Gonadotrophin Injections

Hi Everyone.

After 3 years of trying for a baby, I have now started on Gonadotrphin injections -100, started on 29/10//13. Followed by Cetrotide commencing on 1/11/13. I injected this morning on the top if my leg as directed by my Nurse, As I looked down at the dial to make sure it had all been release, the small needle bent. So i pulled it out, The dial was on 0, so my husband reassured me it all went in ok, But every day I have had a small drip of the medication on the needle when retracting it. I feel I am completely doing it wrong.

Any tips or info??

Many thanks

hi im not aware of those injections but sounds similar to using insulin

try counting slowly to 10 with needle still in & then remove. its inevitable that there will be a slight drop noted x

You do get the drip on the skin after injecting I found I was getting quite a lot the secret is to press and hold the pen (if you're using the pens) in your skin for ten seconds before pulling the needle out that stops any leakage.

Good luck

Hi

I always used to stress about that final drop but was reassured that it would make absolutely no difference. There is a built in tolerance with these things, so please don't worry.

Good luck with your cycle.

Thank you all so much, I'm using the pen, Which is straight forward. But I'm definitely stressing and being paranoid! I have also come out in small red raised spots all over my front. They say Hives is a common reaction. Has anyone else had this? I think my injections is Gonal F for short??

It's a very scary process, I'm so glad I have found this page to help. :)

Hello Forster88

I have ammenorrhea and did not respond to clomid, so to induce ovulation I hadhad Gonal F injections plus a trigger shot for ovulation. That sounds to be exactly what you are having?

I was also told that losing a bit from a jab doesn't matter. One time I underdosed as I ran out of pens and the hospital said that didn't matter either. You should be being closely monitored to see the progress of your ovaries' reaction to the stimulation so the worst that could happen is that it takes slightly longer to get the desired response. But even that wouldn't happen from losing a little drop - only if you've underdosed like I did.

I have had two cycles of Gonal f and each time it took me a while to start responding - so I was ovulating on at least day 21 instead of day 14 like a normal cycle. So don't be disheartened if the same happens to you. The great thing about this treatment is that they monitor you through the cycle and change the dosage according to what they can see happening in your ovaries. It's very bespoke!

There's an injectables chat thread on this forum under "clomid and ovulation induction". I think it's quiet in there at the moment but you might enjoy reading back through others' experiences. There are a fair few success stories in there. I am glad to report that of my two cycles I've ended up with two lovely little boys! I'm incredibly lucky. I hope that the treatment brings you some happy news too!

I am not able to help with the hives I'm afraid. I hope it's settles down. Have you tried taking an antihistamine? Perhaps you can ask your clinic whether that would be appropriate?

All the best for your treatment!!!

are you doing iui or ivf? regardless if its gonal f, there is always a little bit of drip/blob after, even if you keep in for 10 seconds ..dont worry , you are doing everything right. as long as it has gone to zero you are fine.

There are many places on here for support. If you are cycling with ivf or even iui there are cycle buddies boards - you would be november…so go to main page on the forum and find cycle buddies and november and you will find lots of people at the same stage as you…we are a friendly bunch :D

Did you call them? You can probably get some more if you've run out. often they give you less in the first place so a whole pen isn;t wasted if opened and not used. Doesn't sound long until Ec though :D Good luck :)

Hiya!!

Yeah, I called them early this morning, She felt pretty confident that there is enough for 100 each day. As below the '0' there is more fluid. So, I did my 100 after talking to her and then dialled it to 100 again ( She said if this dials up to 100 then there is enough), it worked so fingers crossed. I go back Friday at 8.30 for a scan and if all go wells I have EC on monday.
This is my first time around for this treatment. I had 1 months dose of Clomid in Jan '13, this was before my husbands sperm count came back as zero.. We later found out he had a blockage which is why he had a trial Peasa in September, collecting 3 tubes which were frozen.
I'm staying positive, But not getting my hopes up just incase. They said I don't need much stimulation as I have alot of eggs ( although both sides are a little polycystic).
