Lost twin at 9weeks pregnancy

Hi there,

Found out just after Xmas that we were having twins after having a FET (with one blasto I should add). Due to my history I have been scanned eavery week and have seen heartbeat at 6, 7 and 8 weeks. Today at 9 weeks only one baby had a heartbeat. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and gone on to have a healthy baby. I'm just so worried about my remaining baby. x

Bonnie also lost a twin very recently but her pregnancy is going well. I think she is a week ahead of you so may be able to put your mind at rest.

Whilst not nice, it's unfortunately not that uncommon.
I would guess that because of your scans it was noticed, however many parents never know there were 2 in there.

Known as Vanishing Twin Syndrome.

"A vanishing twin, also known as fetal resorption, is a fetus in a multi-gestation pregnancy which dies in utero and is then partially or completely reabsorbed by the mother or twin.
The occurrence of this phenomenon is sometimes referred to as twin embolisation syndrome or vanishing twin syndrome (VTS), since the 1980s when twin pregnancies were made visible early on by means of ultrasound." (Taken from wikipedia). I'm sure there are other more informed links out there.

Take care,

Mr C

Hello
Firstly I wanted to say how very sorry I am. I have been following your threads with great interest as I am about to start on FET with a single blasto.
I also wanted to mention that my first IVF was succesful with twins and I also lost one around 7 weeks, but, the other one is upstairs in her cot shouting at me because she doesnt want to go to bed, she wants to watch come outside. She is 18 months old. When we first found out we had lost one of our twins we consultated our IVF clinic and they said that it was common but is just diagnosed more because we have early scans due to going through IVF. Try not to worry, which I know is very easy to say but try and keep all your strength for your LO.

Once again I am very sorry for your loss x

Hello Morvc,
My AF has started today so I will start DR on day 21.
Regarding the NHS, I cant praise them enough as without an NHS consultant at the Queen Charlotte hospital I would never have tried IVF.
Isnt it nice that someone has gone the extra mile to see how you are doing.
Good luck x

Hi Verve,

I'm afraid it wasnt good news for me. I lost the other baby at 10 weeks and had a D&C last Monday. Was gutted. Cried constantly last week but better this week. Cant believe I had my 2 miracles and then lost them.....thats the end of IVF for me. Cant take any more emotionally. The white flag is up and I surrender! mx
