Update

Hello everyone,
It is all going on, it has taken my an hour almost to catch up on the gossip...Minnie, you've got the go ahead, great, very sensible I think to wait until you're settled after xmas, stress is not good for ttc.
Lisa & Sar26, you're moving ahead with your next IUIs. Jenny, you're on for insem tomorrow and everyone else..
Hello fellow IVFers, Flori, Lori and Moomin - what news re: your start date?
Hello to everyone else.
I have started my injections, I start stimming today having already d/r. My FSH this month was 8 so the clinic were happy with that, and I was, it is the lowest it has been for a while!! My monitor scan is Tue morning and if all goes to plan I could be in theatre this time next week having my eggs removed...can't believe it...I will keep you all informed of progress.

p.s. very happy with CARE clinic

Hi Jojo

Glad all is going well for you, and good luck with the rest of your IVF treatment.

I have got my IVF appointment on 29th December, not sure when we will start after that..... I am sure I will need to have bloods etc done before we go for it....

Ideally I'd like to start end of January but probably will be end of Feb.. but will keep you posted.

Take care and keep us posted as to how you get on

Hello everyone,
Just got back from my day 8 scan today and had 15 follies ranging from 15mm to 8mm, my lining was 12mm, the drs are very happy with that and to quote them "the perfect response" so we're just hoping the rest of the treatment goes the same way. I am back for another scan on Thursday and they anticipate egg collection being on xmas eve.
So not so bad having highish FSH, this month was 8 and I produced 15 so that is encouraging for anyone who has the same. Although the crunch time is when it comes to egg collection as the follies may not contain eggs of course!! Still, will worry about that when the time comes. I have elected to have the general anesthetic as I don't want to know that 5 people or more are all fertiling around my bits and pieces !!
How's everyone else? Lisa, started downregging yet? To be honest I had a few hot flushes during the night when i started but other than that, nothing to report.
I have to confess that I haven't totally abstained from alcohol, I had 3 glasses of wine at the weekend, not on the same day though, one Fri/Sat and Sun. I will keep off it during this week though as no temptation but when w'end comes I really fancy a glass. So far, it doesn't seem to have done me any harm...I am going to book a massage for Thursday to get rid of a few toxins and eat lots of onions too...I read this morning that onions, cabbage and apples contain the highest antioxidants so fill up girls..
Lots of luck

Hi Jo!

Great news about your follies - well done you!!!

Glad they're really pleased, do you feel less anxious now you've had the scan and you are comfortable on your way?

I started Downregging this weekend. Hopeing IUI will be on the 19th Jan! Glad you havn't felt too poorly on it all.

If they do EC on Xmas eve, will ET be on Tuesday?

Good for you having a massage. Does make you feel so much better when you come out. I had one last thursday as my friend has just employed a new beauty therapist in her salon. Definately recommended!

Tons and tons of luck to you both

Hello there,
Had another scan today, good news was I still have 15 follicles, slow growing though so no ec on xmas eve, it is booked for boxing day instead. My biggest follie was 18mm followed by 17mm x 3 and a range right down to 10mm. I am now worried sick as they don't want to see me again before egg collection and I think that's worrying as I could ovulate on my own, or my larger follies could be too mature by the time Monday comes :( it's 4 days away. I am sure they know what they're doing but even so I thought they would at least see me on Saturday to check all was ok. DH has bought us some OPKs just in case so I am going to use them Sat/Sun to make sure..Mrs Paranoid... My eggs are so precious with my high FSH. Feeling a bit poo all round, sickly, dizzy, tired - not much fun over xmas. told the family I have an ovarian cyst and having it drained on boxing day as we've not told anyone about IVF as too much pressure and we're supposed to do the family thing of course...
Going to have a glass of wine tonight to relax if I am not too sickly.
Happy xmas everyone

hiya Jojo

sorry to hear you're feeling a bit poorly & that things have been delayed a bit. I'm sure they know what they are doing & it will all be for the best. Aren't the drugs meant to stop you from ov'ing on your own? I hope you manage to enjoy Christmas & that all goes well on boxing day.

take care

love Flori xx

Jo

Dont worry too much about the timing - they have done it all loads of times before remember.

