Can I foster AND adopt?

Hi all,

Not sure if this is a silly question or not!

If I wanted to foster as a job could I still be considered for adoption?
Just wasnt sure as I am assuming that fosterering can sometimes be tricky with difficult kids and thought this may affect my chances.
On the other hand there is always the opportunity to foster a child that may need adopting.

Anyone have any words of wisdom about this or any experience?

Many thanks!

Im not experienced in adoption at all. But i had a friend whose Mum fostered and she went onto adopt 2 of her foster children.
But I'm sure that someone else will come along with more helpful advice.

Hi Tigerlily

I don't know the exact answer , all I do know is that the process for fostering is very very simular as the adoption.

Knowing what sorts of backgrounds a child/children could come from , it may be difficult to place a child for adoption whilst you are fostering . There are all sorts of attachemnt issues etc. there are lots of situations where foster carers have gone onto adopt, so maybe it would be considered

The best person to answer that would be a local authority i think .

Hope you find your answers

I'm Sarah (32), married to Andy (39) for 3 years. Andy had a vasectomy before we met, after a failed reversal op, we have had 3 unsuccessful IVF cycles, another reversal op - OMG it worked - now trying naturally.
