negative result-ovulation testing

Hello everyone, could someone try & answer my question that i have,i've just had a bloodtest done to check to see if i'm ovulating (day 21) in the meantime i also have been doing ovulation test every day,but so far has been negative,if it's a negative doing a ovulation test, surely it would show up negative in a bloodtest?
I have been doing ovulation testing since day 14,i am now into day 24.
Any idea's anyone!!!!

RE: negative result-ovulation testing

Hi there,
To be honest, OPK are a bit dodge at least they were for me.
They seem to work really well for some and not for others.
I used to use them and got very random readings. Just cause the OPK did not pick it up a surge in LH hormone does not mean you are not ovulating. Equally you could be getting a positive result on the OPK and not be ovulating. So they are not an exact science merely an indicator.
Other than testing by your consultant, the best way to know if you are ovulating is by taking your BBT.

Hope this helps.

I never had blood tests but when was on drugs e.g clomid or puregon (iui) I used opks. Think if you are anticipating 28-30 day cycle you should probably have started opks earlier? The hormone being looked for peaks between day 10-14 then. I was also told by my cons that even though the packets say 24-36 hours before ovulation you will get a line, is more like 48 if testing properly eraly in the morning etc, so should be bd ing then for best chances.

If you have pcos and are not on meds or do not have a regular cycle then opks become very expensive and are unreliable.

hope I haven't confused you more!

What make of tests are you using?

I get - cheap tests and + clearblue digital ones...
Are you temping too?

You can ovulate without a + test.

I seem to ovulate between day 17 and 28 so keep on testing!

Hi Jo101,
i haven't been doing BBT,I thought i would try the ovulation test to see if i could get pg that way,all i get is just one line.i'll see what the bloodtest results are when they get in.

Hello Dwarf,
I do not have a regular cycle, sometimes i could be 4 days late-1wk late or even 2wks late,so it hard to know when i am ovulating,or if i am,i don't have pcos just haven't manged to get pg in 2 yrs.

Hello Torisen,
The ovulation strips i bought from ebay,25 for like £3 something,i thought it would be cheaper that way,cos clearblue ovulation tests are expensive, and i'll keep on testing, fingers crossed.

sometimes reflexology or acupuncture can help regulate cycles. Has your gp or cons spoken to you about any other things they can do in your pct?

BLOOD RESULTS

Hi All,Butterfly Here,
Just thought i would let you know i have had the results back for day 21 of my cycle,i think it was a ovulation test,or progesterone test, it came back "normal",
so i suppose that means i'm ovulating,no need for doc app, they didn't really say much about it,it was a receptionist that gave me the results.
Anyone got any ideas what this means??.i',m really not quite sure,i wish they would go into more detail, but what does receptionist's know,Not Much about what results mean!!

Butterfly, I use the cheep ones and get nothing and then the clearblue ones in the same urine sample and get a positive...
Might be worth the 22 pounds extra to get the digital ones...

Do you have the green handled fertilityplan ones?

If your day 21 progesterone test came back as 'normal' then, yes, that suggests you are ovulating successfully - which is good :D

ttc since July 06. 8 cycles of clomid. BFP on cycle 5 (Dec 07) ended in m/c at 9.5 weeks. Second BFP on cycle 8 (May 08)

Hi Torisen,
I know it would be better to use clearblue ones, are they re-useable?,as i don't have much money,no i don't have the green handled fertilityplan ones.