We had our final follie scan on a Friday morning and EC on the Tuesday with no contact or scans by the clinic in between. So that's about the same time for you - don't panic (yeah right, easier said than done I know!). They did give us really precise times to take the last HCG (Pregnyl) injection - 35 hours before EC. My follies were about the same size as the ones you have detailed - I had 12 follies and they got 9 eggs, although only 7 were mature (I had FSH of 4.5 as well). As far as I am aware, its this hormone that makes you ovulate and you are unlikely to produce it naturally if you are down regged properly.

The numbers do go down at every stage, but you only need one to work!

Hope things go well, and try and enjoy christmas before EC day.

Hi Jo

I think it's a good idea to try to relax with a glass of wine! You have to try to find things that make you happy to keep you sane during all this!!

Try not to worry too much about remaining on the stimulation over the Xmas period until EC.
Are you using the 'sniffers' called Buserelin ? This is the downregulation part of your cycle. This drug controls the pituitary gland that would normally stimulate your body to increase levels of LH to make you ovulate... it keeps the levels of both LH and FSH low so ovulation can't take place.

If IVF is the same as my OI's and IUI's, you would stop sniffing the Buserelin the same day as you take the 'trigger' hCG shot. Then the body stops halting the piturity gland and allows the body to produce LH to make the eggs mature. They will then be collected before your body ovulates

Hi, Thanks for being so supportive, I really do appreciate it. Bookworm your experience has put my mind at rest that they know what they are doing and hey it worked for you, like you said it only takes one! Thanks.
Well I went out for a drink, I spent 2hrs with the same glass of wine, funny how when you haven't had it for a while you go off it, I just didn't fancy it but at least I wasn't stopping myself so no stress as a result.
Lisa, I do take burserelin right up to the HCG shot so that stops me ovulating then, I guess if I keep taking that I shouldn't go early, just nervous I guess as first time. I can see why so many woman have more success second time round.
Flori, hun, will be you soon and hope to help you along the way with my experiences.
Thanks again

Hi Jo
I've been catching up on your thread and wanted to wish you good luck for Boxing Day. Heres hoping that next Christmas you will be a mummy. It's good to hear its going so well.

I'm considering using Care in Manchester for our treatment so it's nice to hear that you've been impressed with their service. They do have a very good reputation and success rates. They would be great for me 'cos I work in Fallowfield so I could have scans etc on the way to work.

Can you tell me where you had your NHS IUI? Sorry to be nosey but it looks like we will have to wait 3 years for it on the NHS. As I understand it the only place that does it is the specialist reproductive medicine unit at St Marys with the endless waitning list. If you know of any other places we might be able to go, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi Cathy,
I work in Fallowfield too!! Like you say it is easy to call for scans etc as it is just up the road. CARE have been brilliant so far I have to say, we had been to two other clinics, we had our IUIs at St Mary's and I don't know why but we didn't have to wait at all, we had our consultation with Dr Pease and she said call which ever month you want at the time, 2 yrs ago, there wasn't a waiting list. I guess we struck lucky. But as you can see none of them worked, we used frozen sperm though as DH frozen some before he had chemo for cancer and the frozen stuff only gave us 8% success rate, which is poor. We then had a couple of IUIs with Manchester Fertility Services and we didn't rate them I am afraid, felt a bit money driven and not much caring for the patient. As soon as we walked in to CARE it just felt different, the drs have been amazing and very understanding. Not to mention they don't close over christmas! Let me know if you want any other advice.
Moomin, good luck for your appointment in 6 days, wow can't wait to hear what they say. Keep us posted.

terrible news - 16 eggs retrieved and none fertilised, not one. Can't believe it. We're doing ok, we were treating the first cycle as exploratory so we're bearing up. We'll arrange a follow-up appointment in a couple of week and I guess try ICSI next time.
I hope you all have better luck

JoJoJo,

So sorry to read your news, you must be devastated to get so far, and then fall at this hurdle. There is no exact science to this tx, you would have thought with 16 eggs there would be no worries, I hope your follow-up can shed some light as to why this happened. At least you can make one major change for the next cycle by doing ICSI. Sending you some big ((((hugs)))).

Jojo,

BUGGER!!! that is all I can say. Like you say though at least you know at the follow up they will be giving you a plan of action for the next cycle. Think of it as a major step towards your goal rather than anything negative. I know it must be an anticlimax but next time you will know exactly what to expect and will be prepared, ready and eager to tackle it all head on. At least you had 16 eggs, that is a great start!!!
