1st visit to Consultant.... vasectomy reversal or ICSI?!

Hi,
We saw the consultant last night for our first appointment.
DH had a vasectomy in May 2007 before we met,I had an ectopic in 2005 and lost my left tube.
The consultant thinks our best option is to check out if I'm ovulating, and have an ultrasound scan to assess my egg situation, then if I'm ok, to try vasectomy reversal first. If it's successful, then we can ttc naturally... and if it's not then even with a low sperm count, our options for IVF are greater than just ICSI and IVF.
My GP was a bit dismissive of reversal, so it wasn' really what we were expecting to hear last night.
What have been anyone else's experiences of reversal, or been in a similar situation and gone for IVF and ISCI rather than reversal?
Thanks ?(

Hi Kerry

I've moved your thread to the male factor section and changed the title a bit so you'll get more or a response.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope you get your BFP soon.

Hiyyah

As long as you are ovulating then a reversal is worth going for as the vasectomy was quite recent so the reversal has a better chance of working than if it had been years and years ago!!

Having said that I would definitely ask that your ovarian reserve and FSH levels are checked as I guess you are 38 this year so you don´t want to go down the reversal line if levels indicate that you need to consider IVF sooner rather than later if you don´t conceive after a reversal.

Thanks for reply. That's pretty much the advice the consultant gave, and having my bloods done tomorrow ( day 21), and then will sort out for an ultrasound scan.
The consultant seemed quite pro -reversal , if I'm ok.
Where has anyone had success at, or are all clinics about the same odds of it being successful?
Guess my evening will be spent internet searching! lol :teehee:
