RE: Are all the results good???

Hi Kel,

Volume: 3.5 ml / Viscosity: Normal / pH: 8 -
All normal and reassuring.

Density: 58 x 10 6/ml / % Mobility: 71% / a:22% b:41% c:8% d:29% / Progression: 3/4 -
Good sperm concentration and motility (both %age and quality).

%Abnormals: 86% -
There are two criteria for classifying sperm morphology (the shape and size of sperm heads and tails) - the older WHO classification, by which around 30 - 70% abnormalities is seen as the normal range; and the more recent Kruger Strict Morphology, where the normal range is closer to 80 - 92%. So according to which classification was being used, DF's result of 86% is either slightly raised or normal. And even %age abnormalities much greater than the normal range frequently get pregnancies naturally and by IVF and ICSI.

Debris: + / -
Common in semen specimens, it always helps to pass urine before doing his specimen as this washes out cellular debris from the seminal tract which would otherwise would have appeared in his semen specimen.

Cells: < 1 x 10 5/ml -
Good result.

Agglutination: Normal / MAR (lgG) Test : Neg -
Agglutination and the MAR test are indications of possible antisperm antibody on the sperm. Both these results were normal indicating no suggestion of antibody which would reduce the sperm quality.

In total this is a good specimen with every expectation of being a fertile one. Only a pregnancy can confirm fertility, but these results are very reassuring. If your own results are as good as these then you are both off to a good start.

Kind regards,

Hello Paul

Thank you so much for explaining the result to me. it was a great help.

The Debris, my DF was + so does that mean the cellular appeared in his specimen? I do remember him passing urine 5 mins before...

Hi again,

A little bit of cellular debris is unavoidable, even in the most perfect of DFs!
