Changing Clinics - Notes Dilema

Hi,

I'm hoping that someone can help me come to a decision about whether to get copies of our notes from our clinic.

We are going to see another consultant on the 22nd June as we have not been happy where we are, the problem is, do we get copies of our notes and take them with us when we go on the 22nd so they will be able to make their decision as to the best course of treatment for us, or do we go to the new clinic and start from scratch???

What we don't want to do is get copies, raise their suspicions as to why we are, and then have to go back there if the new clinic will not treat us???

What would you do in our position??

Thank you for your help

Personally I would get copies so that your new consultant can see what treatment/tests you've had so far and also what kind of response you have had so that they can potentially avoid any of the same mistakes.

If you get a copy of your notes then your current clinic is unlikely to turn you down if you come back because they are a business and they don't really care what you do providing you pay their bill at the end of it.

Good luck

I'm pretty sure that your original clinic would need to keep a copy of your notes whatever happens hun so copies would be your only option

You can get a copy of your notes (they may charge for it) - but they will keep your original notes, so you could go back if you wanted...

I would say get copy of your notes and all test results - it may save some time if the new clinic accepts you as you may be able to skip repeating some of the tests. Request them ASAP as it can sometimes take a bit of time to get the notes...

Hey,

I used to work in a solicitors and they have to provide you with the notes within 40 days of receipt of a letter of request. You also need to put a form of authorty to say that you are requesting the notes and sign it.

They can charge up to £50 (to include the cost of photocopying and postage) but no more. Usually if the patient requests them they charge about £10.

Make sure you ask about cost. And keep a note of dates because they will try to drag it out.

If you want I'll speak to a mate who still works there and find out exactly and get some wording for you.

PM me if you do and I'll get onto it.
