Clomid when you ovulate natrually

Hello, just wondered if anyone can give me some information regarding chlomid, me and my partner are unexpalined fertility, i ovulate and his seamen is fine, my consultant has reccomended IUI, but first he has given me a 3 month supply of Chlomid.

Just wondered if anyone else with similar circumstances had used Chlomid, the stuff i have been reading says that Chlomid is for people who dont ovulate natrually and i'm confused? :innocent:

Hi rachell

This thread should give you all the background info you need INFO: A ROUGH GUIDE TO CLOMID

It appears that some consultants prescribe clomid even when people ovulate naturally (I think Leanne is one) just to give people a 'boost'. We are 'unexplained' and have also had clomid - it seems to be a starting point for a lot of people when there is no obvious reason that you haven't conceived.

When do you start on the tablets?

Hi Rachel

The doctors do supply clomid to girls who ovulate on time every month. I ovulated every month with no probs but cons put me on 50mg of clomid for 6 months then if that didn't work 6 months on IUI. He said that it is to bust your eggs to give them an even better chance of been seen. Basically they do not know why you are not falling pregnant so this is to my mind an escape route for them.

My advise is to join the clomid chicks cos it really help me at that time. Good luck hun and try to relax.

Sometimes women who ovulate dont release a mature egg each month, the Clomid enables the follicles/s to reach a certain size (over 16mm) anywhere from 16mm to over 20mm, at least this way you know you have produced a healthy mature egg.

I got told that the follicle must reach 16mm to have an egg inside, so just because we ovulate every month doesnt mean to say our follicles have reached 16mm, if that has been the case then no egg would have been inside the follicle.

The only way you will know what size your follicle/s are is to be scanned via ultra sound 3 times a month.

Also the Clomid can aid 2 or more follicles instead of the 1 we may have been getting without the Clomid which could end in twins or triplets.

On my first cycle i only had one dominant follicle which grew to 23mm so I know i had a healthy mature egg, but for me it wasnt meant to be this month.

One girl on here had a BFP on her first cycle of Clomid 50mg, so there is lots of success stories with Clomid.

I would take northenstars advice and join the Clomid chicks, you can chat to us all about side effects and any little tips we all have.

Good luck hun xxxx

The consultant at CARE Manchester prescribed me Clomid even though I ovulate and my bloods were ok.

When we changed to MFS Prof Lieberman said I didn't need it and said to stop using it. It only gives you a further 3% of conceiving but makes the chances of a multiple go up by 30%. :8o:

You're in the same situation as myself, i ovulate naturally and although DPs sperm is a bit low, its not classed as medically low. My consultant told me he had given clomid to me as a booster to increase my chances of conceiving so don't be too worried!

Hi Leanne, i'm not sure, i have not had any tracking, what is that?

I have just been advised to try it by my GP for 3 months before he refers me for IUI, i suppose i should ask my GP more questions but its all been a bit daunting.

You have put my mind at rest as i was confused, and worried to say the least.

So whats your next step going to be and how have you found the Chlomid?

Hi Rachell I too am in the second day of my cycle and just taken the clomid today, this is my second cycle of clomid, so that makes us cycle buddies :snigger:
after 6 months if it hasnt worked he just said it will be IVF next.
The side effects I have had was headaches like a dull pain behind the eyes, dizziness, my brain went to mush kept forgetting things, I didint sleep very well up some mornings at 5am!. I got really bad ovualtion pains too, the pain was awful but It doesnt mean you will get any side effects some ladies on here dont, so dont worry too much.

The tracking scans are via ultra sound, they count all your follicles and meaurse them to check that the follicles are on track getting to the correct size, and also tell you when you are likely to ovulate, I went last month on cycle day 9 the follicle was 15 mm at that time...then again on cycle day 12 and the follicle was at 21mm, they say follicle/s grow at 2mm a day.
They also check after you have ovulated to make sure your follicle has burst this is normally 1 week after ovulation.
but its also important they check for cysts and things on your ovuaries which sometimes clomid can do.
some people can have over stimulated on the clomid and have too many follicles which can be very dangerous and they will tell you to asbtain for BD'ing that month, so really hun you should be getting these scans, i would insisit on them and you need to know whats going on inside.
you should pop over to the clomid section and Eeyore has explianed all about why you should get scaned.

