mw suggesting topping up with formula

Hi BooBoo Sorry you are being made to worry like this - I think you are absolutely right to stick to your guns knowing that she is happy, healthy and alert. If they press you further to top up with expressed milk perhaps you could ask them why they consider it preferable to sterilise a pump & teats & bottles, faff around expressing & then try and get your daughter to take a bottle as opposed to simply offering her your boob again? I've never understood that one! It sounds as though you are doing...

applying for pre school

Yes my understanding is that you apply directly for pre-schools and then through your LA (with your choice of schools) much nearer the time for primary schools. Each preschool round by me has different rules on when you can apply, whether you have to pay a deposit, whether you can start at 2/2.6/ 3 etc etc so like Polly says, it would be worth checking out the website of the one you are interested in and taking it from there.

After any BLW advice please...?

Hi BGE Baby bubble was still being b/f at this stage but I purposefully cut down her daytime feeds - just replacing them with snacks. If I remember correctly I started by cutting out the mid morning feed and replacing it with a snack. Perhaps you could just do this rather than trying to dilute his milk which might be a bit confusing for him. Or perhaps a good snack, such as a banana with a sippy cup of milk might be a good transition - that way if he still really needs the milk it will be there ...

Clomid for poor ovulaiton / luteal phase defect

Hi If I remember correctly I think that Compley, one of our mods, took clomid because of a luteal phase defect, and she conceived her daughter on it. So there's one success story for you Good luck x

New job and early pregnancy

I really think you will be eligible for it. I'm sure the HR dept of your new employer will help you out with any questions as well. I applied - and received - MA during my first pregnancy and the form was really easy to fill in. x

New job and early pregnancy

Hi Jilly bean My understanding is that if you are not entitled to SMP through your new employer you are likely to be entitled to claim Maternity Allowance which pays a standard weekly rate of £128.73 or 90 per cent of your average gross weekly earnings (before tax), whichever is the smaller and is paid for a maximum period of 39 weeks. This link will help Maternity Allowance irectgov - Money, tax and benefits (not an FZ endorsed link). In the circumstances you've described I think that it's high...

Braxton Hicks

HI AG Like Kirstin says, so long as the pain is not unbearable then I very much doubt that it is more than BH, which are probably better described as being uncomfortable rather than painful. If they are BH they will also be accompanied by a definite hardening of the wall of the uterus, and you should be able to feel this quite easily. They shouldn't really last for more than about 30 seconds but they can happen quite frequently, like every 15 mins or so. Some people do seem to experience them mo...

TTC Naturally for baby number 2 (First baby born after IVF/ICSI)

Hi and welcome to FZ At the end of the day only you and your husband can decide how long you are prepared to try naturally before looking at assisted conception again. It's worth bearing in mind that even if your reproductive health is excellent, the average chance a woman has of getting pregnant each time she has intercourse is about 20%. However, as you have said, timing sex around ovulation is good way to improve your chances of getting pregnant. When i conceived this time around we were very...

Birthday cakes

It's not too hard if you use ready made roll out icing to cover the cake and then cover any cracks/mistakes with the dots. I think I used different sized drink bottle tops as cutters for the dots. The hardest bit was fitting the icing around the funny edges of the cake. I think an easier option would be to cover it in butter icing which doesn't have to be smooth and then cover it with the dots, or even with smarties. If you have a local cake shop they should have '1' tins for hire and also the r...

END OF FIRST CLOMID CYCLE .... No Ovulation :-( help!!!

Hi Shelly I'm so sorry that you haven't had any replies to your thread before now Firstly, wow, well done on losing 7 stone, That's amazing. I've been on the site for many years now and have seen lots of ladies who haven't ovulated on their first dose of clomid but have gone on to ovulate on a higher dose. I know it's hugely disappointing when it doesn't work for you first time but it does help to see the first few rounds as a 'trial' to check that the dose is right for you. It's very important ...

2 year HV assessment

Hi Jen You are NOT a bad mum - please stop thinking that way right now, ok Lydia sounds like a bright and delightful child. You are not doing anything wrong at all. What parent doesn't want to talk and engage and explain things to their 2 year old (especially when they ask 'why' all the time!)? And, when she does go into the pre-school room at nursery any carer worth their salt will continue to encourage and develop her. If she is bored then, yes, she might express that in a tantrum or two. But ...
