Starting Clomid, very confused by NHS....help!

Hi everyone,

I Have just found this forum, which looks great, so much info!

I wonder if anyone can clarify a few things for me, pleeeeease.

I have recently been perscribed clomid after TTC for 18mnths with no joy, and no OV according to bloods (levels showed between 2 and 4)

I saw a specialist, whom to be honest was totally useless, nearly everything he told me was incorrect, he tried to tell me I was overweight at 9stone and 5ft7, which I am not, then he said my levels were normal and I was ovulating, which was also untrue as i think the level has to be 25 or over to idicate ovulation....i may be wrong!

Anyway, he perscribed me clomid at 50mg, but has given me 2 months worth and advised me to take them every other month as the drug will be just as effective in the 'inbetween' months as on the month it is taken.....has anyone heard of this before? It seems most unusual to me, according to what I can see on the net!

I have had no follow up appointment, bloodys, scans or anything booked, just an appointment for feb2011 if not PG by then. Surely with no mintoring there is no way of knowing if the clomid is working?

Any experiances of procedures would be great

Thanks in advance....

Hmmm this doesnt sound right to me either, when i asked my cons about taking a month off clomid he advised against it as he said the clomid is more effective taken continuously with no break (although some people do take a break then pick up in a few months) he also said they look for levels of over 25-30 to show ovultion. A result of 2-4 is no ovulation ive had these results myself!
You really should at the very least have bloods done, my cons wont do bloods but i sort of backdoored this and rang my gp and i get bloods done by them sneaky :snigger:

Welcome!

I hope you like it on here, we have very friendly and supportive members that are sure to make your TTC journey that little bit easier, I hope you feel right at home with us all soon.

It sounds to me that you have not been given good advice or treatment at all, can you speak to your GP and ask to be seen by a different consultant? Have you had any tests done before you were given Clomid?

Here are some links that you may find useful.

There is an abbreviations section HERE so you know what we're all going on about.

There is a ** GETTING STARTED - FZ FACTS, TIPS & HELP ** thread HERE this contains everything you need to know about getting started on FZ. We would appreciate it too if you could take a quick look over our brief terms of the site HERE so you can familiarise yourself with the one or two small rules we have, which help to keep FZ the safe and friendly site it is!

There is a ** NEW TO THE SITE? A BIT LOST? POST FOR HELP HERE!!! ** thread HERE where you can post any questions you have about how to use the site, a team member will answer you as soon as possible!

There is a how to search thread HERE so you can get the maximum benefit from the forum.

There is a clomid and ovulation induction section HERE so you can get to know others on clomid and ride the clomid roller coaster together.

There is a CLOMID CHICKS CHAT thread HERE where all the clomid girls hang out and support each other.

There is a general fertility section HERE there is tonnes of information there that you may find helpful and will answer some of your questions.

There is a general fertility FAQ section HERE which contains lots of guides to different aspects of fertility.

And finally!! Have you seen that lots of our members have fancy names in their signatures? If you’re interested in having something similar it’s really easy to do. Have a look HERE to choose a style. If there isn't one you like there, let us know the kind of thing you'd like and we'll try and create one for you.

Because the running of the site completely depends on the kindness of our members, we ask for a small donation in return for a signature name, which is explained HERE. Hang around a bit and get to know us before you decide if you'd like to support us!

If you have any questions about anything, just ask.

Hi Pringles and welcome to FZ

From what you've said, I am seriously not impressed with the way you've bene treated. Was it a fertility specialist you saw? Like Eeyore said I think you need to have a chat with your GP about getting another referral. Was it just the ovulation/progesterone tests you had? Has your DH had his sperm tested? You really need to be monitored on clomid and simply being told to come back in Feb next year is not good enough. Have a read through the links above too as they'll give you a better understanding of things and come back to us if you have questions you want advice on.

mmmmmmm def doesnt sound right When I first took Clomid in 2006 I got the same advice strange the situation mine and yours the same my result was 2 not ovulating and because I stopped the clomid after a month 50mg nothing result was from 2 to 5 I think, now in 2008 I think it was I took 3 months of Clomid and the 4th monbth I was to stop for 1 month in which I did ovulate then I carried on with another 3 months of clomid, So I am no doctor but if you have never been on meds and they starting you now 1 month of clomid and then stop in my opinion will have no point.
