Approximately 10% of travellers were seeking fertility treatment.
Services, treatments and costs can differ hugely from the UK and between countries. Travellers are advised to carry out thorough research and preparation prior to travel and ensure that they fully understand the potential risks of seeking treatment overseas.
Comprehensive travel insurance is essential with a full declaration made to the insurers of any medical conditions and the nature of treatment.
It is essential to ensure that you receive a contract with the clinic or hospital which clearly documents what happens in the event of complications arising from treatment. Some countries may not have legislation relating to medical malpractice. You should find out if this is the case before you sign and check that your contract details what to do if you have a complaint.
Travel vaccinations may be required. Hepatitis B vaccination is recommended for those travelling abroad for medical treatment as infection control and blood transfusion standards can vary.
