Holiday or not to holiday during 2WW

Well, we are seeing our consultant at the Clinic on 3rd March for our 1st appointment and as we are paying not sure how long it will be until we are into our first treatment. Just a question, how many of you took a week or two off work between EC and ET? Is it worth it or should you stay with normality and work? Also if you are off work, is it worth booking to go away for a week (in this country) to try and relax or chill? Any thoughts or has anyone been away during their 2WW and has this helped? Me and my DH are thinking once we know timings (I know these can alter) that we may try and get away in this country for at least one of the weeks of the 2WW.

Thanks

Joolsxx

I took off the day of EC and then was off work until a week after ET.

I did not go anywhere just took it easy. Not sure I would do it again though cause all i did was think about whether it worked or not.

I personally would not fly during 2WW but there is nothing to say that doing so would harm your chances of success.

One lady on here rode her horse after ET and her cons said it was not a problem...if it were we could use horse riding as contraception.

i took off the day of EC and the day after.
we didnt get to ET but i would have had a couple of days off to relax
this time round, i have the same time booked off and hope it works! and will be going away the week after test day (assuming we get that far).

Thanks, that what I was thinking actually now after hearing your advice that maybe I should save the holiday for after test date and if its negative then we can have a bloody good drink and if it is positive then we can have a chilling break!!!

Hi Jools,

We went away for the last weekend in our 2WW. Only to the Cotswolds, but we stayed in a lovely hotel and had a fantastic time. It was good having something near the end of the wait to look forward to (that wasn't pregnancy-related!) and it also helped get through those last few days.

I'd definitely recommend it! A whole week away might be a bit much because you'd be on holiday but for long enough to get settled into a routine ... and then obsess about the tx! A weekend was good because it was short enough to stay novel, but long enough to help us get through the last few days!

Anyway, whatever you decide to do - :goodluck:

I did a long haul flight with DS1 (the day after ET and that ended up as a BFP)

With DS2 (still cooking) I went to Greece for a girly holiday during the 2WW
I did do a PG test in the mens loo at a bus terminal when I was feeling shitty and that was pretty stressful as I didn't know if it was a faint positive, a negative or lines from the heat.

So all in all, nothing better than just getting on with life and enjoy it!

I wasn't too bothered with the drink. I had 1/2 a small beer 2 times but that was it. I figured I could drink afterwards and still have a good time without it.

Funny - this question has been on my mind too.
I plan to take the day of EC and ET off work and probably the day after EC too just to recover.

We've also decided to visit my parent half way through the 2WW (assuming everything goes swimmingly and we get that far). It's my DH birthday that weekend and we thought the distraction would be good. Nothing worse than sitting around clock watching!

I do rather fancy doing a holiday in Greece though - anyone else up for it?! :P

After first ivf cycle we went on a 2 week holiday long haul..BFN
2nd cycle rested at home....BFP
Personally i don't think the flight made the ivf not work, but i guess i'll never know for sure. And i have to say the wait at home has been so much more stressful and loooooooooooooonnnnggg compared to feeling relaxed on holiday (No washing cleaning ironing bed making hoovering cooking!)
But it did work this time,so who knows .
As long as you won't beat yourself up over it if its a negative,do what you feel is right x
Good luck x

Hi. I had week of treatment off and then two weeks following and got a bfp. I didn't stress through the 2ww but i did find being off work beneficial.

Hi Jools,
I just came back from a lovely week in Mexico. What I loved about going away was that although the 2ww is the longest 2 weeks ever, I felt like it made my holiday last forever! Last cycle I was glued to the computer and stressing over every little twinge.... I am having a test day tomorrow. I hope I didn't cook my little embies in the sun :innocent:
