** AF after IVF/ICSI - chat & questions **

Hi everyone,

I started bleeding two days before test day (18th September) and am now on day 35 off cycle and the :witch: has not arrived yet (cycles are usually 28-30 days).
I take it this is normal after what your body has been through and its gonna be a bit mucked up but its so annoying waiting!!! Have now got the pains and i had the normal headache i get days ago but she did not show!
Its like another kick in the teeth really cos part of you thinks.......could i be pregnant?......but of course you probably are not (that happens to other people not me!! )
Any advice!!!?? (apart from tearing my hair out!!!!!) x x x

Hi Melissa,

this happened to me also :tear: has anyone told you that yours could be implant bleed though?

Don't rule it out yet you never know it could be xfingers for you. I did my test two days early then did it on the actual date and both were BFN.

my AF lasted over a week and it was really messy/mucky to say the least!!! (sorry tmi)

We had meeting with cons and he said if we are to try again we should aim for Jan so that the body gets enough time to recover.

:goodluck:please keep me posted.

Hi Melissa, this sounds quite normal to be honest. It is very stressful waiting for that 'normal' AF to come though. Cos deep down you do still feel that there is a little hope, no matter how remote. Hope you feel better soon chick. x

how is it going? have you had AF yet?
if not why not take a test hun, you have fell natually before so there is every possible chance, have you called the clinic to see if this is normal?
anyway ive not started stimms yet coz hormone level was on boarderline so been delayed a week, i start menopur on 29th.. 4 bottles for the first 4 days then 3 bottles for 3 days .. i nearly fell off my chair when they asked for £500.00 for just 8 days worth of medicine! so in total 4 grand we just wrote a cheque out for.. thanks to poor peters dad!
anyway got my fingers and toes crossed for you and keep me informed!

Light AF? Is this normal?

Hi everyone,

Is it normal for your first AF after the bleed on a failed cycle to be light? Mine are usually heavier for the first few days and then gradually gets lighter.I bled for ten days after my failed IVF cycle and now i am on day 5 of my first 'normal' bleed and to be honest its not much to what im used too!!?? Kinda nice but wondering if its ok??? Any ideas? x x x

RE: No af....Help

Hi Nicole

AFs can often be unpredictable after IVF so I wouldn't worry at this stage at being a few days late. I know plenty that have waited a long time - of course it's frustrating because you're waiting and ready to go for your FET but there's very little you can do I'm afraid honey.

Call your clinic if it doesn't turn up in a week or two and see what they advise.

First AF after BFN

Hi Guys,

Well AF turned up a few days after my BFN, but has lasted three days and sorry if TMI, but there has been hardly anything, way less than I would have had normally and I kind of expected a lot, if you know what I mean?

Any ideas??

I think there are lots of variations in how women's af's appear after treatment. some are heavy some are not, some are 'on time' some have to wait up to 6 weeks before it arrives. I think the best thing is to go with the flow (pardon the pun!) Whatever happens is probably right for you. Hopefully in the next couple of months your cycle will slot back into it's normal routine, however 'normal' it normally is for you....if you catch my drift!

I have had 3 cycles of IVF, and each time was different hun. Hope this helps!

Mine is taking ages too, I am going straight into my next cycle after the failed one, and went for my 21 day appointment, hoping that it was a week after ovulation, but I hadn't even ovulated. Just had more blood taken today (day 28 ) and hoping that it shows ov has happened within the last week. It does seem it's pretty normal for all the extra hormones to mess things up a bit.

Hi Bouncy,

I know it's a diff situation, but after my ectopic and surgery, I didn't bleed at all, even tho my lining had been really thick (waiting for the baby to arrive). But when I got my AF a couple of weeks ago, it was heavier and lasted longer.

Not much help, but sometimes it's useful to know other people's experiences.

We had ICSI about 6 weeks ago which wasnt a success. Anyway, had 1st af 2 weeks after e/c collection and now no sign of 2nd af! I am normally a 25/26 day cycle and now on day 29. I know its not that late but I am panicking that I am not gonna get any more a/fs and have hit early menopause or something! Would be just my luck. Plus, normally have really achey boobs for a few days before a/f and have nothing. Had a/f pains last Fri and Sat but no sign. Just wondered if anyone else has had this and if normal??
Thanks girls.

