've used Vaseline and some epaderm cream but neither seems very effectjve. Have bought some ashtons and parsons powders now so will try in the morning as she's pretty miserable from teething.

Cheenab sorry that F's chest is still bad. E didn't seem to get wheezing from the bronchiolitis luckily. Hope that the doctor can get to the bottom of it.

We're having an unsettled evening here. DH is settling him though. As soon as he stepped in the door from work he took him from me. :)

Oh Cheenab that's a shame about the wheezing but good work on getting your DH to do the night shift. It's weird my hubby misses doing a night shift with H!! He liked watching his geeky TV with him!!

I need to fish out our teething powder and bring him back to doc as he still has bad cough. Got a call yesterday cancelling his skin review appt as the doc is sick so no idea when he'll get another one.

Did you get anywhere Ashatar with your private appt?

Net sometimes my little girl in a temper tantrum refuses to go to the toilet. She literally stands crying with wee running down her legs!! She occasionally also has accidents sometimes but she did refuse to go at one time when she had a UTI. Xx

Hi all,

Net, sorry I've no experience yet of toilet training but sounds like you've got great advice from the others so hopefully just a phase she is going through and will stop soon. I hope E settles for you and you get some sleep. I always use sudocream for the dribble rash and it clears it up really quickly.

Cheenab sorry to hear F still isn't too well. Poor wee man has had a hard time. Hopefully the antibiotics will help. Well done on getting a night off though! My DH used to say he liked looking after R while I went to bed but he hasn't done it in a very long time. Must remind him lol.

I managed to get a private appointment this morning with a pediatric dermatologist. He agreed that the eczema is severe and said that the creams the GP had prescribed weren't strong enough. He gave me a prescription for 4 different things to use and seemed confident that I would start to see an improvement in a few days. I really hope so! He also said that it's very unlikely that the eczema has been caused by a food allergy and told me not to cut anything out of his diet. Hope he is right as I've been merrily feeding R all his favourite things today lol. I feel a lot better having spoken with the consultant so fingers crossed things start to get better soon. Poor baby was up screaming and crying last night again and would only settle in my arms. I am exhausted today. Have literally spent this whole week rushing from one place to the next!

Hope everyone else's little ones are tucked up in bed letting all the tired mummies get some rest xx

Glad you got to see a specialist and he's given you a plan of action. Dermatologists tend to be less scared of giving stronger creams, steroids etc. All the different creams and times of days can seem daunting but it really helped us. H's skin is so much better. We can even get away with missing a night of bathing every so often and he hasn't used steroid cream in weeks now. As long as he gets his creams and baths regularly it's well under control. That's not to say it doesn't flair up if he's unwell but that's manageable. I am hopeful he will be one of the kids that grows out of it quickly.

How's your wee man Cheenab? Antibiotics helping at all?

Hope everyone else is good xx

Hi ladies how is everyone?
Glad u had a night out jasper.
Hope r is doing a bit better ashstar?

We had their consultant check up on Friday he was really pleased with them and said he didn't think there would b any long term issues out of their prematurity reassured me about the sitting up etc, back again in 4 months for another check up.

The dental check up last week seemed really about educating parents to brush teeth and take kids to dentist etc don't give them sugary drinks all that kind of thing.

Got a bit of the Sunday night dread tonight, DH is away a bit with work this week so gives me a bit of fear about managing on my own with both girls all week

Hi everyone,

Sorry to hear so many suffering with teething. I had no idea if took so long for babies to get teeth! Total nightmare isn't it? Hopefully they will all be a bit more settled tonight.

Pip, I'm sure you will be fine although it can't be easy with your husband working away. I always look forward to the weekend as it's definitely easier with 2 pairs of hands!

Jasper well done on getting a night out. I would kill for one lol.

R is doing a lot better thankfully. I've only been putting the new creams on him for 2 days so far but already the eczema is starting to clear up. He doesn't seem so itchy either. Such a relief!

