blood in SA

My DH has jst been for his SA test at the ERI he was to have this to try and freeze a sample ready for us starting treatment next week, unfortunatly this sample was full of blood, not just pink but blood sorry TMI .
this has happened several times before and he did go for tests a few years ago and because it had stopped they werent concerned, it has happened since not as bad but sort of yearly so he now has to be sent bacck to the hospital for tests to see whats happened and why.

Does anyone know why there was blood and what tests he might have to get.
Obv very worried about DH and upset that this has stopped treatment again even tho next week there will be no blood
thanks for your time

RE: blood in SA

Hi to you both.

I am sorry about your news. finding blood is semen is not uncommon, and does often come and go. This may be due to a seminal or prostratic infection which causes irritation of the tissues and makes them prone to bleeding. It's rather like having nose bleeds when you have a heavy cold, or bleeding gums during teeth brushing.

Alternatively he may have a polyp which irritating the seminal tract and causing it to bleed.

He needs to have some cultures done and probably an ultrasound scan. Perhaps also a vasography, a technique like a hysterosalpingogram for female tubes, that passes dye down his tubes. It's just a shame that it is delaying your having your treatment.

Good luck with this.

thanks for taking the time to reply paul, i got so worried this time as the Dr at the clinic i thought seemed concerned, in the past we havent worried because the Dr at the hospital wasnt worried. Hopefully now we will know whats causing it.
