Testing at Hammersmith

Hi,

I wanted to see if anyone has managed to get a level 1 test from IVF Hammersmith?
Do you just ask for it and they do it?
Then if they find anything they give you medication for it?

Also, how does it work with the level 2 test, as I believe, skimming through some threads, that it's only available privately.
Do they communicate with your clinic or do you then have to become a private patient.
Will they only do a level 2 test if you have your treatment (ICSI in my case) through them?

Please excuse my ignorance, I've only just stumbled across this immunology stuff the other day through someone elses thread, who recommended Alan Beers' book to someone who had yet another BFN.
I'm sure they don't cover what IVF Hammersmith offer in the book!

Hi VaVaVoom, I see you haven't got a response to your question yet. You could try changing the subject of your message perhaps and then post it again? I've got a feeling that you can get Level 1 tests on the NHS and can be referred by your GP, but someone may correct me on this. I know that the Level 2 tests are very expensive. Wishing you lots of luck! Cathy x

hi there

I dont know about Hammersmith being a Yorkshire Lass, but I know some ladies have had their level 1 tests carried out by their GP. Its certainly worh asking.

If you are not sure what you should be asking for, here are a list

However before you have Immune tests LEVEL 2 - there is LEVEL 1 which you can have FREE on the nhs, done by your fertility clinic or you can request your gp to have the tests done.

The following level 1 tests are.

Karyotyping for DH and you (tests for any genetic issues)
Sperm assays and investigations - including DNA fragmentation testing

Uterine investagations should be done to make sure everything is ok.

Hysteroscopy, HSG etc. to check for scarring, fibroids, polyps etc
Thin lining, no triple stripe etc.
Doppler - to check blood flow in uterus

More level 1 tests -

Insulin resistance (fasting glucose test)
Thyroid levels (TSH, T3, T4)
Anti Nuclear Antibodies
Anti thyroglobulin
Anti-thyroid antibodies
Full Blood count
ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation rate)
RA (Rheumatoid Arthritis)

BLOOD CLOTTING PANEL (Thrombophilia panel)

Serum Immunoglobulins (IgG, IgM and IgA)
Activated Protein C Resistance
Factor V Leiden genotype
Anti Phospholipid Antibodies
Lupus Anticoagulant
Anti Cardiolipin Antibodies
Plasma Free Protein S level
Factor II G20210A
Prothrombin Gene Mutation
Antithrombin III M
Fibrinogen level
APTT (Activited Partial Thromboplastin Time)
APTR

MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) and connected with this is measurement of your homocysteine levels

BACTERIAL

Mycoplasma,
Ureaplasma
Bacterial vaginosis
Chlamydia and any other bacterial infections
Varicella Zoster antibodies

Progesterone
Fsh
LH

As for Level 2 testing, you need to self refer to a IVF clinic (or private doctor who does testing) and just write to them with your history and say you want Level 2 Chichago immunology testing. Some places will only test if you are having IVF with them (Care) whereas others (ARGC) will test you anyway.

The tests cost aprox £1000 and you will have to also pay for your consultaion (aprox £150-250 depeneding on clinic and doctor).

Level 2 are expensive but not as expensive as IVF. If you have a problem (as I do, I have DQ alpha match) then there is no point doing the IVF without the correct treatment, you would be throwing good money after bad.

Ahhhh thanks BraveGirl and Cathy.
I called my fertility clinic and enquired about the level 1 test, but they didn't have a clue what I was talking about!
Maybe I need to take your list to the GP, let's hope they understand.

as you are in london if you cant get any joy from your GP ( and i suggest you go see them with the list and ask for the tests) then you can pay for them privately somewhere like ARGC. you need to find a fertility specialist who support immune therapies , the NHS ones tend not to (even if you are a private patient).
