Can anyone shed any light on this info

My DH had a semen analysis a couple of weeks ago and hasn't been able to get an appointment with the GP as they are booked up. He ended up with a 10 minute telephone appointment and all they have told him is he needs a repeat test. Volume was 2 ml and no live cells were detected. They said the results didn't give the usual information so he couldn't interpret them and they looked like they had been done by the microbiology lab.

Obviously DH was distraught thinking this means no sperm, is this the meaning of the statement 'no live cells' or does that refer to the white cell count? I have spoken to a lovely lady at the fertility clinic who said the results are as they would normally be and the GP has all the information he needs, but yes a repeat is their advice. I could tell she wanted to tell me the results (she put me on hold whilst she checekd with someone else), but they aren't allowed to. We have tried to get an appointment with the GP but there is nothing for 2 weeks, so we just have a form to go back and the fear of no sperm. If that is the case we will deal with it but we just need to know.

RE: Can anyone shed any light on this info

I'm really sorry you have been left confused and upset.

I wouldn't like to comment on the interpretation of results you were given over the telephone. If your DH calls the fertility clinic would they be able to give him more info over the telephone?

My advice would be not to panic at this stage. Even if those results did show no sperm, only another test will really bring more conclusive results.

best of luck xxx

Sorry you're having this worry.
Definitely don't panic though. Apart from anything else results can vary so wildly between samples that one sample can't really give you much to go on anyway. They usually have 3 before they draw any real conclusions.
Just another random thought. Can you get an emergency appt at the GP? I know it's not an emergency but if you're getting really stressed about it then it is urgent. The GP won't care why you're there, it's just getting apst the receptionists that can be difficult!

Good luck.

Hi There,

So sorry I am not really sure what this means but I would have to agree with the girls that chasing up the clinic and/or doctors may be the best way to get some answers.

Wishing you all the best.

Thanks everyone, I assume from the fact no-one wants to say otherwise it does look likes DH doesn't have any sperm in his semen. Done a bit of reading and it does seem like the most probable answer. I'm sooooo angry with the GP though, why they couldn't answer his questions and just fobbed him off I don't know, it doesn't help. If someone is asking you outright for the truth you should tell them.

We're going to try and get an appointment next week and failing that I have my appointment with the specialist about my PCOS/cyst removal at the end of the month so I'm going to try and get them to forward on the results so at least we can speak to someone who knows what our options are. I'm trying to remain positive, maybe I'm more of an optimist than I realise