I hope that has made some sense hun

Just ask away and i will do my best to help you

Forgot to say on the clomid zita west recommends Vit C every day 500mgs, and sometimes your CM can dry up or go altogether so fertility experts recommed Robitussin chesty cough medicine (this is the only kind of cough medicine you can take, no other kind will do) it seems daft that cough medicine can help but it does, it helps your CM stay this should be taken the day after your last tablet for 6 days up to ovualtion.
other things that can help with CM is green tea, grapefruit juice and just drink plenty of water.

Thanks Leanne im glad i have found you, thats mad about the cough mixture but i will give it ago.

I had all the tests via St Marys in Manchester, Hycosy swabs etc, but its my normal GP that has given me the Chlomid for 3 months prior to me being referred to a private clinic for IUI.

So i'm not going to be monitored, i dont think the NHS will do anymore for me due to my age :bawl: so theres no tracking for me.

I will call my GP regarding scanning he never mentioned a thing really.

So are you going private?

Hi Hun I am on the NHS, I have had lots of blood tests, swabs taken inside, Lap & dye all on the NHS, some ladies only get tracking scans for the first month, but I am really luckly I get them every month, you really must insist on them hun, I would ring your consultant's secretary if you cant speak to him direct.I have pasted Eeyore's statement below on how important they are:

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING MONITORED

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The main risk associated with Clomid use is the potential for developing Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS). OHSS can occur with the use of any type of ovulation stimulating drug. It happens when cysts begin to form on the ovaries, causing them to swell to a very large size. Typically, OHSS disappears without treatment but, without proper monitoring, the syndrome can become dangerous. Potential complications include:

• kidney problems
• liver problems
• fluid collection in the lungs and stomach
• twisting of the ovaries

It is essential that your fertility specialist monitor you for signs of OHSS while you are taking Clomid.

Follicular tracking is used to avoid over stimulation as well as to pinpoint ovulation. It is essetial for both the fertility team and you to have a greater understanding of your ovulatory pattern. Follicular tracking is normally performed by vaginal ultra sound scans from Day 9 of the menstrual cycle (Day 1 being the first day of bleeding). The scan will enable the follicle (fluid filled sacs which can contain an egg) in the ovary to be measured. When the follicles measure a certain size it can then be estimated when ovulation is likely to occur.

If the dose of Clomid has caused over stimulation, which can happen very quickly and can be dangerous, you will be advised not to have sex as the amount of follicles you have and the size they are at can't be controlled and to avoid a dangerous multiple pregnancy you are strongly advised to abstain.

Tracking scans is the most frequently discussed subject in the Clomid section! The bottom line is, INSIST on them so you maximise your chances of getting pg and safeguard yourself against the thread of OHSS - what is the point of just having a blood test after ovulation when it's too late?

They are available on NHS and privately, but it seems it some areas you have to ask (or insist!) on them. If Clomid is rescribed by a GP rather than a consultant, it's a struggle to get scans..but Clomid really shouldn't be taken without any aftercare, GP's may do bloods but they only tell you AFTER you have ovulated

I have just re read your post and your GP has gave the clomid to you..are you getting anything done like bloods??, I think G.P's sometimes give Clomid out but they are obligied to moniter same as consultants too
I would def ring you GP about the scans and dont let them fob you off

Thanks for that, oh it's a bit worrying, i know one day it will all be worth it, theres lots of sucess stories on here, i'm even going to have some reflexology as apparently it can help with fertility problems.

Thats weird about the Vit C beacause a white witch that works at our place mentioned that eating tons of oranges increases fertility so maybe its something to do with the CM.

I hate oranges but i'm eating tons.

50mg i have just spoke with my Consultant at St Marys, she says that my GP should make me have a 21 day progesterone test to make sure i'm on the right dose.

Just thinking you should be fertile around the same time as me, since i had my hycosy my periods are every 26 days now instead of 28 days which they have been for all of my life well since i was 14.

Hi Rachell...I didnt get a message hun, but never mind :snigger:

I take 10mls 3 times a day for 6 days, but take your first dose the day after you have finished the last clomid pill, well we are both on the same CD so it will be tomorrow.

I hate the taste of it but as long as it does the trick!!

How are you feeling hun, I have been very grumpy these past few days, my poor lovely DH said last night that I had been awful to him and always getting at him, I felt so so bad but I cant help it, they say you take it out on the closest to you

When are you planning to BD hun, they say its best to get started on CD8 every other day, it gives the sperm to get to full strength again, they say if you do it everyday the sperm is weak, we did BD everyday last time but as I got a BFN we will BD every other, also my DH read on the internet that newshy on all fours is one of the best positions for conceveing :snigger:...god its so good nobody knows me on here we let all our secrets out :snigger:

Hi Leanne,

Hope that your feeling a little better today, luckliy i dont seem to have had any side affects with the Chlomid as yet, according to DH i'm no more grumpier and nastier than i usually am to him :cross: (he's so badly done to)

I have taken my cough medicine everyone at work has had a good laugh about it :snigger:

I dont care as long as it works, i told my DH that i would be feeding him up this week, he says that he feels like a prize bull!!

I think we will BD tonight (just for fun and practice :O

But i think that every two days is best, according to a fertiltiy website i will be fertile starting from the 29th Feb to 7Th March.

Where in Cumbria are you i used to have friends in Workington.

You have twinges?

I dont know what i should be feeling, i'm a bit rubbish at recognising whats going on with my body.

I have been looking on the net for fertility boosting foods, and they say almonds, walnuts, yams, blueberrys and brocoli.

We have booked a holiday for 13th April to Tunisia, i keep thinking that if i do get caught this month that i wont want to go.

My friend went to Egypt last year to celebrate getting pregant and ended up on a drip, luckliy she was fine and she has just had a little girl on 20th Feb (Isabella) i just worry that threres a lot of sickness and run's in those countrys which cant be good when your in the early stages.

If i do get caught (fingers crossed) i wont go, DH will be upset as we really do need a rest but baby is more important, we can go to Blackpool instead lol.

I think a bit of practice loving will do you and DH the world of good a little bit of stress relief.

I know excatley when I OV cause the pain I get is awful espescailly last time on the clomid.

I have been to Egypt and the food was awful not nice at all, but I understand where you are coming from and blackpool sounds just as nice lol.

My poor DH is not feeling very well he has a cough (which is so so annoying X() and he keeps sniffing which is really getting on my nerves but I know he cant help it.

He must have the 'MAN FLU' much worse than female flu.

I'm just going to prepare some dinner for tonight, loads of veg and blueberrys i think.

Sometimes i must admit i do get a little bit fed up and down, we have a room empty here for our little baby, i know i should never give up hope, but sometimes i look in the room and wonder if it will ever happen.

My DH is really good, when i get upset he tells me not to worry, we are really lucky, i have a daughter from when i was 16, she is now at Uni in Leeds, but i was so young and trying to cope as i was alone that i dont remember a lot of stuff.

And my DH has a son who is 7 we have him every weekend, so we are so lucky, it's just that i wish that now i'm finally totally settled that we could have a child together.

Sods law eh

Sods law eh

Hi Rachell....know what you mean about having a room for baby I always picture where everything would go, we have lived in our house nearly 5 years and its the only room that has never been decorated cause it will be the nursey, but then again we are in 2 minds weather to move house this year.

Its nice you having your DH little boy, my DH has a boy aged 16 and he doesnt stay anymore really he is always out with his mates which is a good thing for him, but we never see him only on a wednesday for tea. He bought me flowers for mothers day last year the only time he has ever done this and I cried for ages...thought it was sooooo nice of him and he got me a card too.

I blooming hate that cough medicine its makes me gag, my poor DH has a cough and I wont let him have any of mine...sounds daft even though I havent got a cough :snigger:, but he bought his own now

Oh well hun another day has passed for us we are both on CD8 I just cant wait till the 2WW is here and that draged in last time, but at least we have each other to rant to

How are you today

Good luck xxxxx

I'm really well, hope your ok, just looking forward to this weekend, i keep checking my CM and it looks fine as normal.

