just wondering - where will biopsy take place?

I know this probably depends on where you live, but im wondering where df will have his biopsy. Will it be my local hospital where he goes to see the urologist or will it be at the fertility clinic that they refer us to? xxx

RE: just wondering - where will biopsy take place?

Hi Rainbow,

It can vary from place to place. In the past it was always the Urologist who did this as part of his investigation of the male patient. The biopsied material was then put into formaldehyde solution and sent off to the laboratory to be sectioned and analysed, and the results used to diagnose the nature of the male problem.

However, now that sperm can be recovered from testicular material and used for ICSI, is important that the procedure is done somewhere were these sperm can be frozen and used for future treatment. This means a fertility unit. So try to defer this biopsy until it can be used for treatment as well as for diagnosis. In other words to be done in a fertility clinic.
