Gonal F v Menopur

Can anyone give me their opinion on this - Paul (Entwhistle) advice would be much appreciated also :)

If treatment 1 was Menopur at 225 with good normal response and 10 eggs
treatment 2 was Gonal F at various (Day 1) 225 (Day 2) 225 (Day 3-6) 187.5 (Day 7&8) 150 (Day 9& 10) 112.50 with good normal response and 15 eggs

what would treatment 3 be if Gonal F? eg would it be sensible to put me on Gonal F 225 all the way through for 8 days?

Hi Leni,
only your consultant can answer you question. Menopur contains some LH as well as FSH while gonalF is only FSH, so it will depend on your baseline bloods of these 2 hormones I guess as well as your previous response to the drugs. Each month your hormones are different and a higher drug dose does not always mean a better response if that is not the one you need.
Best of luck

Thanks Maria, I'm just a bit miffed with consultant because he chose to put me on 225 and my ovaries went into overdrive.

Why did he not stick to a lower dose like I was on before. I am so cross that even though I was on Menopur (low dose good response try 1= 10 eggs) and Gonal F decreasing dose (try 2 - 15 eggs) that this guy thought that it would be great to stick me on 225 gonal f the whole way through to result in day 13 bloods to be 18000 and a cluster of little follies to appear between day 10 & 13. Surely this was a wrong decision based on my previous treatments I am so cross that a consultant can make a stupid decision such as this and we have to pay for it . I understand these things can happen but cannot understand why I was not put on the same dose of Gonal F as before when it worked so well X(

I have had both...
Menopur for IUI and gonal F for IVF.
I asked why i wasnt put on the menopur for IVF and was told it was because Menopur isnt expected to work as well as gonal F which is why (in my case) it was better to use only for iui as it produced less eggs. resulting in a lower chance of multiples. think I produced one or two eggs on Menopur which is what they were wanting. On gonal F I produced 33 and resulted in OHSS.
you would have to ask your own specialist as to why the decision of your treatments have been chosen for you. It will probably be down to egg quality and not quantity. They will know whats best for your line of treatment.
Good luck hun xx