We now have a new problem though! He has been sleeping right through the night for months now but for the past week he has woken around 1am and pretty much screamed the house down for about 2 hours. The only way he will settle is if I lift him and rock him back to sleep in my arms but the second I put him back in the cot he wakes and it starts all over again. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with him so I don't know why he has started doing this. I've tried warming his sheets with a hot water bottle before I put him back but it makes no difference. Any suggestions ladies? I miss my sleep!

Great news about the review Pip

And Jasper way to go for the tricking him with the bottle!!

Ashatar great news on his skin improving. It is amazing how much difference using the right creams can make. I'm not sure about the screaming. Maybe it's night terrors?! Or could he just be going through a growth spurt.

My DH took H to the doc this morning as he's had a cough for weeks now. His chest has been a bit rattly but he's been in good form and still eating and drinking. He had antibiotics about 3 weeks ago. Doctor says he has really bad chest infection all the way down his lungs!! He's on steroids and stronger antibiotic so hopefully that works. Had to laugh the doc said she has never seen a bigger baby of the same age. He is almost the same weight as her 2 year old!!

Hope everyone is good xx

Thanks ashstar and heather
Oh heather, what weight is he, it's funny the difference in size between all different babies for no real reason. Hope his chest clears up poor soul.
I have a question for u, when ur twins were small how did u carry them around? They r getting so heavy to carry 2 car seats but I don't want to pop the pram up just to go from the car into places.

Ashstar, how is h doing? Hope the new creams r doing good.

Hope u had a good night out jasper

Net how is e doing?
Cheenab hope u r well, did u come to a decision on ur night job?

Pip I'm not sure what weight he is at the mo. Over 2 stone I think!! It was my hubby that had him at docs.

I think I used to do what you are doing with the pram. I also bought a twin stroller that was lighter to put up and down. I have to do the same now with H. He just too heavy to carry about anymore. He needs to go in the pram or straight into a shopping trolley as he is literally a tonne weight :snigger: I'm trying to think if I did anything else but it definitely got to the stage where carrying two car seats at once was too much.

I know you weren't looking forward to your DH being away but I promise you can do it on your own. It may be tiring at times but you're the one getting all the smiles and laughs. I remember phoning my hubby in tears one night when he was working nights in the early days as I was so tired and they were taking forever to feed but I think the joy of them finally being there got me through those early days. Once they slept through it was fun but weaning time was so messy with one copying the other. I know have the same only its our 2 year old who copies her big sisters and is the biggest messer ever!!

It does get easier I promise : D

Ah Heather poo old H! Hope his chest clears up soon.

Ashatar glad that R's skin is clearing up a bit - hope it continues to do so. How is the sleeping? I found DD1 would go through phases - at 6 months for instance she kept waking at 5 am - lasted about three weeks then went back to 6.30am.

Pip glad the review went well.

Jasper how is J doing?

Wardie how are you?

Hi everyone else X

E is doing ok after her awful day on Saturday. I think it was her teeth but who knows. Her sleeping continues to be all over the place. Last night was fab as she only woke once at 2am but night before last she was up five times. And DD2 keeps waking at 5.30 so we are soooo tired in this house! Have baby and mummy yoga today and looking forward to that. She's so chunky now I'm struggling to carry her for any length of time. Mind you my friends baby is almost 12kg at 7 months so I keep thinking at least she's not that heavy! My back is ruined! Heather how much is H weighing now?

Net I'm not sure what weight H is. He must be over 24kg by now!! He was 22 something about 6 weeks ago but he's growing at a rate of knotts!!

I went to mother and baby Pilates which was great for my back as it was wrecked after a car accident and it definitely helped. I notice now when I'm holding H when my posture is bad and when I correct it how it helps. Who would have thought!!?

I really do believe Pip it was the constant joy at finally being parents that made the first year good with the twins. I know people say having twins is double the work but it's much more than that. There are just little things that is more but when I see my two now I think they are less work. They always have someone to play with (and fight!) that means I don't need to entertain them constantly as my two are more than happy to go out to the garden and play on their own without me so it def gets easier as they get older xx

Hi ladies!

