Pessaries ... how?

In all of my 34 years on this planet I have never had to use pessaries and when I do IUI they like to use progesterone pessaries after the sperm has been injected into uterus for the 2ww. How do you insert them and how do they get up there? mmm

Confused of England!!!

Hi Lorraine

Yeah they go in easy enough - tip - dont worry when they melt as the stuff it actually absorbed pretty quickly its just the gunk that melts and comes out. I always used the front door but they will probably tell you where to put it. (you just pop it in like you would a tampax). I always put mine in then lay down for 20mins.

Good luck to you hun

I could not use pessaries, hated the waxy feeling so used the gel instead!

I used to do my morning one via the back passage as I really did not have the time to lie down after inserting it and the evening one up the front. I did learn to wear some sanitary protection after the first few as the gunk that gets left on your knickers is horrid...

Hi, Mouse
I used progesterone pessaries for my first few IUI's because I was not producing enough progesterone on my own, and for the ladies who downregulate before stimms they also don't produce enough to ensure a pregnancy will be maintained. After my ovarian drilling my blood tests showed that my levels were much improved after ovulation (I still used stimms) and I no longer needed to use them.
So, if you had a natural cycle, or did not downreg then you should not need to use the pessaries.

It says on the leaflet I got given (not started IUI yet btw) that the pessaries are to increase the lining to help sustain a pregnancy.

So if I have to have gunk then gunk it is!!! But will take note of tip to wear sanitary towels coz of that!!

Lorraine
Am on the 2ww now hun and we have to do one in the am and pm so I do one before bed and one after I've showered etc. Have to say hun I find the back door easier, no mess at all. Using the front way leaves a mess of ick in your knickers. I am up and walking etc when it's done so I don't need to lie down until it's absorbed.
It was pretty 8o to be doing it that way at first but it's much easier now.

I had never used them before IVF and was told to use the backdoor. It was fine and I didn't have any leaking at all. Just lost the outer shell gooey bit when I pooped!

Hi, have been using the pessaries - for the first time in my life too! One thing to note, i have colitus so was told not to use the back door so to speak!
Just embarking on first IUI - this is my first look on the form but thanks as previous replies answered loads of questions and worries I had (could not work out why I was leaking wax at first!!!)

Glad you like FZ rebecca.

You've probably been using them for a while now, but just in case. I kept my pessaries in the fridge, so when I did pop them up my jacksy they didn't melt on my fingers! My clinic said best in the back door as absord better into system. Strange sensation when poping in, but as soon as it's in it's forgotten.

Yeah, you do get used to the little pellats, have taken to keeping them in the fridge too Peanut since I read that somewhere on here.

I think back door is easier and less messy, on the odd night I will do front just for the sake of it. :eyebrows:

I will look forward to that immensely mmm - will remember to put in fridge when I start IUI hopefully February 2007 but that all depends how quickly I get fit after back and lose some weight. Its not moving very fast so I'm trying to hope that I'll be better by Xmas. IUI is very much in forefront of my mind. As hospital is a 30 min train journey plus bus journey away and I will be at hospital A LOT I have to be realistic so February 2007 is a goal but if it moves then at latest I know when I do start I will be as fit and well as I can be.
