Collapsed immature follicle??

Hi everyone,

my first cycle of IUI has just been abandoned as a scan showed that my follicle had collapsed (the largest was only 13mm).

Has anyone else had this? Or know what makes it happen?

Hi

I've moved this into the IUI area as you should get more replies there.

As I understand it follicles have to be around 18mm+ to be likely to contain a mature egg so if it was smaller than that I can see how it would be said to collapse without the egg having had the opportunity to reach maturity.

What have the suggested they might do differently next tim?

Thanks for the replies... I'm going for a review meeting on Wednesday so I guess I'll find out about alternative options then.

I'm half tempted to go straight on to IVF because of the higher success rate. Thinking in purely practical terms, Mum 2 and I don't have a massive amount of money, so I'm wondering if this would be better. But I'm guessing they'll probably try to persuade me to try the less invasive route first.

At the end of the day if you're paying it's your call. I don't know much about IUI but it seems to be the next possible step (if you stay with the IUI option) could be to increase the dose of clomid that they give you to try and ensure that you have decent sized mature follicles in the next cycle.

Good luck. Hope your meeting goes well on Weds.

As Bubble says there are other meds they could try but at the end of the day it's your call!

Good luck!