Wow such a difference in the size of all the babies! Heather your wee man sounds like he is a big boy. My niece has just turned one and she is about 21lbs and on the 98th centile lol. I had R weighed today and he is 16lb 13oz and has gone up a centile. Considering how small he was when he was born he is becoming quite a wee chunky monkey now! His skin is continuing to improve and is almost completely cleared up. This time last week it was horrendous and I was at my wits end so it's such a relief to see a big improvement. The last 2 nights he has slept better too. He won't take a dummy but has a wee comforter thing that he likes to suck on in bed. I realised that because I was putting scratch mits on him he wasn't able to pick it up! As his face is better now I've been leaving the scratch mits off. Last night I woke at 1am and could hear him fidgeting. I was waiting on the crying starting but next thing I heard him babbling and cooing instead! When I peeped in at him he was lying hugging and talking to the comforter. Next thing he fell asleep again. So cute!

Pip you must have big muscles carting two car seats about because I am almost wrecked lifting one! All the bending and sitting on the floor really takes its toll, doesn't it? I can see why people have babies when they are younger! Sometimes I feel like an old lady trying to get up off the floor carrying R lol.

Aww net that's not easy being up so much during the night. It's hard when they sleep well one night cos then you expect the same the next night and when they don't do it it's even harder! What weight is E now? Your photos of her on Facebook are lovely. I love her wee chubby cheeks!

Cheenab how is F now? I hope the antibiotics are helping.

Sorry if I've missed anyone xx

Ah that's brilliant that R's skin is improving so quickly. E also has a comforter that she sucks like crazy. They look so cute with them don't they! E was 13lb 6 a week or so ago so I would think she's Maybe 13lb 11 now. She does have fab chubby cheeks I have to say - thank you! We had a great time at baby yoga today - she was loving it.

Sorry no more personals just popping on whilst feeding E xxx

We're starting baby yoga on Friday, I'm really looking forward to it!
Ashatar that's great that things have improved and so quickly too!

Hats off to you ladies lugging 2 car seats around! I carry J in a sling Atleast 2-2 hours a day abd yesterday was more and by evening I was aching!

J had his second lot of jabs yesterday and slept very well last night! We seem to have taken a step back and he screams alot in the evenings due to wind, it's exhausting as I feel like I'm on the go all day and night!
Is anyone trying to lose any weight? We're going on holiday in May and I set myself a goal of getting bk to pre pg weight by then. I've lost 11lbs in 6 weeks, another stone to go!!!x

That's a brilliant weight loss jasper well done! I have a stone to lose to get to pre pregnancy weight, I wanted to do it b4 I go back to work but that's only 5 weeks so a bit ambitious I think.

Oh no I hope the crying settles down it is hard when u get used to it being calmer then it goes off again.

Olivia has been waking up, up to 4 times a night the last week or so it's hard going don't know if it's her teeth or what is bothering her really

Hi ladies,

Wow super busy on here!!!
How are we all?

Ashastar- glad to hear R face is clearing up, did they say how long you should use the cream? Or just till it clears? My nephew is still on this steroid cream now, but only has to have it when he has a flare up.

Net- we are all over the place with sleeping still aswell, i keep trying to start some sort of routine but come the next day it goes out the window haha!!
How's L doing?

Jasper, hope baby yoga goes well!! I really want to start doing something with F but there doesn't seem to be a lot around here that doesn't cost a fortune!!
I weighed myself yesterday first time since having F and I nearly fainted have never weighed this much before, serious diet starts today!!! I've been trying to walk more and get Z walking more too!! We are so lazy ;)

Heather, hope your little man is feeling much better soon xx

Pip you must be superwoman lugging two car seats around!! I struggle with one ;) have you tried one in a baby carrier maybe and the other in the seat?

