Clomid & Follicle Tracking Question

Hi All

I wonder if you can help.....I am on my 9th cycle of Clomid @ 50mg, my progesterone levels have been very up & down to date, this month I had Follicle tracking done, day 10, day 14, day 16 & day 18, ovulated day 17/18, follicle measured 20mm. Specialists arranged for me to go back exactly a week later to have Progesterone levels checked, on day 24, the reading came back as 2.5, then within 5 minutes of getting that phone call AF arrived.......Has anyone else encountered anything similar? how can we have watched the follicle grow & be released then the reading come back suggesting no ovulation?! I am beginning to despair! ;(

Hiya,

Please don't get too down honey.

It could be that you ov'd earlier, especially as AF arrived. The pregesterone test needs doing 7 days before AF arrives.

It is also possible for the follies to grow and not to release. My cons explained that the ovaries have to 'argue' between themselves and 'decide' between them which one will pop the egg out. If they can't decide the follies shrink back in and none of them ovulate. He said that they don't know why or how they actually decide which is going to release the egg.

It could be that you need a higher dose to help the egg come out?

Have they arranged for you to have another appointment? What has your cons said?

:hugs:

Hi Flic

Thanks for the reply, well the con said that he was certain I had ov'd day 17-18, 7 days before AF was the day I alledgedly ov'd....bloomin' bodies!!

They are keeping me on 50mg again for this month then want to up to 100mg and do another round of follicle tracking next cycle. Your explanation is great, makes a lot of sense.

Another appointment after this cycle, guess we will see what he has to say then! Thanks again xx

Tell me about it. I never ov'd on clomid and then I got OHSS and STILL didn't ov!!! Why can't it be all nice and easy!!

How come you are on clomid?

I'm impressed that they are tracking you and doing progesterone tests. That is brilliant. A lot of people have to fight for scans and bloods. Your cons sounds pretty clued up!

I'm pleased that I made sense though!

Its also good that your cons was certain you ov'd. Like I said the progesterone needs to be done 7 days before AF so it could be that you did ov and just missed the progesterone peak. I think it only peaks for something like a day or 2 so its really difficult to get it right!!

Bodies eh?! Who needs em!!!

:hugs:

I know where you are coming from with that one - it's all so complicated isn't it....what's your story? are you still on Clomid?

Secondary amenorrhea, so they started me on Provera last year & then clomid once the Provera had forced AF. Started investigations 2.5 years ago & gradually I've watched 4 of my close girlfriends fall pregnant without any hassles & I am still waiting!! sure I will get there eventually though.

We went privately because the NHS were taking so long to do anything so the cons are more than willing to do extra procedures if they can! sad really, shouldn't be like that should it. But they are good & I feel l ike I am in safe hands.

Oh I know, wretched things. Bad enough we are never happy with the shape of them, when they don't behave themselves, well, double whammy!!