Hi Mel, it is perfectly normal for af's to play up after treatment. Sometimes it takes the hormones a while to settle down and behave again so try not to worry too much. You might get 6 or 8 weeks with no af then things will slot back into place.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mel

Mrs Smiff's absolutely right hon. Some people's cycles fall back into place quickly, other's need a bit more time getting back to "normal". This is why a lot of clinics like a couple of AFs after a bleed after IVF to ensure hormone levels are regulated again.

I don't know how well you know your body but I can pretty well always tell when I've ovulated. In some respects, knowing that I've ovulated takes the stress out of waiting for AF as I know it will come 14 days-ish after ovulating. I know not everyone knows/has the signs has the signs though.

It's just a question of being patient I'm afraid. I hope AF shows up soon honey.

Hi
I am in the same boat. I had ec and then the embies frozen due to ohss. waiting for af now ready to start fet but I am now 4 weeks and 2 days late but have had ovulation pains the last few days so as duffymoon says i am expecting af soon. I think the whole ivf thing messesup your hormones so anything can happen and everyone is different. Hope this helps i think af will come when youjr body is ready :xxx3:

Af after abandoning - round 2!

Hi ladies - hope everyone's having a sunny weekend :D

Just wondered if anyone could answer a question for me?

A few weeks ago we had to abandon our 1st tx due to the risk of OHSS. I had a Prostap injection and af arrived 1 week later.

I posted a thread on here then cos I was a bit concerned that af had come earlier than expected. Lots of you girls were fantastic as usual and reassured me that everything was normal.

Anyway, that was over 6 weeks ago and 2nd af has not arrived. I'm assuming its just cos of the Prostap but wondered if anyone has had similar? Keep getting af symptoms but then they go away again.

Thanks xxx
Catherine

Hi Ozzy
Exactly the same is happening to me.I am now 5 weeks and 2 days late waiting for my second af so I would say it sounds pretty normal. The clinic told me the prostap takes 3 months to leave your system.I am getting impatient now as I need af to start so I an start the process for my fet. Are you at Jimmys? :xxx3:

Hi again Nicole, yes we're at Jimmy's. I think its 6 weeks and 2 days since last af so not sure how late I am cos my cycles go from 28 - 32 days. Its reassuring to know someone else is in the same situation but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that yours comes soon so you can start tx.

Have you been getting signs that af is on its way? I've been convinced its coming for a couple of weeks but still waiting!

Yes I thought I had ovulation pains last week but have also had pains today but nothing has happened as yet. I dont know if you remember but we had to abandon after ec because I developed ohss so I really want af to start so my frosties can be put back where they belong. You must be anxious to start your new cycle aswell :xxx3:

Yeah I remember you replied to my original thread about OHSS when I had to abandon. You must be frustrated now, knowing they're waiting for you?

We have our follow-up appointment 30th June and I was really hoping I'd have had 3 cycles by then but that's not going to happen now!

They told me they wanted 3 cycles but i managed to convince them 2 would be fine. I think the prostap is out of my system as it was giving me really hot flushes and they have now stopped. Its all a waiting game isnt it? Are they going to monitor you more closley this time? :xxx3:

I assume so. The nurse I saw at my last appointment wasn't sure if they'd just do another nurse consultation at my next appointment and start me off on a lower dose straight away and do earlier scans, or if the consultant would want to see us.

I'm hoping they'll just start again on a lower dose. When af finally shows her stupid face!

So are you 5 weeks late or is it 5 weeks since your first af?

5 weeks since second af was due. My stomach is really bloated though and seems to be getting worse I dont know if this is normal or not. My stomach was so bloated with the ohss that I was wondering if my ovaries were swelling again with ovulation or something. What do you think? Are you under Mrs Sharma.I think we are going to get her to do our fet lost a bit of faith in Liz and Elissa since the ohss. :xxx3:
