follicles

Hi all

Hi Lynn where abouts are you, im getting my treatment at Monklands. I must be around the same stage as you. My follicles decided to sleep this month (my first month on clomid and gonal f injections). I went for my scan on friday and the nurse said that she was just gonna give me the HCG injection, not sure how my follicles were but she said if she left me over the weekend it would be too late. Had another scan yesterday and she said the follicle had shrunk. Spent last night googling everything there seems to be a lot of stuff im unsure about.
so how are you getting on with your treatment.

Hi princess rebeka

i have just had my first cycle of clomid and gonal f injections. I got scanned to check follicles then got the HCG injection.
As i ovulated over the weekend i had to DIY!!!. As far as i know, they scan you to make sure you are ovulating then they
go ahead with the insemination

Hi ladies

PrincessRebekah-I felt sick for a few days before insem and put that down to the drugs I'd been injecting. They told me when to take the HCG injection (after a scan to confirm follies were big enough) but they did not scan before the insem to see whether I'd ovulated. I had 36 hours between the trigger and insem and on the morning of insem I had lots of CM (sorry TMI!) which I don't normally get much of and I believe that is a sign that ovulation is about to happen. The day after insem I had a few twinges in the evening and I think that might have been the egg releasing :). Re pessaries, I was advised to start them the day after insem and I've been doing one in the morning when I get up and one before bed. Be warned...they are very messy!

Worried-welcom to the 2ww. When is your OTD???

Stace-how are you feeling hun?

Lynn-Hope you're managing to stay positive hun.

PLH-I know you're probably taking a break away from here but just wanted to say I hope you're okay :xxx:

AFM-Day 6 of the 2ww and I haven't really had any symptoms, just sore boobs. I'm on constant knicker watch though...not sure why as it's far too early to look for signs that it hasn't worked!

Ah wicked, thanks hun! I've read lots about the dreaded pesseries! Not looking forward to those!

Can I ask a personal question... Did you [zx084] after insem?! I know people are given different advice, and not that I think it will make a difference in my case but im curious! ?(

Hi, Becky
I never had any scans on insem day as they are pretty much sure that you will ovulate 36 hours after the trigger. And yes, you start the pessaries AFTER insem, not before. A number of women are advised to BD after insem - or if not advised do it anyway as it feels more natural and personal than just having the insem. There is no reason not to do so...

Worried - the follicle usually shrinks once you have ovulated...

Wannabe - You are halfway there...

Hi wannabemum

I ovulated at the weekend, got the trigger shot on friday, thought i would just leave things to nature on saturday. On sunday i rushed to the shops to buy a kit. i used tested on sunday mid afternoon and it showed a positive ovulation line however by night i tested again and the line had fadded. Im hoping that i ovulated sat. As this is my first round of clomid and gonal f i will just need to wait and see. On my 2nd round of treatment the nurse said that they will up the dose.
how are you getting on?

Wow! It's busy on here today! Yay!

Rebekah, my experience was no scan on tx day and pessaries started the night of the insem.

Me and dh did BD day after inseam (he is azoo but as Rene said it makes it a bit more normal) I had some bleeding and panicked as the catheter must have annoyed something in there. Nurses said it is good to BD though, there's no reason not to!

Not long now till your insem! Whoo!

Lynn, how are you getting on? Have they confirmed on your tx yet this cycle?

Worried, well done on your injections! Welcome to the 2ww!

Wannabe, I'm okay today, still nothing to report on KW! Work keeping me busy! Xx

hiya Lynn

try to keep your chin up, i know its difficult. The nurse at Monklands gave me my date for my AF and told me to ring them when it arrives so i can get another scan, they will increase my treatment. How many injections do you take. i had mine on days 5, 7, 9. Do you have to inect more??? On reading others responses it seems Monklands give patients bigger doses of treatment ie clomid and gonal F at the same time!

Hey

Had my insem. DF got there at 8.30 to do his bit then we went back at 11.30. Had the iui about 12.30 and it didn't go as smoothly as I expected.

The struggled to get the catheter in and it was quite uncomfortable. She was there quite a while but finally did it. I did bleed quite a bit too but the same thing happened with my smear and HSG! She didn't seem worried though.

