** ALL MEMBERS PLEASE! **

*** LETTER NOW ATTACHED! ***

Hi ladies

PLEASE can we take up a couple of moments of your time?

I have been talking to Sperm Scientist regarding plans for NHS funding for fertility in the South Central SHA (includes Portsmouth) and we need to get as many people as we can to write to the SHA to petition their plan to stop funding IUI.

As the moment Portsmouth only offer IUI and the IVF clinic they send the couples to when IUI hasn't worked /isn't going to work will only take a very few couples a month (ie 1 or 2). This basically will mean that there will be virtually NO NHS assisted conception in Portsmouth!!

We know from experience on FZ that Portsmouth are very successful at ovulation induction IUI and I agree with SS that it should be a first line treatment for almost everyone, not scrapped!

Apparently the SHA responds to numbers of letters rather than one big petition, so do you think you can spare one minute of you time to download the letter I have attached and pop it in a freepost envelope?

I sincerely hope that we can get as many letters as we have active members! It would be an outrage if this hospital offered no NHS fertility treatment at all and that ALL couples will have to pay for IUI

Simply download the letter and type OVER where it says 'YOUR NAME' etc. Once you've printed the letter out, simply post to

FREEPOST
NHS HAMPSHIRE

If you don't have a printer, please email me your completed letter and I will send it off for you. admin@fertilityzone.co.uk

If you don't have MSWord, email me with your name and address and I will do it for you!

I have attached the discussion document, should you wish to read through it before you fill out the questionnaire.

THANK YOU!

As soon as I get into work, consider one sent from me and at least 3 others as well!! Every letter helps.

How can the NHS justify this decision?! Surely with all their area rules it would mean that people in portsmouth are being singled out because of the nhs catchment area??I don't understand why they think its a good idea to stop funding.

Of course I will do this - as someone who has benefited from NHS treatment I can't believe that they are planning on offering less of it rather than more, when more and more people need it.

I;ve just had a look at the attachments and forgive me for being dumb but I'm not sure which one I'm meant to send. There's a questionnaire, a table and then a PDF but they all appear to be NHS documents?

Hi Eeyore - I'll definitely send a letter but I'm not really sure where it is on this thread or how to open an attachment. Maybe you've removed it after Abby's comments so I'll check back later.

This is awful - I think our local authority must be one of the better as they have recently ADDED up tp three NHS funded FETs on top of the initial first whole IVF cycle. Not sure about IUI but how can areas differ so drastically - it isn't fair.

I'll check back later.

I want to take part as well
I was NHS patient at Portsmouth St Mary's,I was in a queue for the IUI and It was 12 months waiting list, and 6 months later they had some error and I was removed from the list.I was heartbroken, but naturally fell PG
So to cut short,I will sign any letter to make sure the couples are offered IUI free and not just one treatment,as many as they need to get the result
please let me know when the letter/petition is ready

I will send a letter too.

I'm at the Princess Anne in Southampton and was told that the PCT for this area doesn't fund IUI at all. Can we do a petition for that PCT too? Why do some PCT's in the North offer 3 free IUI's and ours don't. IT'S NOT FAIR!

RE: ** ALL MEMBERS PLEASE! **

Hiya

Count me in. I've just started my treatment at Portsmouth, had one unsucessful cycle. But now have to wait up to 3 months now for surgery, then I can start my treatment again.

Hi everyone!

I am SO sorry for the delay, I wanted to get this absolutely right as it's such an important issue

The letter is now attached to the first post.

If you have MSWord, please open the letter and type OVER where it says YOUR NAME/YOUR ADDRESS etc, that way it won't muck up the page numbers. If you could then post it to the address at the top of the letter, which is

FREEPOST
NHS HAMPSHIRE

that would be AMAZING!

If anyone doesn't have a printer or MSWord, then please PM me with your name and address and I will post it out for you

Thank you SO much.

SpermScientist continues to be an incredible part of FertilityZone and I truly hope that as many of you as possible will help in this small way

Eeyore, I want to do this too, but my printer at home doesn't work.

I nearly printed it out at work on Friday, but when I tried to open the file, it came came up as text mixed with codes and stuff ?(

What should I do? Can you send it to me on my email as an attachment? Or can you do one for me with my name on it? Whatever's easy for you is fine by me!
