Can IVIg during a MC help?

Hi ladies,

Sorry if I sound a little brusque but my HCG levels are not all they could be with 5100 on Friday and 5900 today - the doctor has called me in tomorrow for a scan and possible IVIg.

My question is: Does IVIg DURING a MC help prevent it? or is is it something they use as a prevention early on?

Hi Sam. They are going to scan you first and the decide. If the mc has started then it won't help but your hcgs are still going up so there is still hope.

well - still feel rather strange. I went in and the doctor scanned me and said he couldn't tell if I was miscarrying or not, but he saw a small sac - but not much else and then i was taken for Intralipids...

All in all, nothing has put my mind at ease and I still have no idea what the outcome will be. It feels like an out of body experience!

i have another scan in a weeks time, but I had heard before from someone else that their ultrasound machine isn't very good.

Will keep everyone posted!

The scanners at the ARGC are ancient. It's amazing the difference you get from scans from an NHS EPU, or from other clinics.
Did you have your betas checked again today?
It is a good sign that they gave you intralipids, they obviously think there is hope. And we're certainly all keeping everything crossed for you,

Hi Blue,

Can my GP help in getting a scan from an NHS hospital? I'm still unfamiliar with the way things work in the UK.

But surely they could have seen more than a sac at 6 weeks?? actually today I'm 6w1d and he kept saying.., i see something, but not sure..hmm..could be a heartbeat...not sure. i mean WHY even mention a heartbeat when you can't even tell me if i'm miscarrying??

With LO we were lucky enough to see a heartbeat at 6w 1 day but my clinic won't even scan that early now cause of the high risk of not seeing a HB.

Sending you loads of babydust hun

Can my GP help in getting a scan from an NHS hospital?

Yes, if you go to your GP and explain what has been happening, you should get referred to your local Early Pregnancy Unit (EPU).
Depending on where you live, you don't always need a GP referral, you can call them directly for advise and they tell you on the phone what you should do. Try searching Google for an EPU in your area, and see what you find.
