HELP! Can you get IUI on the NHS?

Hi everyone!

I need some help!

We have been TTC for almost 2 years with erectile dysfunction, we've had tests (blood tests for me & sperm test for DH) all came back OK. We have been to see a fertility specialist on the NHS a few weeks ago who wanted us to leave it another 6 months (who also told us we wouldn't be able to get IVF on NHS as we live in Surrey you have to be 39 to qualify on NHS). She also wanted us to get counselling for the erectile dysfunction but we cant get this on the NHS and its £55 a go which we can't afford.

We know that waiting another 6 months is not going to help, does anyone know if we can get artifical insemination on the NHS? we've done some research and think this would really help us as we are unable to have sex at the right time most months. I've been to my G.P who knew nothing about this and said she'd get back to me... this was weeks ago so I'm not holding any hopes on her.

I've looked on the internet but there's no information or who to contact. I've tried calling the fertility specialist at the hospital but I can never get to talk to her.

Any help would be much appriciated, we are at an absolute loss as to what to do next.

Hi Jo

Sorry to read that your having a bit of a tough time trying to conceive. I'm currently having IUI although I have to pay as the NHS in Hampshire don't offer any funding for it and they only fund one cycle of IVF per couple.

It might be worth chasing up your GP to see what they've managed to find out on your behalf as you would have to be referred for treatment by your GP anyway. Every PCT is different so it might be possible for you to have funded IUI. I managed to find the Southampton PCT fertility treatment policy by doing a search online so it might be worth you giving that a go to. The policy details what treatments are funded by your PCT and who is eligible for them.

Many PCTs have stopped funding IUI so it will depend on your local policy.
