Testicular Ultrasound

If hormonal imbalance has been ruled out and there's no outward physical abnormality of the male genitalia but sperm count is low or abnormal - will a testicular ultrasound examination be suggested as a matter of course? - or is this only when obstruction / cancer / internal damage are suspected?

I was wondering whether it's worth requesting this check?

Has anyone on FZ had a scrotal ultrasound examination and remember what the Consultant's justification for it was?

HI Demon,

I am not an expert but my dh had a scrotal ultrasound as part of investigations into azoospermia.

From our experience this is normal protocol in these investigations, you mentioned abnormal or low sperm they may just want to check or rule out any kind of blockage like an internal cyst causing less sperm to get through perhaps?

Hope this helps.

Holly :)

Cheers Holly , That means I'll not be having this test - as not azoospermic - just have the joys of poor morphology and motility, no blockages, damage or physical abnormality as far as consultant can tell.
