Well we had our scan on Monday and all is going well with bean. Wriggling away as should be. We will keep an eye on baby size as he/she is slightly behind the dates by about 4-5 days and with my minimal weight gain so far. Doc says is more important my weight gain later in pregnancy. I know that we show earlier after first pregnancy but my bump is already really, really big!! I do love it but am going to be quite large in the bump area!!

How's everyone else doing?! Xx

Hi Heather, glad your scan went okay. I wouldn't be worried baby is a few days behind. Measurements are only a rough guess, if you ask around & ask other women that have had a growth scan for example & have been told a weight 9 out 10 times the weight is completly wrong!
Ive put on a stone since i was weighed during my FET & most of that weigh thas gone on my bum & thighs :whistling: I think my bump is about right for 23 weeks. Are you on facebook perhaps we could compare bumps ;)

Crashing the thread! My DD always measured a few days behind, try not to worry. They told me she was 6lb 9 at 36 weeks and she was only 6.6lb at birth!

Weight gain

Hi all,

On the subject of weight gain are your clinics monitoring your weight at all? Everything I've read on twin pregnancies is that you should have put around 24lbs on by 24weeks. No one has weighed me so far and I'm 19+3 today and gained around 8-9 lbs. Uterus is measuring around 24 weeks but got nothing else to go off. The thought of carrying this bump with extra weight does not appeal to me at all! 20 week scan on Wednesday so will ask then but just wondering what your experiences are?

Hope everyone is well xx

Ginger bean I can't remember exactly how much I put on with the twinnies but was between 1 and a half stone and 2 stone. It was less than was stated.

Thanks Net I really should know how unreliable the scan measurements are because with the twins I was told they'd be over 7 lbs each but were only 4 and 5 lbs when born so way way off!! I guess I just think with one in there it should be more accurate!!

Rachel it is a bit of weird thing the weight gain as last time round with my L I put on loads of weight really early on whereas this time has been different and don't think I really ate that much more last time although i am more conscious of it this time so maybe subconsciously I am eatting less. Having said that I am up 2 cups sizes making me completely huge and think I will need a new sizing soon! Completely comedy boobs. My DH loves it :snigger:

I am with you on the boobs heather! Mine have gone from a C to an E cup! I wouldn't mind if they looked nice but the combination of extremely white skin and bright blue veins everywhere I look like a road map! I bought maternity bras at 16 weeks but now they are too small but I really don't want to spend any more money on them! I really begrudged forking out for the least attractive underwear you could ever wish to see!

Great news about your 20 week scan. It's a big milestoneto get over and great they are both measuring just as they are meant to be.

Rachel I like hitting the 24 week point as it's very reassuring point to that point.

We are 19+1 and truthfully am feeling no to little movement that might be our wee one. Glad to have the doppler for reassurance. Sometimes bean likes to hide his/her hb but can hear the movement. Reckon it is just the postion they are lying in but I love to feel the movements just want it to hurry up. It is so very strange how every pregnancy is so different. I had so much feelings by week 14 last time and now nothing by this stage this time!!

Wheres your plancenta Heather? My bump used to like to hide every time i did her heartbeat, its like they sit right at the back of us making the heartbeat harder to found & sounds very echoey...... You wait your wake up & think wow ive just felt baby, popping is what i felt first - im sure your be feeling it soon.

I have major bad cravings for lemon meringue pie , i have to eat half in the evening & the other half after breakie :whistling:

You are hilarious Rachel. I would never eat lemon meringue as I don't like sweet stuff. I'm a savioury girl!! Only thing I love at the mo is pints of water with massives of ice.

My placenta is high and at the back so no issues that way but last scan bean was lying transverse with legs pointing downwards which might explain why I get sharp pains every so often down below when I'm getting kicked I reckon. I know they will come. Think because this is definitely our last pregnancy I'm feeling a little sad about that and want to have those kicks for as long as possible.

Hi ladies, about 15w now so just popping in to say hello! nausea been worse past couple of weeks and sick for first time on Sunday so bump seems to be busy! Normally keep the sickness at bay with copious amounts of cheese but left it too long without a snack the other day and ended up bursting a blood vessel in my eye - not a good look!Talking bumps, I've well and truly popped this week! Trying to keep it quiet at work till scan next week but getting harder by the day... Hubby called me the Incredible Hulk the other day as I ripped the seems in my coat! Haven't tried lemon meringue pie for breakfast but apple crumble works for me!

Highlander that sounds awful, you must have been really sick to burst a blood vessel. Hope it has eased off and you feel a bit better. I also feel I'm expanding by the minute too, get the feeling Im going to be huge. I told my work colleagues on Thursday and they said they had already guessed by my increasing waist line! . I needed to get a new uniform as my other one didn't fit when I went back after my holiday. Not told them it's twins yet though, don't feel brave enough for that yet.
Have you started to buy stuff yet? I'm looking at loads of stuff online but still feel uneasy about buying things although I'm dying to! ^^ x

Hi clarabel, still feeling yuk but eating round the clock so not been sick since Sunday thankfully. Bar a couple of bleeding episodes, my first trimester went pretty well so guess it's just body adjusting to real hormones, not the tablet/pessaries induced ones. Said we wouldn't even look at baby stuff till at least 20 week scan but regularly find myself looking at nursery furniture and mentally sizing up the bedroom where things will go! (All being well, wee one will be in with us for first few months I think). Can't bring myself to buy anything yet though, part of me still doesn't believe it's really happening - I'm still on knicker watch at 15 weeks! Hence being strangely happy about feeling crap - I take it to be a good sign - but looking forward to scan on Tuesday to confirm that's the case...

Hi ladies, still not 100% sure what it is myself tbh! Sonographer tried to explain it but I didn't really follow and they don't seem too bothered at the moment. As far as I understand its a kind of thick membrane running from one side of placenta to the other side - a very clear line on scan. the term "abdominal band" actually covers sheets and folds and other variations besides true "bands". The bands themselves are pretty rare but can cause problems for baby if he gets tangled (can cut blood supply causing deformities, amputations, early labour or even death if it goes round neck or cord) BUT nothing to suggest that's the case at this stage, there was nothing on last scan (10+6) and it might get pushed to the side as baby grows, or disappear altogether. Back for another scan in 4 weeks so will see how things are looking then. got midwife next week so will see if she knows anything about it, or can explain a bit more.

Hey ladies hope your all doing well. Highlander I have never heard of that either, but it sounds like all is well with wee one anyway, but I can imagine when they say things like that anxieties rise.
I was going to ask if any of you ladies have a Doppler. My cousin got one when she was pregnant and said she would give me it.. I'm not sure If it would make me even more obsessed than I already am right enough, or even if you would pick heartbeat up at 14 weeks with it.

Hi ladies, hope you are all well. Can't believe I'm actually onto the 2nd trimester thread lol!

Clarabel, I got a doppler this week. It was just a cheap one from Amazon. So far I haven't been able to find the baby's heartbeat and it is stressing me a bit. I kinda wish I hadn't bought it cos now I just have one more thing to worry about! It's probably just too early and I'm sure if you can find it it is very reassuring. I've decided to leave it a week before I try again. Let me know how you get on if you get one! x

Hi Ashastar! It probably is just too early, and I suppose it's knowing where to put it to have best chance to hear. It sounded good at the time when she offered me it but when I thought about it I realised I could be setting myself up for stress I don't need. Ladies dipoles xan be fantastic but you are both too early. You need to wait until at least 16 weeks to be able to hear the hb and even then you may not always find it. It'll probably be very lowdown below your bumps that you will find it. I do love mine but it can take a while to find the hb even when you're further along.

In the meantime try not to stress. I'm sure all is good xx

Hi ladies, how's everyone doing? Hope that infection cleared up heather x

Had second appt with midwife yesterday and heard bumps heartbeat [zx126] Was so great to hear, we've had 4 scans now but first time I've heard him/her, was really strong for a while then disappeared so guess he/she still able to move about ok. Was debating about a Doppler too but wouldn't trust myself to ration it!

Midwife said I'll be induced at 39 weeks absolute max, but could be anything after 36... Almost half way!

lots of stretchy pains this week (trying to avoid sneezing at all costs!) and bumps def growing but loving it, keep looking at belly and grinning like mad woman! Would be nice not to feel so sick but hey ho, small price to pay I suppose. And, as long as I keep eating at least every hour I'm not physically sick so could be worse. Went to yoga the other day, teacher was lovely, gave me alternative poses when class ones weren't suitable, and kept running over with extra blocks and props! Been so scared to do anything since 2ww, but starting to trust myself a bit more and realise it'll be better for both of us in long run if I move about more. Looking forward to longer days, I'm such a couch potato in the winter!

Hope you're all keeping well x

Hi ladies, good to be back on line and see how you are all doing. Highlander that's great you heard wee ones heart beat, how lovely ! Not so good that your still feeling sick, but I know what you mean about it being a small price to pay. It just feels rotten at the time. I've been thinking about yoga or Pilates too because I'm really missing my usual exercise so might look into that.
Heather, hope your chest infections cleared up!
I had my 15 week scan and consultant appt yesterday. Wee ones are measuring well and are definitely identical and share a placenta so will be scanned every 2 weeks but no concerns at moment. My uterus is measuring 4 weeks ahead and I am huge! Wonder if it's the steroids that's giving me extra girth because I can't stop eating lol. Hope your alll doing great! xx

Hi ladies, good to see everyone is doing well. The time seems to be flying in!

I hadn't had a scan or midwife appointment since my dating scan at 11 weeks and I'm not due another scan until 20 weeks which was making me go slightly mad in case something is wrong. I'm kinda jealous of you Clare getting scanned every 2 weeks! I really think after having fertility treatment we should get more attention considering how anxious we all are. Anyway, I gave in and booked a private scan which I had this morning. It was amazing and baby is perfect! The scan was so much better than the nhs one and we were able to get a really good look at baby and got loads of photos. They offered to tell us the sex but although my husband wants to know I want to keep it a surprise a bit longer so declined to find out. Baby seems very active and was down somersaults constantly! So glad I went, am totally buzzing now!

Hey Ahastar, your right that does seem quite a while to wait even for a bit of reassurance. I'm glad your scan today went well but such a pity you had to pay for it. We are pretty much due at the same time I think if I remember right? That's good they were prepared to tell you the sex, I'm so excited to know what these 2 are, I always said I wouldn't want to know but that has changed since I found out it is twins and now I just want to be organised. I was laughing with my man today because I said I wanted to book a 4d scan that is on special offer, he finds it hysterical since I'm getting so many scans but I think they scans are so detailed and amazing. Crazy I know. What have I become?! ^^ xx

Hi Clare, to be honest I didn't even care that I had to pay for the scan lol. I felt it was worth every penny to take away some of my worry. It was also much clearer and more detailed than the normal hospital ones. If I'd more money I'd have one every week lol so I know exactly what you mean about wanting to book a 4d one! They gave us a preview of 4d yesterday and even a photograph of baby's face. I always said I wouldn't bother about having one but now I'm kinda tempted! Based on baby's measurements they've given me 30th July as my due date so yes, I think we're due around the same time. So exciting!

I'm so glad it reassured you and I'm sure it was so worth the money for peace of mind. I've looked the past few days at 4d packages and I'm definitely going to get one. I figure I'm probably only going to do this once so may as well be crazy and do all this stuff
The due date they gave me was the 31st July but they have told me that if I get to 36 weeks I'll likely have a planned caesarian and will be given a date nearer the time. Here's hoping I do get to 36 weeks. I really hope you feel a bit more relaxed after your scan! xx

Clarabel just to reassure you hun a little I had a planned section at 37 weeks with my twins and to be honest I could have made it longer. I'm lucky I kept really well apart from ending up with cankles and then thighankles near the end but just because you are having twins does not necessarily mean that you will automatically deliver early.

Hoping you are all keeping well.

We had our big scan on Monday and all is looking perfect with bean. Asked my mum to come with us to the scan so she really appreciated seeing bean. We are not finding out what we are having this time although ,y hubby is dying to find out but when doc was measuring thigh bone length and was down round the bits area I didn't see any sign of boy bits. Having said that it means nothing as doc knows we do not want to find out so think she would try to hide it. I do reckon as we have 3 girls already that we will probably have another girlie but we will see!!

Sorry I just realised my whole reply has not posted. Really great your scan went well and how lovely your mum got to go along. and well done for having the will power and not finding out the sex! Oh hun you must be so worried. There are loads of tests/scans they can do to check your placenta. I hope it is just your bump misbehaving on you. I remember so well just before we had the twins one of them had really reduced movement and when we had a scan they couldn't find he rhb or any movement. Trace was done then and all was ok after a while. They never could find a cause but it really did scare the life out of me.

Am thinking of you xx

Hi everyone
I haven't had chance to read through all recent posts but Rachel I really hope everything's okay and your scan went well.

I'm 13+2 with twins, can I join you ladies on here or is it too early?

I had a scare tonight as went to the loo (sorry tmi) and saw a few drops of blood in the bowl afterwards. There wasn't any when I wiped so not sure whether I should be worried. My tummy has been heavy and for a few days now so think I probably need to see GP tomorrow. Has anybody had anything like this?
Sorry again for tmi

Hi Tab it's really good to see you on second tri board! Was just thinking about you earlier. Maybe your tummy is starting to feel heavy because your into second trimester and will be getting bigger and starting to change even more inside. Are you in any pain? Quite a few us on here have had wee scares with bleeding/spotting but everything has been fine but phone tomorrow for advice so that you can be reassured everything is ok. xx
