IVF in Norway

Hi all
Just wanted to share my experience. I have started ivf/icsi in Norway. It's a short flight from Stanstead to Norway and I am sooo pleased with the clinic and the doctor.
ICSI costs £1700 (scans included) and drugs around £600. You can get cheap tickets with ryanair, you will need to stay there for 10 days. The clinic has a deal with radisson hotel which is 5 minutes away from the clinic and it costs £60 for a double room with breakfast and dinner included.
I am very happy with the nurses and my doctor. I never had such a friendly doctor who will spend hours explaining everything to me. I've got his private line and email that I can contact him with any questions.
The website for the clinic is:
http://www.scan-health.co.uk/fertility/

Hiya Apple...

Great to look at your clinic...i cant believe the prices and no waiting time, absolutely brilliant,do you know what their success rates are by any chance and how much altogether including treatment, flights and hotel do you think you will spend...curious to know as if our FET does not work we may consider treatment abroad because of the cost issue, thanks x

Hi Mellisa,

the success rate under 35 years old is 52%...I think, I tell you their success rate is better than some famous clinics over here. I am not here to advertise, I was just overwhelmed by the friendly and personal treatment.
I reckon it will cost me around £3100 with treatment, dugs, hotel and flights. It is very good price if you think that ivf here costs more than £4000.
hope this helps

We used that clinic in Norway for our second attempt. They are incredibly friendly I agree. The treatment did end up costing about the same as over here though, once the cost of staying there was added up. Things are very expensive over there and it can be very boring during the 10 days you stay if you never leave your hotel room and go out! Even a sarnie and a coffee will set you back about a tenner!

The clinic are excellent though. My friend Addy, who used to come on here, used the same clinic and her baby is due in a couple of weeks. That was her first attempt too.

yes they are! I am getting the drugs from Greece as it's much cheaper. However, you won't be able to get the drugs from here as they give you a prescription that is not acceptable in UK. I spend some time on the phone yesterday with some pharmacies in my area and they just refuse to give you the drugs without a prescription from a UK clinic.

By the way, Torisen, how did you manage to get the prescription from your GP? In where I live, noone can get free ivf through NHS but if one goes to their GP, will they be open in writing a prescription for ivf? or is it just up to the GP? these drugs cost a lot!

It seemed to be up to my GP.
She knows about our situation and saw no problems in doing it. I just gave her a list of the drugs I needed and my IVF doctors email address and she just got on with it!
She did the bloods he wanted and all.

Torisen that is great. I am in Hampshire but unfortunately my GP is useless, there is no way she would do such thing. For all the initial fertility tests, she transfered me to a private clinic and I had to pay them all!
My father in law knows a doctor in Greece that he could get a prescription and get them through public health service so hopefully I won't have to pay for them. If I was to buy all the drugs from here (3 boxes of puregon - I am on high dosage), it will cost me £1400!

RE: IVF in Norway

Hi Apple,

I have heard excellent reviews about Scan Health clinic in Norway. My Dh and I have both been through ICSI AND TESE once before in the UK but it didn't work out.

We both need to consider other options as after speaking to our consultant he said to my Dh "hand on heart if I was you, I wouldn't go through with TESE again as we might not find any sperm" but...he said that he is producing some sperm as his FSH is 11?

So by speaking to someone who is at the cutting edge of his/her field may give us some confidence to go through with it as this (reading between the lines) will be our only opportunity.

I would love to hear from you,

Tippy x

Thank you for a quick response.
Do you mind asking for me next time you write to Jon?
I am just worried that he will not reply to me as I am not his patient...?

When will you be off to Norway?

I am actually considering Norway myself... I have been to Moscow so far... So if I get no luck in Moscow, I will try Norway next, as I cannot stand the waiting lists over here...

Hi there
I am actually considering going to Greece for treatment next time. You see, I am Greek and all my family is in Greece and I can have the treatment there for free through the public health system. Also my father in law is a doctor (different kind of doctor though, not in ivf) and he can help me have ivf there - also Greece has no waiting list which is an advantage.
As we have spend an enormous amount of money in fertility treatments, we are now considering the free option. I may have to stay in Greece with my family for about a month though which is not ideal as all the family and in laws will be watching my every move but this is something I need to "control".
So anyway, just give Jon a call and ask him. Sorry I couldn't help more.

RE: IVF in Norway

Hi Apple,

Great to hear of your positive experiences of using IVF in Norway. My husband and I are living in Norway at the moment and although we are hoping that we will be able to eventually concieve naturally, we are thinking of the options if we need to go down that road. We were thinking that we would need to do the treatment in the UK, due to the cost over here, so its interesting to hear your comments! I thought we'd get a couple of trys of IVF free in the UK, but maybe i'm wrong??

RE: IVF in Norway

hi Amazing Grace

good luck with that. It's a bit difficult to get free ivf cycle in UK, you need to be over 36, never gone private for fertility and if you're lucky, they put you on a waiting list for about 2 years. At least that's what happens in my borough.
Hope you'll be more lucky than me. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do

The treatments abroad sometimes are better and cheaper..I also know a very good Clinic in Alicante Spain, where you just need to go twice , there are direct flights and also they have agreements with the best hotels....and you have a translator just for you..They are really kind

The website is www.urvistahermosa.com

Congratulations again..
