2 embries back at day 3 or 1 day 4? What are the benefits for day 4?

Hi guys just a quicky we are on day 3 tomorrow morning and still got 8 going strong (3 borderline though) so 5 really. We asked about going to day 4 if they were doing well, but is that worth the risk or not?. This is our 3rd cycle and we have always had day 3 transfer with 2 embries.
Are there any benefits of risking going to day 4 or not?? Confused help ! X ?o(

Hi Mistykins
My clinic only do day 2, day 3 & day 5 transfers as ive been told something important happens at day 4, which means they cant be touched. Cant remember what it is, but hopefully someone else will come along & help.
Sounds like you have lots of good embies still going. Wishing you all the luck in the world.

I was never offered day 4 transfers either.....just day 2, 3 or 5.

Go with your instinct and nothing else. If your instinct is to get those little ones back as soon as possible, then bugger what anyone else says about having a day 5 transfer. I had a day 5 transfer the first time and then day 2 for the other two cycles. My first cycle resulted in a chemical pregnancy and, well, you know the story of my other two cycles. If you feel a strong need to go for day 5, then do it. There are risks and benefits to both courses of action - day 2 aren't as mature and perhaps you may use one that might not have survived if you had let it go to day 5, BUT....are they better in the womb earlier??? If you go for day 5, you may not have any left to transfer. It's a nightmare right?! I almost felt fortunate that I didn't get the choice to be honest!

I so want this to work out for you guys x

Hi misty

I was offered day 3 or day 4 transfer, i was told if they waited until day 4 they would be able to select the highest quality embroies, seeing as i only had 2 and i wanted 2 transfered we went with day 3 transfer. I gave my embrologist a ring and spoke to her about this in depth, why dont you contact them and speak to them???

Girls thanks for that feel better now. They haven't really done many 4 day transfers she said 5 in the last couple months and 3 out of the 5 are pregnant. They won't go to day 5 as it falls on a Saturday and they don't do procedures on a Saturday!.
I guess will have to see what the phone call brings today, but you guys are swaying my to have it today incase they can't get the best tomorrow or we lose them. Oh the dilemma Ay :snigger: . Thanks again for all advise xxx

I am a great believer in day 2 and day 3 embies but you have to go with what you believe.

When they call give yourself a little time to think what you want to do. Ten mins won't make any difference.

Good luck with whatever you decide.x

I am very surprised they will not take it to day 5 just because it is Saturday???? Never heard of that. My clinic used to do Sundays, holidays ... what ever was needed.
From the research we have done and what we were told, on they four the embryo is in a stage called morula. It has lots of cells all compacted together so it is almost imposible to tell which one is better quality than other.
Some new research says that they are able to identify the best embryos on day 3 but from personal experience I think that only on day 5 you realy know if the embryo is going to do what it is meant to do. Some embryos are not able to get past day four and stay at the stage of morula even that they look pretty on day 3. Even with our donor egg cycle, where you would assume the eggs were good quality only 3 out of 7 made it to day 5. But out of the 3 two have implanted so I am very greatful and belive in transfer on day 5 when the embryos are in the stage of a blastocyst.
But at the end of the day it is your decision and your decision only. You need to be happy with what ever you decide.
Good luck hon xxx

Oh hun it's such a tough decision but only one you can make. As you can see from the replies, day 2 and day 3 have worked for some, whereas day 4 or blasts have worked for others. I totally agree with what Sunnybee says re embryo development as I read up on it a lot when I was doing IVF and for me personally my day 3 embryos didn't result in pregnancy  but my blastocyst did. I have never heard of day 4 transfers tbh and not sure if my clinic did them or not but they did always push for day 3 transfers, even though they were happy to freeze some at day 5, they seemed reluctant to do a fresh transfer on day 5 ?(

Anyway, go with your instinct hun, as Hayley has said. I think if it's meant to be it's meant to be. I have everything crossed for you. If it was me personally I would probably go for 2 at day 3 because I just reason the more in there the better the chance, rather than having just the 1 but at the end of the day it really does depend on that little embryo (or embryos) and whether or not they continue to develop.

Good luck and can't wait to hear your update.

Girls thank you sooooo much I have read over everyone's advise and it has helped me decide we on our way to the clinic now for 2 day 3 embries to be put back in both grade 1/2 one 9 cell and one 8 cell. They said they already knew these 2 were the front runners so they didn't think 24 hours would make much difference on picking the best out.
They are letting the other 6 carry on to day 5 Saturday to decide which to freeze. 3 of them are borderline but we may get a couple frozen xfingers xxx

Hey Misty

I think it's a good decision, sounds exactly the same situation as ours, if they can already tell which 2 are strongest then what's the point in waiting and putting them back later, better they're in you in their natural environment!

So by now you should be PUPO!! Congrats, how exciting!

Now the fun really begins ;)

Hi Miss Pupo!!!

I think you have done the best thing, get those little babes back where they belong. No matter what happens now, don't look back. If they are meant to be they will be here in 9 months and waiting til day 5 won't have made a difference.

I am wishing with all my heart that this is your time. You so deserve this honey and I have everything crossed for the next 2 weeks xx
