Treatment at Jessops

:hi:

We have just got our first appointment through yesterday for 10th May for our initial IVF Consultation. We are not new to treatment as we have had 4 DIUI treatments before at St Marys, Manchester and MFS in Manchester. We contacted our PCT and they have agreed that they will fund an IVF cycle but only here. What is it like?

I would also be really grateful for any advice anyone can give us about anything that we need to ask or do.

Thanks for replying. We are seeing Dr Skull, is he nice? I am so grateful for any information that you can tell me. As you can see we have had 4 DIUI treatments at St Marys in Manchester but we are new to IVF so anything you can tell me would be really appreciated.

I have my xfingers for your FET. When does everything happen for you?

I have had 3 ivf so I know all about it - worse luck!

basically you need to see Dr Skull who is lovely. he did my last egg collection and talked to DH all the way through about Marilion (sp?) rock band! they had a right laugh.

All the nurses are lovely there. after you have seen the doctor you will then need to make sure that you get booked onto the list for the cycle. what I suggest is you work out when your next few periods are due and see which is the next date they have for that week you are due on. they will honour if you are a week early or late. they then put you in the book as they can oly do so many people each week.

at the moment they are booking for mid-may. you will then need to make sure you see a nurse for injection training and signing consent forms before the date you are due to start your cycle.

then you need to ring the clinic on day 1 of your period. they will get you in on day 2 for blood and scans and you will get your prescription for drugs. then you ring clinic and they will tell you what to inject. then off you go!!!!

if you want to keep in touch as you go feel free. when are you going to clinic?

thanks for your kind wishes. i am not holidng out a lot of hope due to my previous cycles. x

:hi: Bravegirl,

How did your appointment go today?

We met Dr Skull who was lovely. We were really pleased as St Marys had sent our notes over and we wont have to go through all the tests again. We wont have to have anymore counseling either which is great. He talked us through the IVF process and we now have to wait to see if they have any donor sperm. He told us that there is a shortage in the area so we will have to wait to hear now! The parking is a killer there isn't it?

See my diary for more info. For straight forward IVF I do still rate Jessops but I need more than that.

Hi ladies,

I am considering Jessops for infertility treatment. I'm not sure what I will need yet as I was only advised I needed further help last week. Would you recommend Jessops? How long did you wait for your first consultation?

Waiting to start at Jessops

Hi ladies, sorry for the thread resurrection but thought I would do this instead of starting a new one! I'm hoping to start treatment at Jessops in next few months, just waiting for my NHS consultant at Pinderfields to refer me to Jessops. I also need to wait for my cycles to return to normal after an ectopic in December. I went for a visit to Jessops and Care Fertility in Sheffield a few weeks ago and really got a nice feeling about Jessops, Ive read a lot of good reviews too. Care looked very nice as well and their results are pretty good but I didnt get the same vibe and of course as we are self funding the price kinda swung it in Jessops favour too!! For what it costs at Care we could afford 1.5 cycles at Jessops!

So thats about it really, hope to get to know you lovely ladies over next few months and I apologise now for the million and one questions that I will be asking!! xx

Hi Cankles, thanks for your review yesterday. I am just in the process of looking at the different clinics. We are from North Yorks so unfortunately we do not receive any funding. After looking at the HFEA website it appears that the Sheffield clinics have better sucess rates than our local clinics so if we are having to pay I would prefer to choose the better clinic. The sucess rate charts are a little confusing though, do you know if it is 'Care' or Jessops that have the better IVF stats? I spoke to both clinics today to make initial enquiries and 'Care' were definately more helpful but then again they are a 'private' clinic. I do feel the same as you re cost, it would be around 1k more per cycle at care.
Anyway we are visiting our GP on Monday so I will probably request a referral to Jessops and go from there, the receptionist at Jessops said they have a 4-6 week wait for self-funding patients so I guess I will have time to decide once this arranged. :)

Hi ladies hope you don't mind if I jump on here,

Crankles - after chatting yesterday I checked out jessops clinic and the cost for the whole package including drugs is 3k is this correct? Funny enough my DF works with a girl who got referred to DR Li who shares by him and he specialises in jessops fertility and she is now expecting so really positive, I am going to ring up Monday and see if we can come over and check it out.

NYorks - this whole looking for the right clinic and keeping the cost down is driving me mad so fingers crossed jessops is the right one the cost certain,y looks appealing, I will be interested to know what you think of the place if your going to take a look.

We are the same here in West Yorkshire, I think its only South Yorkshire (Barnsley) that get funding, they are entitled to 3 rounds on the NHS as long as they dont have children living with them!!! Hmmm dont get me started grrrrrrr!!!!
I know what you mean about the HFEA results tables, very confusing! I do think Care have slightly better results but Jessops told us that they publish results from all treatments not just IVF so it can be a bit misleading whereas Jessops break it down to results from IVF results from ICSI etc to be honest I dont think there is much in it between Care and Jessops, I think I would be leaning more towards Care if they had 10% + better results but I think its 1-2% if that, so from a funding point of view it makes sense for us to go with Jessops, and if it doesnt work first time, and lets face it the odds of it working first time arent great at least we could afford another go fairly quickly. Hope it goes well for you NYorks, let me know how it goes!!

Hiya, for Jessops in Sheffield it is £3050 but that will go up in Apr but only by 2% I think so its will still be a fair bit cheaper than Care. Ive been told we will be under Mr Skull (as a part-time Goth, I love this name!!!!) Oooo so we could be clinic buddies!!! : D Did you ring up? They were really nice when I arranged an informal visit, they showed us round and it was all very down to earth. I think they have open evenings too so maybe you could ask about that.

Hi Cankles

Thanks soooo much for the PM and info on the clinic in Spain looks good, I am going to research a bit more. I will give Jessops a call on Friday to see if I can go and look round the place, up to now it certainly looks the best (because of the cost) and will save us having to go abroad. one of the clinics I've looked at abroad says 91% success rate that you will pregnant with in 3 rounds of IVF that does sound good odds but not sure i believe success rates like that :-/

If all goes well at jessops we could be clinic buddies which would b great smile2 £3050 is certainly the bet price yet, :thumbsup2:

Mr skull hey yea I can see him being right up your street [zx126] Lol have you come across Mr Li? He works for jessops and has treat a girl who works with my DF who swears by him she didn't have IVF but he treated her for what ever and she is now 25 weeks pregnant so my DF is certainly up or jessops knowing what success she has had.

How's things with your cycle Hun any nearer starting treatment? Can't wit to get going bet you feel the same,

YAY!!! clinic buddies!!! biggrin2 that would be ace!!! Would be nice to have a friend there. It can be really lonely this fertility lark, none of my 'real life' friends have any fertility issues so dont understand at all. Ive heard of Mr Li through forums but dont know what hes like but Ive read good things about them all at Jessops.

Oh yes, Im chomping at the bit to get started lol I'm hoping it will be May at the latest, just waiting for my period to turn up after the ectopic, which will be around middle of March hopefully, then we can get started ASAP!!

Let us know how the Jessops visit goes hun xx

Hi all, I hope I'm posting this in the right place :) just thought I'd say hi because I've just had an appointment at jessops and hoping to do my first ever transfer in the new year. I have a condition called Turners syndrome meaning essentially amongst other things I don't have functioning ovaries. Luckily I have the best sister ever who is going to donate eggs
 I have been put on hrt for a few months to try and build my uterus lining up ready for hopefully my sister's procedure in January and transfer

Majorly nervous about the whole process for both me and my sister. From what I've heard the treatment my sister has to have can be a little brutal :-( and of course I'm desperate for it work, not helped by the fact that everyone seems to be dropping babies around me (my sister in law and my cousin are both due in December which is absolutely amazing and I'm so happy for them both : D but it's just going to make me ache even more. Went over to my sister in laws the last night and just seeing the little bedroom they've done up for their 'baby to be' gave me pangs :-( )

The staff at jessops are all lovely and I'm feeling very well looked after but I'm a bit frustrated that they don't seem to be able to give me clear answers on funding, etc. this current cycle, being our first, is on the nhs. However I'm a little unclear how many transfers will be free on the nhs and how many transfers I am likely to get out of my sister's treatment cycle (this is the biggie because it's the bit that really costs a lot and more importantly it is the bit that I really don't want her to go through any more times than necessary) I tried in my appointment to establish how many embryos suitable for transfer they are likely to manage to get from my sister and the nurses were very wooly about it. I realise it's rather a wooly subject but the impression the nurses gave is that there is likely to only be 1 or 2 or at most a handful of her embryos that reach a stage viable for transfer but I've spoken to people who claim that during their treatment they managed to get as many as 10/12 so this is really confusing me. If anyone can shed any further light on this I would be very greatful

Thanks for listening to my rant if you've fot this far  If anyone is also receiving treatment at jessops then good luck! And feel free to message me, you never know I might see you there in the new year :)

Thanks xxxx

Hello

I want to wish you the best of luck with your treatment and to say that I don't think you can second guess what is going to happen and you will exhaust yourself if you try. It is impossible to predict exactly how someone will react to treatment, although there are certainly things that will give clues - your sister's age, her AMH, her FSH, etc. The best advice I can give you is to try and go with the flow and not get fixated on numbers of embryos etc. Your sister might produce 10 eggs and get 2 embryos, she might produce 5 eggs and they will all end up as embryos - you just won't know in advance and one cycle won't necessarily be like the next (although hopefully you will get lucky first time). Also, IVF isn't an easy process by any means, and I can understand your concern for your sister's health, but try not to worry too much about side effects. I've experienced very few side effects myself and although I've been lucky, I think that the physical effects of the process are by no means the worst bit.

Take care and good luck
Jenny x

Thanks Jenny,

Yes I totally agree. It's a futile effort trying to second guess any part of IVF really, but nevertheless I am sure however hard I try I won't be able to stop my brain doing it for the next few months  what I will say is my sister is only 30 and has 2 young children of her own and all her hormone levels were well within the normal range so that's all got to work in our favour.

Good luck with your quest for baby 2, wishing you all the best :)

Jess xx