Hi to anyone else I've missed :)

All going well here, F has finished his antibiotics now and fingers crossed seems a lot better!!! Still has a slight wheeze which I'm told will stay for a while, a little snotty nose but other than that all good ;) he had his second lot of jabs on Monday and was perfectly fine afterwards.
He's such a happy little soul always smiling and laughing :)
He's constantly shoving his fist, bib, teddy in his mouth but other than that the teething don't seem to be bothering him to much at the moment :)
I went to see a doctor a couple of weeks ago about constant dizziness etc, blood tests have come back that I have an underactive thyroid, she thinks it may just be pregnancy that has knocked it out of sync so fingers crossed it comes back as normal in 6 weeks when I have to repeat the bloods. Another added stress though.
Still haven't decided what to do about work, everyone keeps saying I should just go back, I should really. But honestly I don't want to!! ;)
Still a while yet to decide.

Hope your all well xx

Just has J weighed. He's 14lb 2oz, he has dropped a centile but they weren't worried.Funny how we want our children to put weight on but we spend our lives trying to lose it!!! X

That's amazing weight loss Jasper. Well done. I'm going the other way these days. Can't seem to find the time or energy to really look after myself properly. Hair needs done, need defuzzed and lose weight. I have told myself I will start my diet this Monday as I have two get togethers this weekend. Just need to get motivated.

Cheenab that great F is on the mend. My two youngest go to parent and toddler which they love and only costs a £1.

Pip hope Os sleep settles for you xx

Hi all

Jasper that's amazing weight loss, well done. Breastfeeding really demands the calories I am constantly hungry! I think E survives on cake and chocolate tbh!

Cheenab I second rhyme time at the library, L used to love that and it was 50p a pop. Glad F is on the mend.

Pip sorry to hear about the waking up. I do remember my DD1 went through loads of phases at your girls' age - hopefully she'll settle again soon.

Heather it's so hard to make time for ourselves sometimes isn't it. I got my hair done last week and felt much better for it.

I called the local sure start earlier and they don't do baby massage anymore :(
They basically do a learn and play for F's sort of age, it's under 5's so I could take Z too but then I'll be playing with him and not making a fuss of F, that sounds so selfish doesn't it :(
I just thought baby massage while Z's at nursery then I'm giving them both their own special one on one times. Z goes swimming lessons every week with me.
Will keep having a look about :)

It is a balancing act Cheenab. My youngest get lumped around after their big sisters but never seems to bother them and they love the company of each other. Don't feel bad. F just doesn't need the same level of attention in the same way just yet. I always do a day every couple of months when it is time with just me and one of the twins. They really love the one and one time and I let them choose what we are doing but I've only started that in the last year as they've got bigger.

I'm sure they'd all love more individual time but the way I figure it I work hard but when I get home they all have my attention until in bed and at the weekends too. They know they are loved and get to do lots of things as a family so they really aren't missing out. You can only do your best!!

Hi ladies how is everyone?

I had a dermatology appointment with Amelia yesterday I've been waiting weeks for it but it is just a patch on her leg. Anyway the woman was horrible, talking to me like I was daft as if I shouldn't have left it so long, well I have been waiting ages on the appointment, I was in and out in 2 mins and she was blabbing loads of info at me about what I'm supposed to do so I was quite stressed had to ask her to go over it and she was just rude about it. She is saying I should have been picking the cradle cap, I really thought it would go in its own time. Then she was saying I should bath them every day when other people have told me every other day is fine and washing too much can dry skin out.
So I felt terrible came home bathed them both picked at cradle cap, tried oil on their heads, got in a pure mess everyone was screaming. Was well stressful. We got a steroid cream as well but I've to put that on top of the moisturiser which I thought was a bit odd.

I've been doing baths in the morning so need to turn it around and do it at bedtime as no time to do it every morning. Just need to find a new routine
Ashstar how is R's skin now?

How is sleep going for everyone?

Hi ladies

Pip my ds who's now 3 1/2 still has cradle cap, I've been told also it will go away it its own time, my friends dd is just over 3 and also has it, my ds won't let me pick it and when I do bits of his hair comes out with it so I've stopped picking it now.

I was discussing with my friend that maybe baby products were making it worse so I've started to use a small amount of my shampoo to see if there's any difference.

I think it's a personal thing if you bath every day or not, it helps settle my ds before bed but if we miss a day or even two I don't worry about it, a quick cats lick never hurt anyone :)

Pip and Sasha H had horrendous cradle cap and I was given a shampoo by paediatrician called dermax I think which I used every 3rd night as found using it daily was working brilliantly at getting rid of cradle cap but was leaving his head red and raw looking. I was told to rub at the CC when hair is wet. Pip I used to think the same about the bathing when skin is bad but apparently daily nighttime baths are essential as long as there is a bath oil additive in the water. I actually found the bath oil really helped the cradle cap clear up as it was so oily that when I rubbed his head in the bath loads came off and he was totally cleared up in a couple of weeks. Was told by dermatologist products like johnsons shampoo are far too harsh if they have sensitive skin. I use Dermot lotion as H'a shampoo as it can be used as a soap substitute as it lots milder.

GP can prescribe all these for you if dermatologist didn't Pip.

I really do hate rude impatient doctors !!
Hope you're ok now xx

Thanks sasha and heather, I've got oilatum for the bath and a shampoo I got on minor ailments for cradle cap so will try all that, my MIL wants to put oil and a bone comb but I'm not sure about that
She was just so rude as if I knew I should have been doing all this and I was being lazy or something so annoying

Yes some of our doctors' bedside manners leave a lot to be desired.

I personally don't rate the oilatum bath oil as we never found it much use. If it's not helping ask GP for cetraben bath addictive. It's really good and works a treat on the cradle cap too but leaves the bath like an ice rink so needs a good rinse out if you're planning on using the bath.

I wasn't worried about H's cradle cap figuring it would go away in time until a GP told me it can leave bald patches if not dealt with so was a rapid change of view from then!!

Hi all,

Pip don't worry too much about the cradle cap. R has it too quite badly on the back of his head and to be honest until the rest of his skin flared up I'd never given it much thought. I've just been using the dentinox shampoo lately and it's clearing a bit but not much. I'm not keen on picking at it as I don't want to make his wee head sore. I was only bathing him every couple of days too but I've started doing it every day now and am putting dermol in the bath. I got it on prescription. I do the bath before bed as it seems to help tire him out. I hate doctors like that. Just because they are experts doesn't mean everyone is! Absolutely no excuse to be rude! It's not as if you're neglecting her - it's just a bit of cradle cap for goodness sake!

The steroid cream should clear up the patch on her leg. Which cream is it? The ones we got for R have worked absolute wonders. He is fully cleared up at the min!

I have a weaning question. A few weeks ago R started refusing to eat anything out of a jar so I've been making everything from scratch. I've really just been boiling potatoes or sweet potatoes and mashing them up with different vegetables. I know I should be giving him meat now too and a lot of the stuff in jars had meat in them but I'm not sure how to do it when I make stuff myself. Will I be able to blend it or should I just cut it up really small? He hasn't really got to grips with the finger foods yet although he can hold and eat a wee rice biscuit etc. I'm also having real trouble getting him to take much milk. He's not even very interested in the first bottle when he wakes in the morning. I'm only getting about 16oz into each day and the health visitor told me he should have 3 8oz bottles per day! I've tried giving less food but he still just pushes the bottle away and obviously I can't let him starve. How much do your girls take pip?

I'm still giving 5 bottles a day, but the ones with food which is 2 of them they will only take 2 or 3 oz the others anything from 5-7 oz so the whole day I probably get just about 20oz in. I can't really get them into drinking the water so I feel the ones where they only have a couple oz are a waste but they need a drink.

I think don't worry about how much milk as long as he is eating.
The health visitor told me u could purée meat but I've not tried it im still mostly using Ella's kitchen pouches to be honest they really like them, they r a bit more expensive so need to start making things soon as they r eating more.

The steroid cream we got is eumovate ointment. Hopefully I see a difference soon, she is trying to grab her feet all the time but doing that she is scratching her leg although I don't think she means it
