Sperm query

We had our first appointment with the fertility specialist a week or so ago where we discussed hubby's poor SA (less than 50K and no motile ones whatsoever) and she didn't seem concerned by this particularly. In fact she said we can normally always harvest some from somewhere. If this is the case when is donor sperm required and how often can motile sperm not be harvested?

Any advice would be appreciated.

RE: Sperm query

Hi,

The fact that he does have some sperm in his ejaculate, even if very low numbers and non-motile, indicates that there is some sperm production taking place around the testicles.

Non-motile sperm can be used for ICSI of course, so even if they are not able to track down the sperm producing areas then there are sperm for use. But there is probably a 40% chance that some active sperm with be recovered, and frozen for subsequent use.

Good luck with this,
