How many sperm needed for ICSI?

Hello, can anyone tell me roughly how many sperm they need to do ICSI from a semen sample please?
My DH has only ever been told by NHS tests that he has less than 1 million, never given an exact count. We are booked in for a consultation for ICSI on 28th July which includes a detailed SA. Im getting ahead of myself and really hoping they find enough in the sample to use rather than doing SSR, as it would save him having to go through that and it would save us £1300.

Has anyone got any experience of this please.
Thanks.

Hi Hun - Im not sure they have a minimum - A friend of mine who's partner had 0 sperm on ejaculation - and was schelduled for ssr - managed to produce 6 healthy sperm after a period of time on clomid!
I know they dont normally give this to men, but it worked for him when nothng else did, on ICSI 3 of there 6 sperm fertilised the eggs - 2 were put back at ET, and they are now 11 weeks with twins.

I think its a case of taking one day at a time, i know the finances and stresses are massive and its easier on our hearts if we try to plan it all out, perhaps look into some vitamins or hormone therapy that you can buy over the counter to see if you can improve the count? You may have already tried this and i apoligise if im telling you to suck eggs :innocent:

1 million, although less than there should be, is still sufficent for them to get sperm for ICSI

My partner has a high count but 98% of them are abnormal or already dead when ejaculated, they said they would be able to get enough for icsi by taking a couple of samples, some a couple of days before ec just in case and some on the day of ec.

Im sure there is something they can do to help you hun xxx

Thanks, he is on lots of vitamins and a healthy diet, so hopefully that will improve things.

Its always good to hear these success stories too.

Good luck to both of you!
