CARE Northampton

Does anyone have any experience of Care Ferility in Northampton??

I live in Herfordshire and have been researching the London clinics but to be honest don't fancy having to catch all the trains etc. The Northampton clinic is only a 40min drive away.

Due to my weight I'm having to find a clinic with an upper BMI limit of 35 although I plan to be BMI 33 prior to treatment.

Orginially referred to Bourn Hall but they're limit is 30.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks
Sarah

Hey hun!

Sorry I don't really have any advice concerning CARE northampton.

I was looking at them too, so it would be great if someone had something good about them to say.

Loads of luck with your journey, and I really hope that it is a short one!

Hi just thought I would have a look at the forum for Care Northampton as we are waiting to see if we get funding (due to rule changes on 1st November 2008- hubby has got 2 children from previous marriage so no funding, but we hopefully got in before the cut off)
Our cons has highly recommended this place to us and we are going to open evening tonight. Would really love to hear from anyone who has or is having treatment there.

I have been there
only for inital consultation ( waiting for another issue to resolve before i can start treatment!)
they seemed so lovely and professional, they are nice and small which i think is much bettter than a big clinic where people dont know you name!
Im definatly having treatment there in the future!
They seemed lovely, far better than other places where i have been in the past!
I dont know what their limit is - they didnt mention this to me!
Good luck

Well once I lose some weight I am getting referred to CARE Northampton.
My consultant in one of my Clinic Appointments told me that if I was his daughter he would insist that I go to CARE Northampton.
So I think that says it all for them really doesn't it?

How was it there dawniedoll? Sorry to see that you got a BFN.

I had to lose wait to get my BMI with care Nottingham down from 30.5 to under 30 as funded.

All funded as per NICE guideline BMI 29.9 or under and private at care is 35 i think

As i was funded care would not touch me until i was 3lbs lower it took me 3 months to lose 3 lbs and had to have a separate weigh in, it was a nightmare and i was sooooo stressed out over it. When my BMI was 29.9 back in june came out sobbing as it was such a relief. Also i have had my tx july/aug and have put on over 1 stone from the fertility drugs

Hope this helps and good luck

Well I went to Care Northampton this morning, and had the necessary blood tests. I did not have the chlamydia or rubella though as I have to get that done at my doctors, but I just wanted to say my first impression of Care was very good, the nurse we seen and the reception staff were lovely, fingers crossed now for our consultation next week.

My consultant was Ken Dowell, he was really nice and explained our options (reversal of steralisation or IVF) I had already decided IVF but he had to still go through it with us but agreed with us that IVF would be our best option.

Im just waiting for AF to arrive (should be this Thursday) and I hope to start DR 28th October, getting so excited now.

Hope evryone is doing ok xx

Hi Lynda - Congratulations on your BFP!
We are currently considering CARE Northampton as it's the best clinic near us in terms of success rates. However as we actually live in leicestershire our NHS referral is to Leicester Fertility Centre. At what stage did you go to Care Northampton - and would you recommend going straight there? We would have to self fund but it would be worth it if we had a better chance, i think?

Hi Rb,
We had to self fund anyway as we did not qualify for NHS as I have grown up children already but I was steralised when I was 20, and have since remarried and we wanted to try for a little one of our own.
I researched as much as I could (we live in Leicestershire too) and it was a choice between Care Northampton & Nurture in Nottingham, we felt Care had the best success rates for our ages etc and hence went with them. The staff are really nice there.
I work as a Dr's Secretary and we have leaflets in our surgery about fertility clinics and Care Northampton is listed as one of the NHS fertility clinics, so if you would prefer to go there why not see your GP and ask if they could refer you to Care instead, as you feel their success rates suit you better? its worth a try at least. I am not saying there is anything wrong with the one in Leicester either I just dont know anything about them.
I wish you success on your journey xx

Thanks Lynda

We are going to go ahead with our Leicester appointment as need some of the initial tests doing and don't really want to pay for those. Fortunately nothing untoward has been discovered yet so I'm hoping our chances are good of either natural conception whilst we wait, or of the treatment being successful if that is what we need. We'll definitely go to CARE if it comes to it - thanks for the recommendation, I'll keep you up to date! They are only half an hour away from us so that helps too.

Care Northampton

Hi Sarah - I'm new to FZ. You posted a message in May about Care Northampton. You have most likely made your decision now but if any help, I've been to this clinic and the staff are the best ever - very friendly, supportive and professional. Although we haven't been successful I would have no hesitation in recommending Care northampton. No idea what their BMI limits are though.
Good luck

Hi Neetie,

If I were you I would book your consultation as soon as you had enough money for the consultation fee. Im not sure but I think its about £155 ish but you can check this on their fee schedule.

The reason I recommend this is that there are certain tests etc that they need to do before you can start treatment like HIV tests, Hep B, Chlamydia and the test to show you have the rubella antibody thing.

They can also give you a rough idea of how much the medication will be so at least you will know how much you need to save.

Good luck, Im sure you will find the staff there brilliant, I do.

Take care Lynda xx

Sorry to hijack the thread but Im wondering if CARE offer any drug fertility treatments such as Clomid etc? Im not too sure what treatment I will need yet but if we get to the IVF stage we would be really interested in the egg sharing scheme CARE have. Although I would want to try the clomid route first if its possible. I only ask as all the info they have sent me only talks about IVF etc.

Many Thanks

Hi again Emma,

Like I said in your other thread we had our treatment here, I really can't fault them at all.. The staff were fantastic, waiting time for app etc was very minimal!!! Really easy to get hold of anyone etc..
Just genuinely a really nice atmosphere to have treatment in, another lady Ros on here is at care northampton
aswell, I'm sure she will be along to share her experience :)
Wishing you lots and lots of luck on your journey, and if you need any more info or just a chat feel free to pm me xxx
