Hi girls

We set off for our day three embryo transfer today and had almost arrived at our clinic (a two hour drive away), when the embryologist called to say that we had 3 x 8 cell embryos and 1 x 12 cell embryo. This is our fifth attempt for a sibling to our little boy and every other cycle has been a 2 day transfer (except DS who was a three day transfer). She feels that as the embryos are developing so well that we should try getting them to blasto stage in the hope it will give us a higher chance. We are completely putting our trust in her so really hoping we've done the right thing.

We transferred to good quality embryos last cycle and got a BFN to maybe this is the way to go, I really hope so.

Just thought I should post to say that we lost two out of our four embryos today. One stopped developing at 11 cells and one stopped at 16 cells. Thankfully the other two did go on to develop into blastos though, so I am now PUPO with two good blastos. I'm glad we took the gamble, as the embryologist said the two that went back today, are not necessarily the ones she would have chosen on day three. Fingers crossed this will do the trick and I can return to this thread to post that I got a BFP and then a healthy baby.

Hi there

Just wanted to give an update for the benefit of all future readers of this post, that our two blastos did the trick and we have been blessed with an amazing BFP on our fifth attempt for a sibling. The gamble certainly paid off for us even with just four embies. Wishing you all lots of luck. x

To blast or not to blast?!

I'm probably going to have EC on Wednesday, this is my 3rd cycle and for the first time the clinic are talking about going to blast. I know this will be dependent on no. of eggs collected and fertilized but I'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are on going to blast? I'm very unsure about it so any advice would be very welcome. Thank xx

Ellabella

As you can see from my posts above, we only had four eggs so it was quite a gamble for us. This was also to be our final attempt, so we really did have so much riding on it. Thankfully it paid off for us. I think you just have to wait and see what Wed brings and go with the advice of the clinic. Wishing you luck whatever your decision.

when do blastocysts start to implant

Just wondering knows when blastocysts start to implant. I've had a FET today with one blast (which thankfully survived the thaw!) and am wondering when things will start to happen. Thanks. Mx

Hello Everyone,
I'm just about to go through my first ICSI, nhs funded. I have very low AMH due to a problem with a family history of early menopause. I'm 34 and every female in my family has completed the menopause by 36. When i went for my scan, they discovered I'd only produced 2 eggs, because of my family history, they want to continue and are planning egg collection on Monday. I'm confused, my clinic is not good at giving information and they've not even explained blastocycte to me. Given my problem, do you think i should ask for it?
I feel so depressed with all this, time is against me and i so want this to work .

pinkgirl, if you only have 2 eggs I very much doubt they will go to blastocyst, most clinics will want at least 4 embryos and certainly with that number i would expect you to have an early transfer. There is a drop off rate of embryos of 50% between day 2 and day 5 which is blastocycst day.

I am pleased they are going ahead with EC as some clinics will cnancel with only 2 follicles. Remember it only takes one, good luck x

Hi Pinkgirl

I agree completley with Brave Girl. TBH I would not even take the risk. Unless I had 6 minimum I would not risk going to blast. (This is based on my own eggs only though as I will not risk having another failed ET)

My SIL has just got pregnant first ICSI with 2 x 3 day transfer.

It is apersonal choice but mine would be getting them embies back with mum asap.

I agree taxihome, both my BFPs have been on day 2 transfers. I had a blasto cycle and it did not work though I know it does for many ladies. I dont think you will have a choice though pinkgirl.

Early blastocyst

Hi was just wondering if anyone who has had a blastocyst transfer on day 5 was told that their blasto was an 'early blastocyst' when transferred and still got their BFP?

Some success stories would be great please!

Thanks. x

I am having my 3rd fresh cycle of IVF but at a new clinic, Ninewells in Dundee and they have such a fab reputation for success rates etc, they have been fabulous with us and we are pleased that we got 16 eggs, of which 11 fertilised, 10 were viable embies on day 2. out of the 10 some are of good quality and some are not so good. I am really concerned that we end up with no blasts for transfer. we are booked on for transfer tomorro (Thursday) but hoping to go to saturday for day 5 balst transfer. will the embriologists know in advance if its wrth taking to day 5 and even if they are looking good or at least a few of them then can we still lose them all. sorry long winded question.

Hello Everyone

I am currently day 8 stimms and am thinking more and more about ET, we have 16 follies that are looking good and a few slower ones, i'm probabley jumping ahead here, but would love to hear peoples views on blasto versus 3 day transfer, success stories for both would be great

Blastocyst!!!?!? Help!!

Hey everyone! I am currently day 3 after EC. They retrieved 10 eggs, 5 of which fertilised. I got my progress report from the clinic and they just said that all 5 were ongoing. As this is my first IVF cycle, I'm really confused! Does this mean that we are heading towards a day 5 ET? Is there risk to the embryos? I have to call the clinic again in the morning for an update... Is there a chance that none will make it? Feel I need more info from the clinic as I have no idea of grade or anything else I have read about on here?!? Really trying to be calm and rational!! ?o(

Hi Kate, if you were day 3 yesterday and they are taking your embies on then yes they are taking them to blast. There is a chance some may not make it to day 5 but as you have 5 there is a good chance they will. Which clinic are you with? You may want to have a word on the clinic section with others at the same place as you as they will be able to give you a better idea of your clinics policies.

Good Luck x

Kate, just thought I'd pop in with some moral support as I have just gone through what you are. I was set for a Day 3 transfer on Sunday but when I called to confirm four of my embies were going strong and they advised me to wait until day 5 today. I was terrified for the whole 2 days that I would have nothing to transfer but I had two blasts transferred earlier today (one early blast, one cavitating blast) - phew! The other embies were still alive but hadn't developed as much so I don't expect we'll get any frosties.

Anyway, wanted to wish you well for tomorrow and hope you're PUPO with some lovely blasts soon! :goodluck:
