Risks of flying during the 2ww?

We (everyone at our clinic, not me specifically) have been advised not to travel until we know the result of the pregnancy test after the 2ww. They did, howver, say that we could travel if we must and that there was no evidence to suggest flying is detrimental.

I am working in a different country to the one I am having treatment and need to come back during the 2ww, soon after embryo transfer (if we even get that far)

I am just wondering if any of you who are having or have had treatment abroad were given any advice about this issue and whether anyone has had a successful cycle despite travelling.

TIA
Chava

Hichava. I was never told not to fly during my 2ww, and have done a few times which my clinic told me was fine. In hindsight, I would probably have stayed put if it was non urgent, but as your clinic said, there is nothing to say it's detrimental.

I suppose, lots and lots of girls go to Spain, eastern Europe etc to have their treatment and fly home straight after transfer and get bfps so it cannot be all that bad for you and bubs.

Hey

I had to fly the day after my ET since I went to Spain for treatment and had to get home. I was not told it would be detremental and as Deedee says, lots of us have been abroad and gone on to have successful tx and pregnancies.

On a cycle where I had a FET, my doctors pretty much told me to get on a plane! I was really stressed out, and my doctors reckoned that if going away for a couple of weeks would cheer me up, then they were all for it. It ended up being a mad rush to get the transfer done in time because we'd booked the flight in advance, but otherwise all was fine.

Chava,

I had tx in Spain and flew back to UK the day afterwards (including having to run at top speed between gates at the airport). Tx was successful, and nobody told me it would be detrimental to fly during 2WW.

Hope this helps

travelling after transfer

Hello Chava

I had a successful DEIVF done Seville and flew back two days after.
I was very careful to only take a tiny suitcase on wheels so I checked in online, did not have to queue then or at the carroussel after the flight and I sat down during boarding , being the last one to go in but again avoiding to standing up. I took my shoes off, drank water and chilled with a good book.

I cross my fingers for your cycle!

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far.

I had pretty much convinced myself that it would be OK to fly, but I flew yesterday for my DR scan and got worried again because I started bleeding again after stopping my AF the day before.

It could be completely unconnected of course but I have read on a different board that some people were saying that flying made them get their AF at a different time that they exected it.

I am glad and encouraged to hear that some of you have gone on to have successful cycles after flying though! I now have to decide whether to take a 2 hour flight or a day and a half on a train.

Do whichever is going to be the least stressful for you hun. If a train could break down or be delayed you'd much prefer to be on a plane! I also think about the countless women who get pg on holidays and never know about it. They fly home oblivious

Can you not stay put for say 48-72hrs following transfer and then make your way home?

Good Luck xxxx

Hi Chava, I stayed one night after my tx abroad and flew back the next. I'm now pregnant. There was a long queue at the airport so I asked staff if I could jump the queue because I'd just had treatment. They were happy to let me to the front of the queue! Cathy xxx
