You might want to get hold of a few books.. I found them invaluable.. have a look at adoption UK website as well.. that's a mine of information..
I found Maria's Diary and Parenting the Child that Hurts (can't remember the authors off the top of my head) great books!

I know this is forward planning and possibly silly thinking too far ahead when our baby hasn't arrived yet but I'd like to adopt and I didn't even consider that you'd have to wait until your child was a certain age. I was hoping to start the process 6 months-1 year after baby born. Will they let you apply and get approved earlier but not match you to a child until the baby is the right age? We were thinking of adopting 1 or 2 older kids ( aged 3-5) so if we wait til our baby is 2 before applying our baby will be between 3-5 too when we hopefully manage to adopt, I'd have preferred to have done it when our baby was younger.
