I agree, Kara's definately the person to ask :D

I've had 2 Ivf ( icsi ) at Cardiff and can only praise them. They are a lovely team of docs, nurses and have an excellent success rate.
We're hoping to do a FET after xmas there.

Good luck xxx

RE: IVF Wales

We went to IVF Wales privately (then called Cardiff Assisted Reproduction Unit or CARU) back in 2005/06 and had investigations - which revealed I had endometriosis and my DH had a low sperm count.

I had a Lap & Dye in November 2005 and we conceived our DS naturally in MArch 2006 (after 2 years of trying).

We're now waiting to go back to see Mr Amso as we're trying for number 2 and again having no success. Unofrtunately we're stuck with the NHS this time around as can't afford to raise the money for private treatment/IVF etc, so we're just hoping for more diagnostic tests and advice on ttc naturally . . .

I am at IVF Wales too, and as you can see from my ticker had a great outcome from them! I have had two ICSI's there and two elsewhere and I can honestly say they are great. I am under Janet Evans and she is one of the nicest specialists I have come across. Gives you no bull and tells you like it is, which is just what you need!

Hi all, I am at IVF Wales too, and I have to say my experience with them so far has been appalling.

In November 2007 I had a lap and dye, and it was discovered both my tubes were blocked quite badly. This was at the Royal Glammorgan and the consultant there said she would refer me to IVF Wales for IVF.

A year later, just before christmas last year, we had not heard a thing. We had been waiting patiently, getting on with things, trying not to worry, but I decided to give them a call to find out how far along we were. They said they had no record for us, and we had not been referred. A year wasted for nothing!!! I had to get the receptionist at the Royal Glam to fax them a copy of the referal, but then had to wait a further 3 months for an appointment! At the appointment, we were told there was no way we could be put forward on the waiting list as they had already spent thier budget for 2008/2009 and we would have to wait atleast another 6 months.

I was so upset by this I did sink into a kind of depression, and my partner and I split up because I was taking my anger and frustrations out on him. I dont think I need to explain to anyone here how the pressure of infertility etc can effect a relationship.

We got back together after just a week....we love eachother too much to really be apart, but he was so convinced it was over (I am ashamed of the things I said to him, so hateful) he had called the clinic and cancelled. I didnt blame him for this, he needed it, at that moment in time, to be over.

He called back and asked if we could get back on the list, and we had an appointment made for July.

I made an official complaint to IVF Wales about the referal going astray. Then I recieved another letter stating out appointment had been delayed to August. In anger, I emailed them and added this to my complaint and demanded a response.

I got one on saturday, yesterday when I got home from work a package was waiting for me, containing consent forms, a DVD, and an appointment for July the 6th stating we are now at the top of the list!!!

It seems that because it has been so long since our fertility tests (semen anaylsis, hormone profile etc) we have to do all of these again, which I am REALLY not happy about especially as we shopuld have been starting this a long time ago...but at this stage I will do whatever it takes to speed things along and get the treatment started.

Oh I waffled a bit there, sory for the rant lol....guess I just needed to vent a bit.

that is a shame

i personally think if your that uphappy with them you should go elsewhere

the referral process in wales is crap and things can get lost along the way, it took me 25 months to get an appointment on the nhs and 7 weeks to even get a referrel

sorry forgot to add

why did you have to wait until you were top of the list? the list for what

if you are self funding you could have booked a private appointment and i assume your not entitled to nhs treatment as you have children

No we are NHS, my daughters have lived with their father (long story) for the last 6 years so we are entitled to NHS treatment.

I had another letter today outlining my complaint and their answers (blaming the other hosipital for the lost referal) but to be honest I am so happy to now be getting the treatment there is no point persuing it, its water under the bridge :)

Very impressed with IVF Wales :)

Am now beginning the 2 week wait, and just wanted to say to anyone starting with IVF Wales, you are in good hands!

All the staff are wonderfully sensitive and encouraging, always happy to answer calls with the smallest queries, and through my whole experience with IVF we have felt completely relaxed, confident, in control and well informed. I cant praise the staff there enough! They were just as exited as we were at egg collection and embryo transfer, and genuinely take great pleasure from their jobs.

With all the negative press recently about the state of the NHS etc, its an absolute joy to see this department working so well!

Unfortunately i cant comment on ivf wales as im only just starting with them, but i have to say that bristol didnt scan either and my friend who is at bath also has found the same. It does seem to be the case if you are going thru treatment with the nhs instead of privately.

IVF Wales to give 2 free rounds of IVF from next April

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/health-news/2009/11/18/good-news-for-couples-in-wales-with-two-free-ivf-cycles-next-april-91466-25195694/

Good news for some. Can anyone tell me if their age Critieria is still the same?

I have an appointment on Tuesday and I really need to press them to let me be included in these 2 rounds. I will be 40 in April and I am running out of time. What can I say/do to get this :( ?

advice for a newbie on clinics in wales...please x

Hello there again,

Im starting the journey of fertility treatment, but already confused with it all...

Ive got endometriosis, been ttc for a year, and have finally been referred to a NHS specialist, with a 4 month waiting list. To avoid the waiting list Ive gone privately and booked my appoint for monday. Its still in the private wing of my NHS local hospital in gynaecology dept. Im paying £120.

Ive had trans v scan, Hubbie has had a sperm analysis all ok

Does anyone know the answer to this....when I have treatment (which im guessing I will need blood tests and a hycosy next) will I get referred again to an IVF/fertility clinic where there will be another waiting list and ill have to pay privately again? In which case is it worth just going straight to an IVF clinic/fertility clinic ie LWC cardiff/swansea and paying their consultation fee instead of both? Many thanks for your help

Hi Everyone,
I'm on the waiting list in the IVF wales clinic UHW. Hubby has low morphology and i've got low egg reserve. Been trying 5 years no luck. Done first round Clomid, no joy there, starting 2nd round tomorrow. Just been told the waiting list for IUI is 12months and IVF is 18months!! feel devastated. I wanted to check is it true i can have one round of private IUI without affecting my position on the waiting list?

IVF Wales

Hi

I was just wondering if anyone else has had or is on the waiting list for egg donation through IVF Wales?

My husband and I have been on the waiting list for donation for 3 years and have moved nowhere... we're still 7th and it looks like it's going to take us a very long time to get anywhere.

I know i'm only just about to turn 25 and my husdband 31 but we've been trying this forover 6 years and are starting to wonder if this is ever going to happen for us.

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

I must add though the staff at cardiff are very helpful everytime i call and are always happy to talk.

IVF Wales, friendly and reliable

I'd just like to say that I've had my treatment at IVF Wales Cardiff and they were all friendly and reliable. All staff were caring and approachable and returned calls quickly if any queries arose. Nicky the embryologist was superb at her job and explained everything to us in detail. Rachel and Venetia were nurses who cared for us throughout the treatment and we knew immediately that we were in safe hands. All doctors have their patients best interest at heart and will endeavour to their best. All admin staff were more than happy to accomdate you and the cleaning staff were always happy and friendly which always made me feel more comfortable. I would definetly recommend IVF Wales and wouldn't hesitate going back if I needed to x

Hi,

I just thought I would post as I have been to both IVF Wales (full cycle and an FET) and also CRMW for Egg share - I was the donor. I thought both had lovely staff that looked after you and I only moved as IVF Wales can no longer take private patients and I do not get any nhs funding.

If I had to pick one it would definitely be CRMW, the staff, Amanda (consultant) Lyndon (embryologist) Deb (nurse) were so amazing. Unfortunately my tx didn't work but it did work for my recipient. I was really ill due to OHSS and they looked after me so well. Amanda even called me on Sunday from her home to check on me. Honestly - they really do care.

I did feel ready for my follow up appt after it happened but have now booked it in for 1st August. Round 4, poss FET - bring it on 8| :snigger: .
If you do have any questions about either place, give me a shout, I would be more than happy to help if I can.

Good luck to you all xxx

That is brilliant to hear such good news about ICF Wales. We have been referred for ICSI and are in the queue. Our consultation will be April.

I am still unclear how many cycles we are entitled to. is it one or two?

Hey Flares,

Good luck with your cycle, I hope that all your dreams come true. Your definitely in good hands there. My nurse at CRMW has just gone back to IVF Wales, here name is Debbie, if you get her she is fab.

I don't get entitled to any NHS funding so I could be wrong, but the last I heard you get 2 free goes if you live in Wales. Best to check that out though as I could be wrong.

Take care and good luck x
