How many follies?

Hi ladies,

Just wondering how many leading follies you've all had in your IUI cycles and what size they were? I'm concerned that I'm not responding well to the meds or that perhaps I'm not taking enough? (am on 150 mg menopur every other day) and that my IUI is being carried out too early simply because the hosp is only open 5 days a week. On 2 out of 3 occasions we've had to have the trigger and insem on the same day.

So far I've had 3 IUI cycles and just wondered how everyone else has responded. For each of the 3 goes I've only ever had 1 leading follie (1st - 17mm, 2nd - 20mm, 3rd - 17mm). I worry that just one follie, the bad timing of IUI and small size of my follies have greatly reduced our chances.

I would really appreciate info on your experiences please? x

Hey

I had 4 follies but not sure on the size's, all I know that I was ready.
Everyone is different and can get BFP on 1 follie.

I also had insem on day 10 as the sperm lives in your body for up to 9 days so come day 14 they will be poised ready for take off.:o).

I'm sorry I cant help anymore, this is my 1st tx cycle so I'm stil learning.

KJ - 1 follicle is actually all they want to see. Most clinics will abandon if you have 3 or more follies.
I had 2 follicles on one cycle and on the others only had 1 follicle and my successfull cycle was with one follie
Cycle 1: abandoned - no follies
Cycle 2: 18mm
Cycle 3: 17 and 18mm
Cycle 4: abandoned - no follies
Cycle 5: 21mm
Cycle 6: 19mm
Cycle 7: 18mm - BFP
My IUI was always exactly 35 hours after trigger.
I think your sizes are fine - I am more puzzled by the same day insem. But then they say that sperm can survive up to 7 days inside of you so if insem is done early and you only ovulate up to 2 days after that then the sperm is ready and waiting and only the strongest ones will be there ready to fertilize your egg.

Hey you

I had two follies, one on each side with the 4 IUI's and they all measured between 17mm & 20mm. I think 1 of them went up to 21mm. I was on Gonal F 75.

Trigger shot was a day and half before insemination, so about 30 odd hours.

Rene is right, they can survive that long, and that was also confirmed by my doc.

:hugs:

Thanks ladies for taking the time to respon....think I was beginning to blame it on the process and my response rather than accepting that IUI won't always work for everyone...

KayJay was glad you started this thread as I was wondering the same thing. When I had my first IUI I had only one main follice which was if remember correct 34mm hope I remember that right. It don't seem I had any others so I'm hopeing the next time I do my 2nd cycle that the meds help me produce more follices. I'm don't want just one but like to see 3 so I've been praying that it will work better next time.

KayJay I will keep my fingers crossed for you hun..

Hi girls,

I'm having my first IUI ever on Monday due to poor reponse of IVF - well I say poor, one responded with one huge fat follicle and the other with three tiny ones so it's all over the place.

I guess it's just pot luck - I'm having the HCG (?) injection 35 hours before so hopefully this will help - till then won't know the size of the thing!

wish me luck....