Start pessaries tonight, I test on 26th august so 16 days time il know how we did! I'm now just having a lie down and trying to relax. I'm pretty tired so might have a sleep!

Oh and she said DF sperm count was 33milion and that we needed 5 million for it to have a good chance of working so I'm happy with that! :-) I don't know if that's pre or post wash though! X

No hun it didn't hurt at all just a little uncomfortable. Some people spot blood and others have nothing but it was certainly easier than the injections and only felt like a little bit of period cramping. You'll be fine hun x

Hi, Becky - Congrats on being PUPO

Worried - most people feel nothing having the insem done. I certainly didn't have any problems and no discomfort at all. The worst thing you can do is tense up when it is done - as with any procedure...
Also, the blood is not stacks (according to what I have read) - just a bit of spotting and much less than a period so you should not have any trouble with that either... Unless you faint when AF arrives?

I agree, very much like period cramps, like a pressure in your lower stomach. Very strange! Not as bad as the smear I had last time anyway!! (but it was a bloke who did it and he was about 70!!! ) :snigger: Worried, honestly its not painful just a bit uncomfortable! You'll honestly be fine! It's nothing compared to the injections i found. xx

So sorry lynn!! Whats the next steps for you? Im not sure what happens if they stop it mid cycle. [zx127] Do you start again next cycle? hopefully next time theyll change your doses xx

Wanabe, I'm feeling fine! Having horrible sharp pains all on my right side but im convinced its more like trapped wind that anything else. :O :snigger: I'm very very bloated today though! Again I dont think thats to do with the insem.

Thanks Rene!

Hey buds

They r reducing my dose nxt cycle bits just a case of waiting on af. If no sign in 3 weeks then they will get me in scan me and take bloods to see if they can continue. I've been advised to abstain as risk of multiples if I ovulate r too high. Am I heck abstaining but problem is I don't ovulate normally so don't know if I will coz of size of follies or if I would really need trigger. I guess we will soon see.

Big hugs ladies I'm totally bummed at the minute!!

Hi girls, sorry I havent been on for a while, just needed a bit of space.

Stacey - Im so so sorry it hasn't worked for you. Sending u a massive hug and look after urself [zx127]

Worried1 - the dreaded 2ww...it seems like youve got something to take ur mind off it a little, when do you get married?

Gizzi - I dnt blame you not abstaining, neither would i.

Rebekah - how are you feeling now? have the pains eased off a bit? Great that uve had it done though, very excited for you!

Wannabemum - got my fingers crossed for you. Not be long til otd xfingers

AFM - on cd5 at the mo, in the middle of taking my clomid and my first scan is on wed afternoon, so if its the same as last time i may have the insem done on Friday. Its strange cos it only seemed 5 minutes that i had it done last time and now its on with the second.

Hi, to anyone ive missed, so many comments since i was last on! xx

PHL - just posted a reply to you n the 2ww thread but have just seen here that you have already started your next cycle! That's fantastic news and I really hope it won't be long before insem. I agree it does seem starnge how quickly you can go from cycle to cycle but I think that's a good thing if you're happy to do it as it feels like your actually getting on and doing something to achieve your dream :)

Worried-I hope you have loads of fun this weekend. Planning my wedding was one the best things I have ever done (and marrying my DH of course  ). When are you getting married???

thanks ladies for your kind words... I am okay I suppose, it is sad but I have come to get used to that result.

I am losing faith in the entire iui treatment, nurses, consultants and all. Noone has even considered trying me on meds prior to the iui, despite me asking, although other ladies on here of similar age, and with PCO too, so are equally at risk to overstimming are just on low doses... surely it helps just align the cycle a bit more, as this is my main problem. I know Ailly was exactly the same, had the meds and concieved 1st time.

I just can't believe (and I know what they will say - "normal" couples can take up to a year, they will have intercourse more than once on day of ovulation and around cycle etc) but seriously - not one of the multiple million little buggars managed to find its way to my egg and settle in my uterus... 5 times now!

surely something else is up. I have a call with the nurse on Monday once utrogestan is out of my system so they can review my notes and we can decide what to do.

I would love to do ICSI/IVF instead, maybe donating some of my eggs to another couple who need them, like we need help with the swimmers, but at my last review before this cycle, my consultant would not entertain it - he just told me to be patient. And the other angle of course is that we do not have £4k plus kicking about.

Oh well, no point sitting in self pity street, need to get on with it as there's no way we can ever conceive naturally.

PLH - that's the spirit, back on the IUI wagon - how's the meds going?

Gizzi - I hope you get lucky!

Worried, wannabe and Rebekah, all the luck in the world for your OTDs!

Hi all,
i get married in May, everything is happening at once, ie my treatment, wedding, new post at work.

stace try not too lose faith. I know its hard. I had a lap dye done in july last year to be told i am "unexplained". All seems normal with me and my other half. I fell preggers in Augst but mc in october. Everyone kept telling me that i would probably fall preggers again soon as i would be more fertile, but it never happened. At the time i felt like telling them all to p*** off. (bad of me). I am a lot older and ttc my first i think my age has a lot to do with it.

Hi Lisa and welcome to the IUI thread :)

I expect that one you've had your appointmaent with the nurse you will just have to wait for your AF to arrive but I may be wrong if you have been referred for funded IUI as I know there can be waiting lists for tx.

I've just been through my first round of treatment and insem. I was unsure about it all and very nervous but now I've done it once I'll know what to expect next time (if it doesn't work first time round). I have to say it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be! I got DH to do the injections and the insem was just a little uncomfortable.

As for success stories there is one lady who pops in ocassionly and it worked first time for her  :|

morning all

Hi Liza, im just new to all this also. i have just had my first round of iui although did not get the insem as my treatment ran into the weekend, so i cant comment on that. Ive still to experience this which im scared of but lots of support on this site.

I had to wait till AF arrived then started taking clomid and injections on day 5, 7 and 9. I am such a wimp at jags so bought some emla cream online to numb the area. My other half was unable to take time off work so my mum came to one of my appointments and gave me my injection. Im terrified of jags but have to agree with others it isnt that bad over with in seconds. Hope this is of some help

Hi girls,
How is everyone doing? Just had a great couple of hours seeing a friend, the only friend i can actully tell about any of this and its been great to offload some stuff and get some reassurance. However, its kinda put things in perspective cos she has severe health problems and has now been told she needs kidney transplants but her immune system is so low at the minute, she wouldnt survive. Such a lovely person as well, life can be very cruel.

Lisa - welcome to the thread. Ive only had 1 iui so far but i had to wait for af as it had to be a new cycle so i could start the medication. I too was worried about the injection but i promise that whatever u think of it now, divide that by 50 and thats how u will feel - no where near as bad as u think.

Stacey - I really do feel for you. I know i have only had 1 failed iui but i had very similar thought.....all the millions of sperm and i had several eggs...why the hell didnt it work...and convinced myself there has got to be more problems. I told the nurse this and she said the same as she had said before..about the average couple blah blah blah...but then went on to explain about embryo quality etc. From the women they perform ivf on...the majority of the eggs that are fertilised do not materialise into a good quality embroyo and would never survive, she puts this down to nature. She said this will be the case whether u are ttc naturally or through treatment. So this got me thinking about whether or not this could be where i have been going wrong, maybe things have been fertilised but its not been strong enough to develope further. Im not sure how you can improve the quality though. I would request further tests to see if there are any other issues and go from there. I wish you all the luck Stacey xfingers

Wannabemum - How are you feeling now? When is ur OTD?

Worried - how lovely, not long now...i get married in June 2013. Seemed ages away when we booked but seems to be coming round quickly now!

Rebekah - how are you doing hun?

Take my last clomid tonight yaaaaay  ive also been taking evening primrose this cycle for the first time...has anybody else used this? Im also going to ask about the progesterone some of you are getting. Although im not sure they will give me it as when they have done my 21 day bloods my levels have been like 130 so not sure if i need it xx

Hi girls!

Lph, yeah I agree. I have been seeing an acupuncturist to try and get nice big healthy follies. I think I will also start taking royal jelly as this is meant to help with follie quality. It is a beggar, it is literAlly a one shot hope for us as dh has azoo and therefore we can't bd around cycle to improve number of sperm etc. Hopefully I will only need one more go!! :-)

Wannabe, only a few more days! Everything crossed for you!

