Can the progesterone pesseries delay period?

Hi there,

I am now 15 days post transfer and have no period pains or AF yet! I am not optomistic about being BFP as I am 43 but I was wondering, could my AF be delayed because of the progesterone pesseries? I just don't want to get my hopes up. Im also too scared to test yet!

Any advice would be appreciated thanks

Gilly x

Hi Kittenlove,
The progesterone pessaries can delay AF in some people. But of course pregnancy delays AF in others!!! I hope you are in the latter group.
Lots of luck to you!

Hi,
WTW is right, in some people it can delay AF - but not once did it delay mine. My AF arrived 1 day before test date on my first IVF and it arrived 5 days early on my second IVF ....
When is ur test date hun? xx

I was 2 weeks yesterday post transfer so I should have tested then but I am too scared to!

I was hoping to let my body tell me if I am pregnant!

My doctor said If I don't get AF by 16th then I am almost definatly BFP but now I am thinking my AF has not arrived because of pesseries....confused!

Oh hun ... i know its hard, but the only way to find out is to do a test!

Have u got pesseries to carry on with if u are pg? If so, it means ur still taking them now yes?

Do u have a pg test kit at home that u could do in the morning?

Also - no AF symptoms is a good sign, im not forcing u to test hun, that is totally down to u, but already ur questioning your body. Your past ur test date ... well done for being so good (i usualy test from day 8 onwards lol)

I totally understand that ur scared hun ... i do hope u find the courage to test soon tho, or you will just go insane either waiting for ur AF to arrive or not!

Hopefuly it wont ... and u will get that BFP .... im 40 too so i understand about the age thing ... but it dont mean it cant be done either ... i know a 47 year old woman who carried to term and now has a 1 year old son ...

Let me know either way if u test or not ... good luck :D xxxxx

WELSHBIRD Thank you so much for your kind words. I was thinking that at my age, trying IVF again will be pointless. At the moment I just don't know what to do. x

No....happy to talk to you about this hun. I was on quite a high dose of Menopur and the nasal spray! We went to prague for many reasons, price, good statistics and also was less stress to be away from home and work....

Have u been to any clinics here? The only reason i ask is cos u might get a better response from them, as to is it worth going again. I assume it was your husbands sperm used etc?

I was on 300iu of Menopur, was yours around the same? I just dont want u to make the decision not to go again cos it didnt work the first time. You do know that here in the UK they allow women over 40 to have 3 x embryo's put back? If you got to that stage, the more embryo's u have put back gives u a better chance.

After our last go we only put 2 x back, got pg but sadly m/c at 8 wks - this next time, we are deff going for 3 x put back. yes there is a risk of getting triplets, but lets face it, at our age its hardley likely.

If i were you, talk to ur DH about going to clinics at home for consultations. I know ur age is againist you (its against us all) but there will be some out there who will give u the best advise possible about any further treatment.

What about IUI? Is there any reason why u went straghit to IVF???

I dont want to confuse u, or make ur head even more fuzzy hun, IUI is when they stimm u to get just 2 folicles ... then they inject u with DH's freshly washed sperm when u are about to ovulate - u dont have to have egg collection, just drugs ... there should be a thread on here explaining all about IUI ... if i hadnt been steralized, thats what i would have chosen to do before going down the ivf route ... have u ever had a FSH or AMH test done?

I too was sterilised but had this reversed 4 years ago but still have not been able to conceive. I also have quite bad endometriosis so there are a lot of things against us. We tried clomid and this didnt help either....x

Ah right - well IUI is deff out of the question then! I have endo too, but never had my steralization reversed, cos the consultant told us we wud be better going straghit for ivf cos there was more guarantees with it. I dunno then hun, i think u should ask for a FSH test (taken on day 2 or 3 of ur period) and see how high/low it is (the lower the better) and have a chat with ur DH about visiting a clinic to see where u stand ...