My DH is on his works social on Friday, so he will get well and truly drunk which is not good for his little swimmers, i think i will get him in the bathroom before he goes out :O

Mums day on Sunday hopefully thats a good omen :D for us.

Hi Hun, I took always look at prams, cots and everything really lol, we stop taking the medicine on Sunday but you should include the day of Ovulation so I am going to take it for an extra day.

you should get a ticker too hun, it helps me count down the days, and it also tell you after ovulation the count down until test day, i got mine from lilypie.com, it really easy to do, once you have picked your design you just copy the code, then just paste it into your profile signiture, if you get stuck I am sure Eeyore would help you out, she has done loads for people on here she is great that way.

I am really well today not at all grumpy in a good mood :snigger:, we are going to my mother in law's for tea, we go every wed when DH is on the right shift.

MY CM is the same too.... I got EWCM last time on CD10 last time but I am sure I Ovulated on CD13 cause of all the pain I was in.

You go girl on Friday better to jump on him before the drink , I am BD every other day from tomorrow, its so well planned out even DH said last night when we will BD

Hello,

I will try with the ticker had ago last night but didnt paste it into my signature as i'm a bit daft.

I will take the medicine the same as you, i have had my walnuts and bluberrys, honestly if someone told me to run down the high st naked i would do it if they promised i'd get pregnant.

My daughter 'Leah' is driving me potty she's 20 in April and desperate for a brother or sister, i'm not worried about the age gap as my mum had my brother when she was 43 (natural) and theres 20 years between me and him.

Saw an article saying that look at your maternal family history for pregnancy after 35 and it said that if your mum, grandmum had babies late that there shouldnt be a problem, my gran was 40 when she had my mum.

Maybe there is something in the females in my family that they get a fertility boost in there late 30's.

Hope the same will happen for me

Is there any fertility probs in your family?

Hello there,

Apparently the cough mixture thins the CM, when you have a chesty cough the GUAIPHENESIN in the cough mixture thins the mucus but not just on the chest, all mucus in the body including CM.

So for ladys who have little CM it thins it and hopefully makes a easier journey for the little swimmers :O

Funny you ask about fertilty problems my mam ttc with me for 5 years and she was just seeing a fertility consultant when she found out she was pregnant with me, and her mother was in her 30's and had my mam's brother at 40.

It will be lovely for your daughter wanting to have a brother or sister... she can help out loads.

I see you have a ticker great stuff ... mine is wrong it says I still have 7 days till OV but its only 5 cause I OV on day 13

Hi Leanne

Hope your ok today, i've just started work, and am about to take my medicine.

Just thinking in some of the articles that i have read, it says that the woman should always orgasm after the man? :O

That way the sperm can be pulled by the contraction of the orgasm?

Has anyone else heard that.

[FONT=courier new] :D Oh well, i'm not missing out, a girl needs to have a bit of fun, especially as we have the hardest job, what with the Clomid, the cough medicine, and everything else.

In fact the the most difficult thing my DH has had to do is give his sample and he wasnt very phased by that.

Hi Hunnie....we BD'd last night and I was so not in the mood, it was like oh come on before we get any more tired....I thought to myself Oh what we have to go through never mind bloody have a orgasm afterwards lol.

I am starting to feel pressure on my right side more today, so I hope it means I have a follicle on both sides, I have felt pressure on my left for days. I am getting scanned at 4pm so I just cant wait.

I watched a programme last night called Dawn gets a baby, it was a jornalist getting all the facts about chilbirth and attending a birth...it was very intresting

Hi there Leanne,

I havent really noticed anything as yet, gave strict orders to DH that i need his body prior to him going out tonight, :snigger:

He thankfully is always happy to oblige, i hope i do get some twinges like you, i think beacause i'm now currently a 26 day cycle since my hycosy, that i should be fertile on Monday.

Good luck for your scan, wish i was having one, i feel a little in the dark, i suppose i could pay to get scanned but i want to save the money for IUI if we have to go down that route.

I have been thinking and i'm going to try the clomid for 3 months and then try the IUI for 3 times, i think then that if we dont get pregnant that i will leave it.