Lisa, welcome! I hope you like this site, it has certainly helped my sanity on several occasions! Good luck with your I. I hope you can get started quickly.

Hi to everyone else starting treatment or on the 2ww... We need some more bfps to help perk us up!

Afm, I called the nurse yesterday to tell her about my bfn and she said to stop taking the progesterone as this will be holding my period off. If nothing by Monday night, test again Tuesday but she actually said 'if for some reason you do get a bfp then we'll start you back on the pessaries, if not we'll review your notes and discuss next steps' so I took from that that It would be very unusual for me to get a late bfp. We'll see.

Hi everyone I have missed!! X

Morning Lisa! In terms of timings, iui is normally just your normal cycle length. Maybe they want to do a trial run, with just the meds first to see how you respond, so when they do the one with the insem, they can tweak this to get it right. I would ask about that at you appt, whether that would be one of your funded cycles if you are having nhs funding.
I can't comment on the meds as I've always been told I shouldn't need them, but hopefully that will change for my next go.

From what I understand, hot sweats come from having an oestrogen dominance, and with the meds they give you, this blocks the oestrogen so it should help balance the hormones in your cycle, letting your body concentrate on growing the follies. The other girls should be able to let you know.

Afm, still no af... I just want to get started on another cycle! Xx

Morning ladies

Lisa-Your cycle should be pretty much the same length as normal when doing IUI, give or take a couple of days. The main side of effects of the drugs for me came from the trigger shot as this made my boobs more tender than they've ever been but didn't really notice anything else particularly. As for the 2ww, I haven't found it too bad up until now....I've started to think about it more over the last couple of days and keep having positive highs and negative lows. I don't want to get my hopes up as I really don't want to be disappointed

Stace-any sign of AF yet hun??? Have you decided to give IUI one last go? If it's funded I think you should go for it!

PLH-great to hear you're back on the IUI wagon again so quickly!!! When is your scan to see how your follies are doing? I would ask about pessaries just to see what your clinc says as my progesterone levels have always been fine too but they still gave me them.

Well, only 2 days to go now eeekkkk!!! Not sure whether to test before work or after though.

I know what u mean wannabe. U want to test first thing coz ur desperate to know but whether it's a yes or no it will be impossible to concentrate at work. But if u wait til night time u will spend all day wondering thus not concentrating anyway. So I think u should do it in the morning.

Need some advice ladies. I'm unofficially in a 2ww. I decided no to abstain. I have no idea whether I ov or not. The thing is since sat my boobs have been sore and sensitive. I've never had this b4 except after I was triggered last time. I wasn't triggered this time. Granted my boobs were uber sore after trigger this time I remember they're sore if I accidentally brush against them.

Any ideas? Xxx

Hi all

Lynn i agree with rebeka i dont think you can second guess anything. i can get sore breasts around time af. It is so annoying with this wait. I seem to be going to the toilet more than usual.

I have a wee question also: when my next af arrives i have to go back to get scanned again, i thought this was a bit weird and really dont fancy it but can they scan you while you are having your af?? i mean its embarrasing enough sitting in that position having someone studding you but to go through all that while on your af?

They have only done that to me once it's not nice but some clinics do it routinely on cd 2/3. It's surprisingly not that bad. U really do leave ur dignity at the door!! Xxxx

Hi ladies, well hope you're all doing well!

Lynn, hopefully your having some pregnancy symptoms, but like the other ladies say, you really cant tell!

2ww ladies, hang in there and wishing you lots of love and luck!

Hi everyone else!

I am getting back on the wagon, with a very expensive medicated cycle!!! We had our 1st 3 on the nhs but have paid for the last 2. The dr agrees that I can have a medicated cycle to increase chances for us and monitor things a bit more closely! So I'll have my scan this week and meds induction and then will be back in for another cycle. I just have to hope that it doesn't make me ov too early as if so, it will be the bank hol and we'll lose our money and tx will be abandoned. What's everyone's experience of the meds? Do they just make more follies or does it make you ov a lot earlier than a normal cycle? X
