Upset over broken embryo

Had EC yesterday and got 15 eggs, which is twice the amount i got during my last cycle of ICSI. I was over the moon espicially as we need to Freeze the remaining ones.

The embryologist phoned this morning to say that 9 had fertilized but they broke 3, transferring them to another dish. Does anyone know if this a common thing? I feel so upset thinking they might have been good ones. :bawl:

Has anyone else had problems with embies being broken?

RE: Upset over broken embryo

Hi Dawn and Mick

:hugs: Whilst I've never heard of damaging embryos I do know eggs can be damaged from the egg collection procedure and during fertilisation. It's so sad honey but these things must happen from time to time.

It must have been really upsetting to hear that news :cuddle

Fingers crossed that the six left do you proud honey smile2

Hi Dawn and Mick,

Never heard of it either, but you still have 6, which is a great number, try not to worry about the other 3 ,in my mind that points towards them not being the best they could be anyway(not a medical opinion) this isn't the best time for you to be getting upset and stressed, concentrate on those 6 lovely embies you have, and keep yourself well.

All the best to you both.

Oh dear...what a strange and unexpected event...I've never heard of this in all the IVF reading I've done.
The others are right; you have 6 strong embies left - try to focus on them and get lots of rest in preparation for the transfer.

All the best xxx

I am sure Duffy is right and this does happen from time to time- no doubt most women are just told they didn't make it.

Good luck with the remaining 6.
