Not Heard all the details, but we were peeved because we conceived in feb.....

your best bet would be to look on the HFEA website and this should give you all the details you need

Lamy,
We have had two previous iui attempts before the law change on april 6th, this time when we had our treatment we both had to complete paper work giving consent for me to be named on the birth certif.Although me and my dp have not had a civil partnership it now means that i will have some parental rights without having to go through a court.
good luck

Lottie's right - under the old law, your DP would have no parental rights at all and would have to adopt the child in the same way that you'd adopt a step-child. My DP and I delayed our treatment because of this.

Now, your DP will be able to have full legal rights over the child from the word go. Great news for lesbian mums-to-be!

hi girls - we got some legal advice. See below. It's the Human fertility and embryology legislation.

Unfortunately it won't apply to us - conceived before April 6th. (Although happy beyond wildest dreams at conception!!)

"Basically what this means for civil partners is that if either partner conceives a child using donor sperm, after 6th April, then the other civil partner will be the other legal parent of the child, unless she certifies that she did not consent to the process. When the child is born, both partners would go on the birth certificate and would have full parental rights and responsibilities. The sperm donor is not a legal parent and has no parental rights and responsibilities. These rules apply whether the conception is through treatment at a clinic, or through DIY DI. But the new rules only apply to children conceived after April 6th."

Hope helps

Pink xx

Hi Lamy

The paperwork is really straightforward, it just asks for both names, birth dates, and NHS number or passport numbers. We got ours photocopied too before we handed it over so we have a copy. It is a brilliant new law and we are so so happy. I didn't actually realise it also meant DP's names could go on the birth certificate. How does that work? Does it not ask for Father? Or have they changed them (sorry being a bit clueless about this all!!).

Hiya marylou,
yes it does actually mean that your dp name goes on the birth certificate, how exciting is that!!the paper work has changed so it does not request name of father i think its something like "other named parent".Has it sunk in yet or are you still doing tests!good idea about getting the forms photocopied,we didnt think of that.
lots of love lottiexxxxxxx :goodnews:

Really Lottie, oh my god, dp is going to be so pleased. It was worrying me a bit too, what to actually put!! Thanks for that :D

I did yet another test yesterday morning (think that makes a grand total of 9). Neurotic mum-to-be or what?! Yes I think it has finally started to sink in. Woke up at 4am and sat bolt upright and announced to myself I AM PREGNANT :snigger:

Here's hoping for lots more BFP's this month, I need some neurotic pregnancy buddies!!
